How do shoot guns not working

Been trying to find it on here and right now im on the bms keyboard layout don’t see it no where

Look for “2nd trigger detent” on the keyboard layout PDF. In order to fire the gun in A-A, you need to have either A-A master mode and the gun selected or DGFT override mode selected.

…and MASTER ARM -> ON…I think. Or is the gun always hot? I forget…but I thought it was the only thing on trigger detent 2, and will always fire as long as MASTER ARM is hot; you just may not have the firing symbology you might want at the time.

Just revisting this, I am fooling around a bit and trying to figure out how to shoot guns but it’s kind of hit or miss. If i go to DF override it switched to aim9’s but I can’t shoot my gun. Then there seems to be some sort of way where i can actually change to guns once all aim9’s are depleted and then it’ll fire. Another time it switched to guns and there was no way to fire the AIM9’s. Can anyone offer any insight here? I have my first and second detent correctly mapped, I thought in df it was always supposed to have guns hot.

@Thombalabomba Second detent of trigger should shoot the gun in dogfight mode regardless of missile load. What button are you pressing to fire missiles currently?

Thanks for your reply! I have another button (big red one) on my stick (VKB gunfighter MCG) mapped as weapon release. This will usually fire a sidewinder in dogfight mode. However, it doesn’t neccesarily mean that the gun will fire in this mode. Is it possible that I am messing something up during the ramp start?

Do you have only “weapon release” mapped to your stick?
You need to map “second trigger detent” if you want to shoot your gun!cheers

Niche and aging… Yeah, I wonder when I turn 60 in 15 years will there still be people flying this thing. Cause right now I don’t see me enjoying this great work the devs are doing here. I’ve been using this sim for like 20 hours in the last 10 years (life, kids, wife, also financial torrents not Falcon friendly), prior to that I’ve had almost 1000 flight hours per year since 2002.
I do thoroughly enjoy being around here though and drooling every time a new release is out. Also trying to keep my share of BMS torrents online all the time.And this, do not downvote a real question!!! C’mon!
As for the topic, the only thing I can see is the 2nd detent switch is not mapped.

I don’t know of anything special in BMS ramp-start process, to do with the cannon.
But simplify … start in the air (eg. Instant Action … or Tactical Engagement, TR#3).
Just switch Master Arm to ARM and hit ‘D’ for dogfight. What does your screen look like? Here’s what you should see… gun is hot, in this screenshot.

Second trigger detent will fire guns (or equivalent keyboard call back)If that’s not working, possibly a mistake in your second trigger detent binding to your stick? Maybe check it’s not inadvertently setting first trigger detent as your second when you pull through the first stage on your two stage trigger.
Also, if you need to enter DF override from MRM override make sure you cancel MRM override before entering DF override, unless you’re using a 3 position switch and/or auto cancel. If you don’t cancel it it will behave strangely as the jet is supposed to pass through “cancel” between modes

@danster How does one do a “long press” on a latching 3 position switch? Its either in DF - OFF or MSL override. Can you explain further?
