Emergency Divert
-
I always drag the divert base to one as close to the Flot on my mission route as possible. I guess the default location is fine when you return to find runway cratered but that’s rare. Or leave where it is and just make an extra SP at most northern friendly base. Print/use a map and have the co-ordinates available, but that’s more work. Simplest as Agave_Blue wrote is use awacs (IF AVAILABLE/radio working)

You could also use PPTs to mark a couple of likely divert locations.

Bad idea. Divert field is a divert in case of recovery field unavailable. So it has to be the closest possible of your recovery field. Emergency field is something different.
If I am not wrong (code wise) By doing this, you are increasing your (actually AI’s) Bingo value and more and it might leads into the loss of your AI wingman in case of effective diversion (not enough fuel). You could also use PPTs to mark a couple of likely divert locations.
Way better.

Agave_blue good point yeah It is some times, And as long as you know where you are in your AO its doable. I was just thinking maybe there was something like in DCS A-10C where you can bring up a divert list and select one. As for you PPT….That is a damn god idea thank you!. And thank you to the others for responding. Ill give AWACS and set up some PPT, and maybe pay more attention to nerest airfields in the briefing

Definitely a good idea. Once you have been flying a while, studying maps etc… you will just know the fields in the area. Coming back from the North, there are plenty you can spot from the air, even not knowing their exact position.

That brings up another question : how do you know which air base this is and how to comunicate with it ? (as a non experienced pilot I’m afraid to say)

Well, after you know the area, it becomes pretty obvious. Also for KTO there are a few airbases which are uniquely shaped, so you can visually ID them. For most airfields in the theater, which are identical, you ID them based on the terrain surrounding them and their location.
If you dont know where you are, then identifying the field could be a little more difficult. Then again, you are lost, so you have higher priorities than identifying some airstrip. If its unique, like Kimpo or Seoul for example, then identifying the field also tells you where you are!
But in short, you will be able to tell the ID of the base from your SA. If you are expecting an airfield to the west of your flight plan near steerpoint 3, and you see an airfield there, its probably the one you saw in your flight planning (or recalled from previous experience, etc).

You know where you are usually and you are able to cross check this with Tacan or with coordinates for example (which you can find on your maps which you have available of course) also the same maps provide you with the tower frequencies. PPTs or positions relative to your way points / bullseye you check in flight preparation is even easier. Again use the maps for the frequencies.

I am always impressed with the enemy AI when I fly. Today I was flying OCA on a radar station in Pyongyang. Encountered some Mig 29’s along the way and shot them both down so I was feeling good about the flight. 40 miles out from target AWACS declares a clear picture……20 miles out still clear. At this point im thinking my SEAD escorts have done a hell of a job. 17 miles out my RWR freaks out…One SA5, and four sa2’s launch simultaneously. I was able to drop stores and scramble like a mofo. I dodged a couple but each one I dodged was replaced with another launch. Yeah I got shot down but man…BMS is awesome. Im so happy the fan base is what it is and that people smarter than me have put the time in to make this the best sim ever. Thank you developers!!!
