Norway Theater - Lets do it!
-
RIght ok, so i dont translate all the files this was just me trying to mimic everything uri_ba did for Israel theater with a switch to have sound turned to hebrew. I thought it would be neat to have a switch to the languages of Nordic too.
If you can do this with a switch, then go for it.
As I read your post, I thought that will be permanently to Nordic languages without an option to we change them into english also. You didn’t mention for a switch to that post ;).

The tlk file is nothing but a bunch of fragment words that are pieced together . . . what is being done for Nordic is the same that was done for ITO2 in FreeFalcon - the only thing being replaced are the tower/base names - you really don’t need to speak Swedish, Danish, or Finnish to understand that. The name is the name. But, it would be nice to have a native speaker - so we don’t butcher the proper pronunciation of the names. The remainder of the voice frags will remain unchanged. The primary reason for the change-out is quite simply, the play of Korean names for airbase call-outs reduces the immersion in theater play. So, lets change them out. The other thing is that the airbases will be assigned Korea names based on the id numbers - so that has to be identified, once that is done - the id number and the callout for the name can easily be replace with the appropriate Nordic airbase name -the only glitch will be if we have more airbase names in Nordic than in Korea - but let Starrats get to that point and we can see what if anything needs to be done.

Edit ok, I am still working it out,
EDIT; Sorry for the 30 people that downloaded f4talk this it was not the fix i thought it was. I am having failures now.

For info, the Nordic countries communicate largely in English over radio. RNoAF Viper pilots also use English between themselves on coms and with AF ground radar stations etc, I guess in order to minimise/eliminate linguistic problems when operating with NATO. I’m not sure what the Swedes do, considering they build their own planes and remain outside NATO, but the VFR-guys there use Swedish on the frequencies (with their own phonetic alphabet, even), so who knows. I’d think Finish pilots are more prone to use English, but I can’t be sure.
-
English is the main language in all Scandinavian countries with regard to comms between ATC and pilot(s).

Except, as mentioned, Swedish VFR pilots who stick to their own language and phonetics (and ATC replies in kind), however irrelevant for military traffic.
-
Civilian PPL pilots in Denmark also communicate in danish. But when we talk about military communication everything is done in English - and here we only talk about military aircraft when we talk BMS related stuff.

thanks for the input nil and eseem. we wont be doing any translations. in fact ranger never asked me to. i infered a different meanning into one of his emails. sorry for the mix up. like ranger said we will just be naming airfields properly. cheers

IMHO you shouldn’t regret for having put a not too bad idea to everyone’s attention, starrats.
All of us are here also to discuss and confront our own point of views before making decisions… once someone told me this is the common ground of a real team.
Keep on this way, my friend: this is the only good one, I believe.
With best regards,

Update:
I just wanted to give everybody an update on our progress. Since Ranger and Starrats have joined me, progress on Norway has rapidly accelerated. The theatre’s release will no longer be a working Alpha bordering on Beta as I imagined when I first began working on it last year. Our latest internal version is much more complete than I ever imagined it could be. At the moment I could call it 95% complete toward a 1.0 release. The DB along with its new planes will give the the campaigns of the feel of a new theatre. The attrition type, force-on-force unit depletion campaign has been shelved. We have made really good progress towards two winnable, fast pacedm land grab campaigns with their unique campaign videos. In another thread, I mentioned that Kuriles was much further ahead of Norway when it was released. I can assure all of you folks, Norway has rapidly caught up.
Finally, I want to make a mention of this theatre and BMS modding in general. When I first built Korea 2012 in January of 2012, I was a very green in modding. Over the last couple of years, I worked with the Guam Development Team, Kurile Island Dev Group and now The Nordic Theatre Team. I want to say that all of the folks I have been involved with have been the most professional group of individuals I have worked with. We never have had any squabbling over credit, EULA or workload. Everybody gives their 100% because of their passion for Falcon 4.0. In the process, my learning and sense of accomplishment has been far greater than I could have ever imagined when Korea 2012 first came out exactly four years ago.

Thanks for a great news! You love and passion for Falcon 4.0 is greatly appreciated.

I just got Rangers new DB and must admit it is very, very Awseome! It will be developed even further (by Ranger only) after we try out what we have so far. I will try to get some screen shots before 1.0 released.

I just wanted to show a little of the major progress we have made in the 12 months. This is a picture of Save0.cam’s victory.
In this scenario, I simply let the BMS run at 32X in order to see how the ground units would react. As you can see, they were able to capture the Primary Objective on their own without player input. There is still more work to be done concerning finishing up the ground units, but as you can see the land grab is successful so far.
That brings me to my next point. I am really lucky to have a coworker at my place of employment who is a former Russian Army Helicopter Mechanic. He is very familiar with Russian Army tactics in the late 1990s. Using his knowledge, I am making the Russian Forces in Save0 act and behave like those of his experience. In Norway, unlike Korea, ground forces will move at a much faster speed by using tanks and mobile rocket artillery. Infantry units will reinforce captured units, but all the forward unit engagements will be done by armored units. This will make Close Air Support mission much more important in Norway. Air units will be needed in order to slow the onslaught of the Russian ‘Blitzkrieg’ style attack before the tanks advance too far into Sweden.

Nice.
Don’t forget to include some of the intrinsic factors that plague Russian/Soviet forces too - they look good on paper until you look at the details - some of that may not be suited for Falcon wargame simulation; morale, training, poor logistics, low reliability of equipment. A force looks pretty impressive until you go to war - then the reality hits in that less than half your vehicles work, your supply system doesn’t actually have enough fuel and ammo to fight more than 5 days of battle before things start shutting down, not to mention the other side is doing their best to interdict and compound the logistics problems.
I am really looking forward seeing the latest iteration of the campaign to see how you have it playing out.
Also, I think Starrats and I will need to postpone work on the airbase callouts - the tools don’t work on the current falcon.tlk file and bin files due to some code changes and formatting. More to follow.

Tony, some of the items you mention have been sort of incorporated by the type/make up of the Russian Ground units. Also, I took pains to make a big ‘firewall’ of units at the FLOT. Further behind, there are less effective (motor infantry) protecting key cities. NATO, on the other hand has a second, FLOT in Sweden that rapidly deploys to the front after Day 2’s fighting. This is group, combined with the main force then attack and conquer the Russia’s main force and dug in defenders. Of course, NATO control of the sky is key during the campaign’s movement.

Tacref is done mostly… some sub directories are not there but each unit has the main info linked to correct new plane. more Good news on Tonys db development keeps brightening my day. the db is still rough draft and being worked on. there are several better looking models than these, but the Swedish gripen and Norwegian f35 are two jets I am happy to have in the db.These screenshots reveal unfinished terrain tiles, most apparent is alpha channels not added to coast line. this just hasnt been done yet.

Here is some usefull info about cold war scenario’s:
