ECM PACKAGE

Hi.
I’m confused now. Does it or doesn’t work?
Let’s say I add a flight of an f-111 and have it circle between a sa-10 and a radar site and I fly over the area while the f-111 is over the area with jam as it’s stpt action. Would the sa-10 hit me or not?
Does work as “it should” (Jamming is selective): against SAM (and maybe EWR?) radars, not against AI radars.
Good info here: Electronic-Warfare-Fundamentals.pdf (Chapter9)

before someone jumps the gun, ai = airborne intercept. not the artificial intelligence.

thanx Moort for clarifying this. So this is as in Real. In Real ECM flights (at least back at IW1=Iraq War one) that was the role, jam ground radars and sam sites only, not airborn radars.
Wow that changes things… Finally maybe I will finish a campaign afterall… LOL

ECM will only support you against mud radar threats, not against enemy air radars or enemy awacs. It will possibly not shield you from detection of enemy non-SAM search radars either ?

As I know no one of current campaign have any SOJ squadron except Korea '80s, but EA-6B fly SEAD mission instead ECM.

If the planes are there than I can Add a flight just for ecm jam and me join the normal strike mission… right?

correct, dont forget to setup their jamming points

i’ve never flown the growler, is the ecm package like a weapon, is there something I need to learn, or do i just push a button and turn it on?
-
of course any ECM aircraft whatever his team color can jam whatever other systems of another color team
Whats the impact of ECM on enemy and friendly AA radars?
I had the impression that in real specialized airborne platforms like the EA-18G, EF-111 and EA-6B could spot and jam other fighter aircraft radars etc. I’ve did a search and I could not trace anywhere a commend that these systems are only capable of tracking and jamming ground radar threats.
What I DO know is that in real, even a wingman wearing an onboard jammer system will also jam the other flight members if they are withing his jammer fov, he will spoil comms, -120 shots, datalinks, etc etc. Jammer is a weapon to be used only after careful planning and under specific circumstances in flight.

The BMS jamming task is AI only like being a tanker or AWACS. There’s nothing a human can do in cockpit to control the effects. Best case the effect just “comes on” when you reach the waypoints with the jamming task beyond pilot control. Worst case the jamming effect never happens with human at controls.

A couple of weeks ago I tested this and it does seem that a human controlled jamming flight does work in jamming mud. took prowler and ef18 out over sams in a TE without being fired on and had ai f16 in the area not getting shot at either.
I did have jamming steerpoints set in the UI of course.

Exactly. The human pilot must select the first or second jam STPT and never set any other in the UFC, until he wants to turn jamming off eternally. For that, he simply select another STPT. From my experience, with simple flight plans (2 jamming patrol STPT).
There’s kind of a limitation for the AI jam there. I’m trying to find a workaround about it. You first have to send the AI jammer in the area (he’s protected since “En route: Jamming”, but not the other aircrafts…), and when he’s patrolling, you can enter too. Setting intermediate, patrol STPT is quite painful, and not very satisfying either. It’s a pity that, so far, en route jamming doesn’t affect friendlies around. I suppose it’s not intended to be so.
EDIT: Mmmph… Mission Commander, on Action: Jamming STPT, untick “Repeat”… and you have a clean ingress and egress flight plan with time on station defined by your original patrol STPT
