VDXR With bms
-
Is it possible to use purely VDXR for streaming bms to the headset in bms, allowing me to get rid of steamvr completely?
I’ve been doing this with dcs since it was first available in beta and for me it’s much more user friendly than steamvr. The other option I’m considering if not possible is alvr but would be great if VDXR is workable. -
Hi,
BMS doesn’t support OpenXR yet, but it’ll come with the upcoming (Hopefully not too long now) 4.37 U4.
I confirm that VDXR does work great with BMS, so it’s just a wait until U4 is released to the public.Cheers!

Being able to use the OpenXR Toolkit in BMS is going to be a gamechanger.

How so? I am unfamiliar with OpenXR; can you elaborate on what goodness it can bring to BMS? Can al, headsets use it or is it somehow limited on which headsets will/won’t cooperate with OpenXR?
Thanks,

@Tomcattwo OpenXR Toolkit is not the same as OpenXR. OpenXR is an API, same as SteamVR is an API (and confusingly an application too).
OpenXR Toolkit is an application that brings the ability to tweak a lot of VR settings, including some performance things, like adding FSR/NIS/CAS without the game itself having to support it.

@rubbra
Thanks for the reply. I’ll have to look it up using Dr. Google (actually, Duck Duck Go).

Supporting OpenXR will bring a multitude of benefits to BMS. Firstly, there is no need to use Steam and the VRAM overhead it imposes.
Secondly, hand tracking will be possible with headsets such as the Oculus Pro and 3 or by using a LeapMotion controller (great if you have a G2). This will allow the interaction with the cockpit using hands instead of a mouse.
Other useful apps are also available such as OpenKneeboard.
