TE Building Question
-
Is there a way when building a TE to hide enemy ground units from the 2D map when you actually jump into the mission?? For instance….if you make a primary objective of attacking a depot, and want to have an air defense unit guarding it. But…you don’t want to air defense unit to show up on the 2D map due to lack of intel (kind of how enemy units are not seen until discovered/spotted in a camp).
-
This is just a guess, but have you tried advancing the clock and saving the mssion? Say your TE starts at 0800, if you save it at 0900 the “fog of war” might hide any ground unit intel that was available on an hour earlier.
In my “Battle for Karpathos” TE for the Aegean theater only one ground unit (out of many) is visible when the TE starts, so this might be worth a try.
Cheers, Uwe

Use mobile SAMs such as SA-6… they are usually hidden. And/or tell that SA-6 to move so it won’t be in the same place when they get to the target area.

Story time :
This is actually a tactic employed by serbian SA-6 battery. Although not scoring any hits on op. Allied Force, they didnt sustain any losses to coalition air power due to this and proper EMCON tactics*.There might also be a bug where the host dont see enemy ground unit (fog of war stuff), but the clients do. Be careful to that, and if necessary, ask your teammates to deactivate Air defense bataillon in the map filters, just providing them with pre-planned STP on the mission DTC .ini file where SAM you want them to see are.

There used to be a way of doing it in Allied Force. This entailed positioning your units, saving the TE and then getting them to move. Wind the clock on, as Hoover says, and then saving the TE again. However I believe that this is not possible in BMS. Certainly doesn’t work in my TE’s until the clock is running for a while.
I heard it may be fixed in 4.33?! Who knows.

Hmm! Back in the day´s when i did a lot of TE´s i used as said mobile units sa-6-11-13 and move them with chinooks or c-130 from distens airbases! that way the pick-up time use to be when the flight was in 3D:D I remember that it was a little bit of adjust timing and choice of airbase to get it right… but the result was always staggering haha…:bowd::bowd:

Not looking to EMCON tactics. Just looking to pucker up a few rear ends for something completely unexpected…lol

I do not remember … but I am not sure it is a 4.32 bug Cruz and maybe only in “our version”. (?)
…
BTW … this could be an idea for the future. Not necessarily implementing it in Falcon’s UI but maybe having an option in Mission Commender to “hide” the units we want when creating a TE … to keep somewhere in minds.

Fog of war for host but not for client is also a bug in 4.32, AFAIK. Mission Commander already has a “Spot/Unspot” function, but I have had no luck with that (in MP) so far, probably due to the mentioned bug.
-
I use the ‘spot’ and ‘unspot’ function in MC to achieve that invisibility on the map. Try if that works? Open the TE in MC, go to ‘units’ tab, right click the unit and ‘open’. Then in the new window, look to the far right there is an ‘information’ box with it’s long/lat, and ‘advanced options’ button. And also a ‘spot’ and ‘unspot’ button. That’s the one.
-
I’ve gotten it to work somewhat by doing what Demo suggested, Mobile SAM’s make for a ton of surprises. I have also used spot and unspot with mixed results.

Rthorflech,
just my two cent, of course: I like it, that’s the way to do things.
Interesting matter, this yours, thanks for having pointed it out and sharing the results. With best regards,

You can add invisible sam’s heres the way:
Add a sam to a desired location (I.e to an airport that you planing to strike) then drag this sam or shorad far away from that location, double click on it and be sure that the route is on that location and status is active air defence of that location, after that add a fly with c-130 and airmombile the air defence. Have in mind in order this battalion to be invisible to other players c-130 has to lift it before anyone enter in mission map (if mission starts at 04:00 plan the lift steer point 1-2 mins earlier and the drop before strike tot)
Ill be happy to answer any questionsCheck this out for Korea Theater

I don’t have try the airlift, but with three ways (unspot, moving Sam’s and mission time) hide the Sam’s from 2d map only in single player, if you open the mission online all players see the Sam’s but server don’t.
