New Rig
-
Just got my new Rig the other day and after setting up and some flying I must say that I am overly impressed. My new system is an Alienware M17x with an i7-4700MQ, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD and a Radeon R9 M290X Graphics card. I’ve maxed out the settings and added various mods and it runs excellent! Can’t wait to get into a campaign and experience this sim at the top of its game.

Cheers on your new system!

How’s your Alienware system held up to date?

It’s excellent. Still runs like a charm. Haven’t had any issues at all. Only thing I would change is that I should have gotten the system with the nvidia card. ATI doesn’t run lots of programs as well.

I love my ATI R9M290X….one of these runs better with stock settings than having to mess with settings on my 2 old NVIDIA GTX660Ti.

Yea the ATI card does run well. However for FSX and older stuff nvidia seems to run it much better.

Stay to AMD side. Their drivers rock and are very stable!
Keep this in mind…
Nikos (owner of an AMD R9-270). -
First time I’ve seen AMD drivers praised! They’re often criticised for not looking after the older DX9 or OpenGL parts and only bothering with DX10+, hence the issues with DCS, X-Plane, etc. Even with newer games like Witcher 3 there’s reports of AMD issues and having to resort to using Radeon Pro (which is no longer maintained since AMD signed up the author to work on some software that no-one really cares about) to try and get acceptable performance.
It really shouldn’t be beyond them to supply something like Radeon Pro but which automatically sets the correct settings for each game and card to make it run optimally, so that users aren’t left to hunt around for suggestions and spend hours trying things out to get games working properly.

AMD dx9 drivers are joke, i dont care about dx9 but All combatsims are made for dx9 for now, falcon BMS , dcs , il-2 series etc…
Maybe in future we get DX10 sim, dcs 2.0 falcon 5.xx

FYI The IL-2 Series based on 1946 are best run in opengl . The trick with ATI and getting that sim to run well is use one of the older DLLS which I have. Fixes all the problems. Anyways… Generally speaking Nvidia seems to be a bit more friendly with sims. Also Cliffs of Dover (Team Fusion Mod) is a DX10 game.

Could you point me to this DLL which works best with IL-2 please?
