WIP: F-14 B/D

Playing around with smoothing, smoothing groups and the edge splits…added some things like NACA ducts and droptank connctors. Currently attaching the vertical stab base to the rear fuselage.
Oh yeah and pretty much manually triangulated, modified and optimized everything you see with the power of the bee and vespene gas
@Zimluura: knew these cmds, useful no doubt. I love how Blender takes sth like edge-e, face-f, join-j and then arranges the editing options around the key and shft, alt, ctrl, lmb, rmb…the interaction is stunning.

With the vertical and horizontal stabs came the scale problems which was to be expected given the absence of any accurate blue prints. Luckily I was able to find one useful profile drawing which matched my textures I made for the ‘old new’ model and all is good now.
The engine nozzles and engine shroud are pretty ‘exposed’ on the D-cat but what little blueprints and drawings there are deal with the A and early B variants with the P&W engines so it took some adjusting and researching but I’m pretty satisfied with it now. After putting together countless textures for this bird this is actually the first time I’m noticing these subtle differences re the D Tomcat.
Horizontal stabs are finished in shape and position but the rear side fuselage has to be detailed so that the stabs can rotate freely as on the original.
Upper engine housings on the rear deck and vertical stab bases are also finished in position, the base still needs the hydraulic tail rudder actuator housing on the right side.
Other changes include re sizing and re positioning of the drop tanks, ventral fin NACA duct, ventral fin itself, bottom side of the glove and some details at the upper air intake in front.
I also had to remove all…Holy **** I’m sitting in a A319 right now at crusing ALT and a A340 just crossed our flight path at a 90 degree angle some 400ft below us - sure hope ‘they’ planned that :D.
Anyway, smoothing groups all removed for now - will put them back once the front is attached.

Bring it to life… Hell yeah :p!

And of course we are gonna kill you if you don’t give us also this super loved camo:
Joking of course…
Keep on this baby and Thank you very much.

True Nikos, but we also need hi-vis repaints of VF-1 Wolfpacks

PLEASE, if these are going to be used in campaigns- include VF-154 and VF-211 in their last low-viz schemes for realism. VF-84 has great heritage, but the that skin has been done to death and is only really useful in shooting down Mitsubishi Type 0 fighters……
F-14A= VF-154, VF-211
F-14B= VF-11, VF-32
F-14D= VF-31, VF-2 -

Roger that. Thanks man. Like I mentioned in first post textures are mostly done and since I come from the skinners side of the game I’ll take the pleasure of skinning it myself. If I run into any bottlenecks later on I’ll give a heads up.
Tomcat fan note #1: Note external antennas and you’ll know which variant is depicted here :D.

@ neystratiou, Chuckles, Turkeydriver:
Guys, cool it :D. It’s a long way to dealing with luxury problems such as ‘which skins are we gonna need’.
What I can say now is that the modelling/skinning will go in the order of D > B and maybe just maybe eventually A.
The late F-14 as the premier fighter-bomber-interceptor is the machine with the most use cases in any campaign staged between '99-'06 (for USN that is, IIRAF Tomcat surely is one of the most intriguing issues in modern mil aviation).
That being said as some of you may know I have quite the stencil collection for more than 45 Tomcat squadrons going back more than 8 years so skin variation shouldn’t be a problem.
And neystratiou rest assured I won’t forget about everyone’s fav pirate…
Jolly Rogers Tomcats (B only) active until 2004 so well in the target timeframe.

Haha, THANK YOU dear friend!
You can’t imagine how many people are you gonna highly satisfy with this specific skin… I guarantee this!

Filled the hole on the back. I first rebuilt the top part of the glovebox so it can attach to the front fuselage. The rear part of the canopy was built separately so the line flow is authentic. Then adapted the part you almost never see, the connector between the front fuselage and the inner intake frame.
Gettin’ close to having all the main parts roughly done.

Keep creating THE baby… :drink:

Amazing model. Congratulations stingray_SIX_TWO, outstanding work.
Best compliments and regards.Note: F-14 very difficult model. I’ve tried a few years ago (Rafale and F-18 ). But very hard work. Therefore I give up.

Thanks a lot man! I think you’re right that the Tomcat is exceptionally shall we say ‘complex’ when it comes to the surfaces and parts so I’m trying my best.
You’re Superbug looks like a beautiful base for further development! The proportions look spot on!
