Fallon-Nevada Theater discussion

If you want a hand of help for this nice theater about NavAids, their list and some IAP charts, iām here for you, just āpmā me ;).
Nikos. -
I already have a stations.dat file complete with ILS and a few approach plates made of for Nevada.
Again, all depending on the compatibility of this Fallon-Nevada terrain with the past version, but in anyway I shouldnāt be too hard to adapt to the new version. -
@Red:
Well yes. Not sure it would be useful since it might not match the new boudaries and itās far from being finished since itās only the backround map with terrain and latitudes and longitudes.
My next step was to place airbase and MOAs but that was put to a standstill with the PMC fiasco.Iām dearly looking forward to finish this map and have such a practise terrain for BMS, so yeah, if my help is needed, consider it done.
Iām looking forward to finish that map indeed.
Itās not the latest one but you get the picture (teh last one is in Deejayās UI conversion above)Maybe can help you this image??
Much time ago, I was trying to do a mix betwen nevada map and nevada chartsā¦ but I stoped itā¦
But I have a little question: Why not use a real navigation chart mix on background for main map?

I have jumped to cockpit again and flew over Nevada. And while flying over I was thinking to myself , why I put this project on the shelf.
But then it slowly came to me. Tile/set limitā¦.
I thought at the time, with such good satellite photo material available for this area, why not to really push the limit little further. Better mountains , better roads , better creeks better cities. With DCS coming with their grand and pretty gorgeous Nevada terrain, I thought Falcon community wanted to look good too when compared side by side. Sure perhaps that would still be not exactly the same, but at least we would put up some good fight. I am still positively convinced that we can!
But ā¦with added Las Vegas I came up pretty close to the limits then. And so here we are today. Can BMS coders kindly lift that set/tile limit? IMHO it is well worth all of the efforts if even just for new Falcon BMS Nevada,
Thank you & few more shots.

looks already nice, Ted.
+1 for the tileset limit topic.
Cheers,
LS -
I am not able to help so perhaps my opinion is invalid, but if the new tiling means 2 years before we see the end result, I would say no. Sooner with what we have is better IMHO.

Well another theater under development on the shelf as othersā¦

slow down Arty :-), they get to it ā¦ā¦

I hope soā¦
Not get back to the subject but we all know how many theaters are on the makingā¦ Even Israel isnāt finished. -
My bet is on Somalia, Poland and EMF.

Not get back to the subject but we all know how many theaters are on the makingā¦ Even Israel isnāt finished.Arty my dear friend,
you are right,
but all that W.I.P. shows me - that there are a lot of good people out there, who wanna get things rolling.
Ok, it will take his time ( and they do it in there off time ) might be that somethings get finish - somethings might not.
BUT the importaint thing is, that they show interest on BMS - and we, as users are getting there work for free.
Even the Akropolis was not build on a single dayā¦ā¦
-
Even Israel isnāt finished.
Maybe is not finished finished, but BMS community is flying it, right? Still, I agree, sure it could be better and I would love to have some comments how to make it finished.
My call for being able to use more tiles is not to āwhineā or the look for an excuse for suspended project which not being finished from other reasons. Rather ā¦. it is to be able to do things better. Other flavor of Falcon FF has that feature built in and I hope that this can be done in BMS as well.
And noā¦ it would not take 2 years to make it happen, we have learned already quite a lot how to speed up things and make more efficient. -
Maybe is not finished finished, but BMS community is flying it, right?
Yes, but the tiling is ugly and unfinished and the Nellis elevations are messed up.
-
This post is deleted! -
I am really curious about the clouds and the shadows of clouds, never seem anything in my BMSā¦
-

@Mower, that I agree, Artyās comment was about Israel being unfinished, which I do not dispute just asking what bothers the most.
@Plutonium, nothing special done to clouds, just perhaps the shot was from close up. -
Well I know but someone has to bark some timesā¦ wraff lol
-
Sometimes it helps to remember how Falcon looked 4 years ago, even before HiTiles became standard in FF with FF5.5 IIRC.
ā¦back then ODS (and Aegean later, followed by Taiwan and a new Balkans terrain then ITO2) was the best looking theatre IMO, since then a lot was done, wasnāt it?
ā¦for Falcon lovers, a lot great stuff was done recently. I think with a little patience, we will have some kickass new theatres.
If I only knew how to do it, Iād import my IL-2 Korean tex into BMS so that f.u.c.k.e.r looked better.
Korea so sucks.Chrs

Ted,
I had no idea you had this much stuff for Nevada laying around. Iām not completely fixated on Fallon- my house isnāt there or something like that- so if we want to bump it up to 64 segments to encompass Las Vegas that is fine with me.My entering argument for a Nevada/Fallon theater (or any theater in general) is that it has to have a tight enough focus that we can actually finish it in a reasonable amount of time. The larger you make a theater, the more stuff you fill it with and then the more troubleshooting you have to do. If we make it 64 segments, just keep in mind that as a campaign creator my intentions will be to focus the campaign into a small areaā¦and even that might be troublesome.
Let me use the PMC Nevada as an example. I built my Fulda scenario such that a ground war would take place around Las Vegas. All of the interesting stuff was happening withing say 120nm radius of LV. But because you had red/blue objectives all the way out at places like San Diego and way up north, the ATO would schedule flights that really had no bearing on the scenario. To some extent this can be fixed by deleting all of those distant objectives- we have the terrain built but it will be āemptyā terrain with no objectives there. This gets a little beyond what I know how to do but I think I can figure it out; might just need to properly build the PAK map or something.
A few final thoughts: if we have to deal with a tile limit then so be it. Maybe it would be possible to build/use some generic desert sand tiles for the majority of the area and just use your photoreal tiles in areas were it will have the most impact? So if we do 64 segments including LV, you photoreal LV and the immediate surrounding area, go to generic sand for the majority of the rest of the map, and maybe stick in a few photoreal mountains and stuff in the area where the main campaign action is taking placeā¦itās a compromise but we have to work with what we have.
I flew PMC Nevada for years and enjoyed the heck out of it even with those weird orange tiles. Iām sure we can find a decent compromise.
Lastly, I have to point out again that I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CREATE A TERRAIN. I can work with TacEdit all day, and F4Browse to some extent, but I simply cannot figure out how to create a terrain and tile it. Iām happy to give creative direction and lead like that, but I canāt do the grunt work of creating the terrain.
