New NVIDIA drivers

sorry but what is afr2?

my bad was easy enough to find thx

You could try instead of using the older drivers, using the config tools.
Kill heat plumes from engines
remove shadows from the cockpit,
Try the different water effects in the theatres install.
Reflections and cockpit scratches again cause a small loss of FPS but every little helps.these are two main FPS killers, yes the effects are nice and they look well nice. But are they absolutely vital. Lightray manipulation has been a major issue in games since the released of Ubisoft Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, those who bought the game will know what I mean. Use the config tool to bring down the workload of your graphics card or onboard graphics, Pity the option to turn off trees isnt still in the config editor that used to be a massive FPS killer some years back.
This is advice, your choice to take or leave it.

Thanks, a tweak to try! Cheers

Updated to 340.52 WHQL, running smooth and no stutters! Awaiting an EFI flashed GTX-980 so I can sell both my 8800GT (MAC) and GTX-670-FTW-4GB (PC) and free one PCIe slot in my Mac Pro.
Then I can upgrade to 344.80 (RELEASED YESTERDAY!!!) or higher!
Cheers

Still anticipating the Mac Edtion of the GTX-980 or that a flash.ROM comes available, this is my best interim solution.
Downgraded my NVidia 8800GT Mac Edition to the original ATI 2600 HD XT Mac Edition (I always keep a spare just in case, et voila good choice after-all ). Because the 8800GT could not be updated anymore from the 340.52 driver, and the GTX-670 is the only NVidia GPU in my Mac Pro, I updated to the latest 344.75 WHQL. Running BMS with full specs @40-60fps.
1. GTX-670-FTW-4GB (PC) -> 24" HP + 22" Iiyama touchscreen for MFD extraction
NVidia 344.75 WHQL
2. ATI 2600 HD XT (MAC) -> 19" Syncmaster for Mac OSX bootscreens & performance monitor while e.g. gaming
Display Driver ver. 8.97.100.7
OpenCL Driver 10.0.937.2
Catalyst Control Center 2012.1116.1514.27190Now I have THE GREEN & RED team onboard!
Will they keep the peace and don’t start any (driver) conflict?
Or, how about this as my new desktop background picture?
Anyhow, very happy with my ‘new’ setup, specially the fps and very smooth performance with the new 344.75 WHQL on the GTX-670.
Cheers!

Hi guys. Was going to start an new thread…but wasnt sure.
Will try this instead.I note Maverick that you are getting a 980.
Well I just got one too and… micro stutters with cockpit extraction.
Turn it off and it works a treat.
No matter what settings I use - I get 60 fps on ground or in air.
Turn on the cockpit extractions and bam - everything micro stutters.
Ive tried the shader shadows thing - v-sync on and off - cant get rid of them.
It is possible I have tried many combinations and have missed a vital check box somewhere - but scoring through google and here- I can’t seem to solve it.
Has anyone a solid solution?
I suspect driver issue with the card - so for now - I am waiting for a fix/updated driver.
I note older nvidia cards have had this issue and have seen how some driver versions (older or newer in some peoples cases) have solved it.
Have you tried it yet Maverick?
Im sort of hoping its a face palm moment and I realise i’ve missed something obvious as you can go into these things a little deep sometimes…
…heres hoping.

As I’m a bootcamper on a Mac Pro I need a EVGA Mac Edition / EFI flashed version, otherwise I’ll need 2 PCIe slots (like current setup) again and I have better use for one. So I haven’t tried it yet!

…
Quick question as i’m considering a 980 as well. Is the monitor (are the monitors?) you’re extracting to being driven by the 980 as well? I was going to get a separate, smaller card specifically to run the 2 TFTs that i used for my MFDs and am hoping that this will alleviate the issue. Thanks!

I’ve read the 980’s have a lot of coil whine. Anyone that has one notice it?

I bought the 980GTX 2 months ago. I have not noticed any coil whine at all. I have played COD Advanced Warfare and Farcry 4 with this card on a 4k resolution and not hard any coil whine, just my 2 cents.

What is coil whine?

That is good to hear. I am considering 2x980’s too. What brand did you get?

Is that “whine” produced by fan-speed or elec-statics of some sort. The latter would be really poor indication.

It’s the coils themselves starting to vibrate and resonate as the electric current flows through them, and the sound varies when the characteristics of the current changes. In graphic cards, the sound usually changes with the frame rate (and maybe the stress a game forces on the hardware), with the tone getting higher as the framerate gets higher. Sometimes V-Syncs helps with that, but the coils can often be still audible within the standard ~60fps range. In certain circumstances (usually a game cinematic like intro, 2D main menu etc) the frames often get to hundreds per seconds, making the coils whine. In such cases, turning V-Sync ON through drivers may help, as the game’s own sync may be functional during actual 3D only.
My GTX 760 whines a bit in 2D menus with hundreds of frames, but in most demanding games, when the framerate is capped, I can only hear a bit of lower-toned buzzing. I mostly play with headphones so I can’t even hear that. As far as I know, coil whine is not essentially a problem with the card, but it’s obviously desirable to not hear any strange sound while playing.

At harlequin. Sorry for the delay. I have 2 monitors one projector. Projector is hdmi to card 1080p the second monitor is dvi to card 1080p the 3rd monitor is plugged to motherboard. Forget what res 1440 x 9 something… vga.
With the previous card (ati 6970) all was fine.
With the 980 there’s micro stutters with the cockpit extraction.
The vga monitor is what I use for the cockpit extraction and that sits clamped to desk in front of me… at an angle with the usb cougar mfds.
I didn’t have to mess with windows with the new card. All displays firing up as before.
The dvi monitor is for team speak viewing track ir… steam etc etc…
