Outside of the DCS system, I have always wanted a smooth running playable sim like this… Over the years I have installed older versions of BMS, F4LF and others. But they never really seemed ‘complete’ to me for some reason even though I have no real clue on the nuances of these sims.

I installed 4.33 and realized it is the version I am actually now interested in learning to use, play and fly! Plus I have a new HOTAS I bought finally to use.

BUT then I realized something… I have NO IDEA what I am doing… Oh, I can make it go up and down and right and left and faster and slower… heck I can even eject!

But when it comes to doing anything else… yea… right. I cannot even launch a damn missile… heck I cannot even figure out how to find a target to shoot at before they shoot me! Even with labels on, all I can do right now is sit there and wonder what to do next!

So with all that said, can someone point me toward the ‘stupid persons’ step by step walk through on how to do anything! 😉

Additionally, is it possible to set the sim up in dummy mode where say I can put guns on this button, missiles on this button, hit that button to lock any enemy plane or target, another button to select which weapon to use… i.e. basically a very basic gameplay mode that I can then start with and slowly increase difficulty in how options work as I learn?

Or maybe some dumb guy step by step tutorials? You know, the kind where I see a list: step 1, click this button. Step 2, click that lever. Step 3 oops… start over at step one…??

Check out the youtube tutorials. I think there are a few new ones for 4.33. There are tutorials for the TE missions in the docs folder as well. That and the manual are also a great place to start…piece by piece. Been at this sim since 1998 and ever iteration, and I’m still learning…especially now.

…and yes, this is a game changing update for sure ('scuse the pun!).

          Good day,

We all started having no idea too
              Study, practice and have patience.

Well if you’ve got an office that allows you to print stuff off…. I printed all four manuals in a course of two days at my office. 🆒

In the user docs folder in your Falcon install there is the training guide. I’m using that with the training missions to learn operation. At this point I can start up, take off, navigate steering points, use Auto-Pilot, and land. It’s taking me some time, but I’m not really rushing anything either.

                        Ah…welcome to “flight school”!

                        1. Setup your HOTAS first
C:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\BMS-Manual.pdf, pg 4-37. There isn’t a mode for dummies in BMS! However, the sim is already setup for mapping of joystick buttons to the avionics functions. If not already default, recommend you use (load) the BMS-Full keyfile. In controller setup, Dx map only the functions located in the throttle and stick sections of the keyfile. More documentation pertaining to controllers found here: C:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Key Files & Input\

                        2. Setup the simulation for learning
                          C:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\BMS-Manual.pdf, pg 4-24
To save yourself the trouble of having to constantly restart sorties due to crashing, getting shot down, running out of something, etc, turn ON the following simulation page settings: Invulnerability, Unlimited Fuel, Unlimited Chaff & Flares, No Collision, No Blackout, Smart Scaling, and Padlocking Enhanced.

                        3. Repeat over and over again:

                        • Read ALL the manuals
                        • Learn/tinker with game settings, planning map, DTC, avionics, etc
                        • Watch youtube videos. Search “Falcon BMS” (many 4.32 videos still apply to 4.33).
                        • Fly the training TEs
                        • Always remember learn first, master with repetition.
                        1. Now you are ready for the next learning phase, how to fight and survive (BFM, DACT, CAS, etc)!

Yep, for near the cost of printing…I love my Samsung 10 inch.

Training Manual and the Training TEs, that’s what they were designed for.

They’ll take you step-by-step through the basics, all the way through to employing weapons.

It’s like having your own personal Red Dog. 😉
