FO - Battle For Balkans Theater
-
Works when installing in Windows 2008 Server VM. Doesn’t work under Wine.
Kind of ironic that BMS proper works under Wine, but not some little installer.
As for UPX, don’t use it, unless you have something to hide.
I can also put out the raw package if you would like to move it to a linux box / VM… just let me know.
-
Can put it online myself if you allow it and give out the password to the 7zip archive inside the main .7z package.

Technically you have all the files on the target system once installed, so if you need the source files just transfer them from a location which you can use the BfB installer…
The installer drops the SU-27 FM dats and cockpits into the BMS root, obviously along with the add on battle for balkans folder.

This is bad. I checked to verify and indeed the SU-27 FM and AFM files are replaced.
FO guys, I truly appreciate your efforts and BFB looks wonderful. But replacing FM files without clear user consent and understanding is seriously wrong. That means those who installed BFB are now MP incompatible with those who didn’t (while flying in Korea) - and they don’t even know about it.
I wanted to uninstall BFB to compare the two versions but I couldn’t find an uninstaller - if there isn’t one it’s even worse. Come on guys, you should know better.IMHO you should post a clarification to everyone and let them know FM files were replaced, and how to restore the original ones (are they backed up somewhere?)

Agreed, Hopefully 4.33 will have checksums for FM’s etc…

Great theater, very impressed with everything from the installer, UI, new models, the sounds, textures to the campaign. Well done and worth the wait.
Regarding the FM dat files… For my group we need to know what was changed so we can back it out, and use a separate BMS install going forward to participate in BFB on the FO server. Looking forward to flying on the server tomorrow.

Personally i am not a fan of custom FMs, agree, thus the interest of mine in Simcheck as such (many obvious reasons - self explanatory).
BUT! as a dedicated team worked on the Su-27 and many wanted it as fly-able plane in this theater, it HAD TO be made this way.
There is (was) no AFM file for the Su-27, hence one had to be implemented or “dropped in”.Another legit question is that, if new FMs are introduced (for what plane or by whom ever) those need to be justified with valid compare-able real-live data elaborating why it is (was) made the way it is. On the other hand, in case of the F-16 (by Mav-Jp) i.e. we have enough reference data, but for all other planes inside BMS it is STILL a “trust-basis” anyways as scientific data or validation is missing.
I haven´t tested the FM on this Su-27 at all to be honest (just a quick test), but i believe whose guys who made it gave their best from what i can tell.

I am very sorry to tell you this has been discussed to death in the Su-27 thread that there will be a FM for the Su-27 which will be released with BFB. I guess you didn’t follow that Thread. I hope metal head or nizmo can put more light on this subject. If you wana uninstall just run the setup again and it is Gone very simple.

Regarding the FM dat files… For my group we need to know what was changed so we can back it out
I just checked:
1st) It injects a new su27_afm.dat file under Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Sim\ACDATA (this one did not exist before)
2nd) It replaces the su27.dat file accordingly (sync-ed one with with the afm file). Don´t ask me if the installer backs(-ed) up the stock su-27.dat file ??!??!?!those who installed BFB are now MP incompatible with those who didn’t (while flying in Korea) - and they don’t even know about it.
Meh, don´t worry about it. How many Korea Theaters have the Su-27 flyable anyways?

A.S and Archer you are missing my point - I didn’t criticize the inclusion of a modified SU-27 FM, but the fact that it is installed by default without user consent. since it is a global file it makes the install MP incompatible with the default install.

Point taken, but incompatible only if the Simdata folder would be validated (by BMS or 3rd party-tools) - future
For MP it has no impact whatsoever.I do agree though, that the installer (as in the previous ones Aphex made) should have included
a “Do you want to install this” option + explanation + rollback-backup.“Touching” global files is a very sensitive area and i personally (in RF i.e) avoid it completly, or the installer informed you (RF particle.sys file install/no install option in example).
For this theater though, it was a wish by community and thus a compromise was made i believe. Every coin has two sides. -

Ok let me Explain. Now during the making of BFB we clearly side that there will be a Su-27 Pit and FM, now before you install the Theater it clearly says in the credit list that there is a FM and A pit made by Mr. so and so. Now about the MP incompatibility i am sure FM of a jet which is hardly flown in Korea or IT theater is going to be a Issue at all, matter of fact it doesn’t cause any MP incompatibility at all.
-
It will also over write any custom particlesys.ini you may have, so I would recommend a separate install from your normal fly install if you are running anything custom. We at the 1st VFW have instructed our members to use a separate install.

not everyone read the credits before installing, and not everyone may be aware of the meaning of it.
There should not be such thing as ‘slightly MP incompatible’ install… Either 100% or not. I believe BMS devs will agree.
BTW it won’t affect just when flying the SU27 but also if the AI is flying it since it uses the OFM.@A.S:

+1
Again I strongly recommend you clarify this in an ‘announcement’ of some sort to prevent future MP issues. -

Obviously one issue is 2 people flying SU27s with different FMs.
But since I don’t think anyone tested seriously MP with different FM files, who knows what else… Why get into it in the first place? -
Great news guys, I am excited to try your new mod. Unfortunately, the torrent is stuck at 0.7%. Is there any way we could get more folks seeding?
-
And after the wrong of not letting the user to know about it… is there an F4patch so the user to switch back and forth? or the user has to uninstall and reinstall each time he wants to fly mp for other theater?
So Su27 dat files and particle sys file… what else?
Also the member that created the Aegean v2.1 for 320FW installer has update capabilities and no virus warnings from no one…
could u please upload a simple rar with the files so to see and avoid the problems? I don’t want to create a new Falcon install just to compare and find the files.
oh thanx for the hard work and efforts but those would be a good thing to be looked and fixed.
Damn I must hurry and inform my squad members… this will totally fubar our setup…
-
must put the Balcans Objects Features by nove inside the theather
its gives to that amazing theather new ERA with this great airport cities and village!!! -
Hi guys
I thorougly enjoy FO. Thx for the hard work there.
And please clearly state if the installer does more than just installing a theater. Everybody can make an informed choice of installing it or not.Thats an easy thing to do.
Currently it is not clear.
