Massive FPS Loss
-
I have some weird issue I cant figure out with fps.
My frames drop from mid 30’s down to 5-8 while just flying around. Just installed 4.33 yesterday so I haven’t tried to optimize setting yet, but I should be getting better frames than that.Only other game currently installed is Arma 3 and I run that on ultra high and maintain 40-45 fps.
Forgot specs
Win 10
GTX 750 TI
8GB ram
1TB HD -
This is most unlikely true… One key thing to remember is not all drivers are created equal. You have just added a ton more overhead and you got an improvement as well. Pretty fair trade IMO. It’s a great card and it should last you for some time.

the worst fps loss is FLIR and TGP.
playing the TFR training mission with no FLIR, I get 47fps.
playing the TFR training mission with FLIR on HUD, I get 24fps.
FPS loss: 47-24 = 23playing the LGB training mission with TGP off, I get 60fps.
playing the LGB training mission with TGP on, I get 40fps.
FPS loss: 60-40 = 20and by changing the vga card from gtx560 to gtx970,
this fps loss stays more or less the same.so this must be more affected by cpu?
is this correct? -
Most probably.
I just changed my rig, going from an AMD A10-7700K to an Intel I5-4460 (same amount of RAM, same GPU, i.e. an R9-270X), and I got a lot more FPS : instead of 15/20 fps with TGP on I now get 40/45, and the game is now playable and enjoyable.

I thought that the most influential factor for fps is the clock speed
since bms does not take advantage the multi cores fully.
So this is not true anymore for 4.33?Mine is i3@4,4ghz.
your i5-4460 is 3,2ghz ? -
From all of the to date posts about 4.33 performance on various rigs and hardware configurations - is it not a factor of having high end Intel (as opposed to AMD) processor to be most influential? Of course good GPX is also important, but not as much as the GPU. I know it is perhaps to big generalization, but still it looks to me, that this might be the case?

your i5-4460 is 3,2ghz ?Well, my AMD was theoretically a bit faster but, as Polak just wrote, it seems there’s a problem with some AMD processors. For some unclear reason, they’re not good at running Falcon, in spite of a decent clock speed.

Because falcon is single core program, AMD single core performance sucks.
And AMD 4,0ghz is slower that 4,0ghz Intel because AMDs old technology. Just Google some reviews
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-4170-core-i3-3220-benchmarks,3314-7.html dual core Intel is even better or equal
Clock vs clock Intel makes more work

If bms4.33 is still a single core program,
why is my i3-530 o/c to 4,4Ghz with gtx970 slower than I5-4460 with R9-270X?It does not make sense.

Gtx 970 has problem with BMS
And I5 is faster than I3 , maybe because BMS is multi threaded program (not same as multicore) and I5 is better tech than I3.
But AMD sucks anyway for simming where pure calculation performance is what maters

Thanks for the reply haukka81.
I didn’t know that gtx970 has problem with BMS,
so that explain why gtx970 performance is so terrible with BMS.Do you know if there is any workaround for it?
And for BMS, with the same clock speed, is i7 better than i5?

I7 may not be better , least not for it high cost so for games I5 is best price / performance CPU
Im not sure about 970 but lots of fps problems here in forums in 970 users so it Looks like there is some problem. I have 660gtx and BMS runs really fine

@APOLLO:
I also experienced dramatic loss of FPS with 4 33 due to low performance of my laptop.
Even with various setup graphics tuning, the best results i could make, were still not enough for proper flying experience…SOLUTION 1
One way to improve poor performance on your rig is to go to Control Panel / System / System Settings for Advanced users / Performance (visual effects, cpu timetable memory use/ visual memory) and select Settings / For Advanced users
In Visual memory settings press “Change”. In Size Adjustment you have 2 boxes with “original size MB” and “Max size MB”
You have now the capability of expand the usage of free HD space in favor of you RAM in order to speed up performance!
Depending of your free HD space you select a new number and press Select / OK.
I saw great improvment in my laptop and FPS impact on BMS.
Again a great “THANK YOU” at BMS Team for all the efforts to improve this great sim!!
“+1” on this this. Turning down tress and clouds didn’t do much, so I tried the above and it does make a big difference. So, thx , Apollo

i5 2500k 4.4ghz, 8g ram, 280x 3gb, never drop below 30 (avg 45-50+) all eye candy on, TGP, TFR, WPN and FLIR cause hardly any fps drop now compared to 4.32, all in all 4.33 is better all round fps wise for me, and I haven’t upgraded for a long time, except for drivers, oh and I’m now using Windows 10 64 bit, no issues.
-
Hey Drexx you have that 2500 on air or water cooled?
-
Liquid cooling, i.e. a fan blows on a radiator that cools the liquid that circulates round my CPU.

I am astonished - I have very similar 2500K running at 4.3GHz; 8GB DDR3 but with Radeon 5750 1GB over WIN7 64 bit and averaging only 25 FPS (though I do have extracted MFD into separate windows and MFDE for some gauges) - is the R9 280x really improving performance that much or am I just crippling my FPS with the extracted stuff??

Since 4.33 release I’ve had zero problems with fps, on average fps is slightly lower that it was in 4.32, but in 4.32 I’d drop from 60 to below 30 at times during major battles in campaign, I’d always be adjusting things to gain more.
But now I just fly campaign with no worries, fps is fine, no major problems, runs good with trackIR, no annoying fps drops or stutters noticed, not sure if windows 10 helps much or not?, whatever it is its working good for me.
I don’t use extracted MFD’s, so wouldn’t know what FPS hit that would cause. -
I’ve figured out two tricks to improve FPS.
Turning off shaders:
go to …\Falcon BMS 4.33\User\Config, open falcon bms.cfg, add line: set g_bUseShaders 0Turning off wing vapors:
go to …\Falcon BMS 4.33\Data\Terrdata, open particlesys.ini, find ‘definetexture=vapor0’ and ‘definetexture=vapor1’ in lines texture.blendmode=SMOKE change SMOKE to HEATTurning off shaders through the config put me in the 80’s fps wise, however I get terrain flickering.

What video driver version are you running ?
Do you typically keep windows and video drivers updated regularly ?
