    • Tornado cockpit mod for 4.36

Hi everyone – @Frederf and I collaborated on giving the legendary @qawa’s awesome Tornado cockpit an overhaul for BMS 4.36 to make it ramp-startable. We’ve added missing hotspots, replaced defunct ones, and made some tweaks to cockpit textures, including an upscale to 4K.

      UPDATED DOWNLOAD LINK (v1.1): https://www.dropbox.com/s/zti04o6yo5h2m41/Tornado 4.36 v1.1.zip?dl=1

The download link above contains the folders that should be dropped into your Falcon BMS 4.36/Data/ directory, or else into the subfolder of a particular theater, as well as cockpit hotspot diagrams. (And since this mod doesn’t touch any acdata files, it’s perfectly safe in both MP and SP.) Make sure you backup first… and enjoy!

      4K Tornado Cockpit

      Features:

      • Tornado can now be ramp started
      • Cockpit textures have been upscaled to 4K using Gigapixel AI and hand retouching
      • Added hotspots, including: IFF Master, RWR Handoff, FLCS Reset, OBOGS, Seat Up/Down, Hook Down, HUD DED, Probe Heat, TFR Toggle, Manual TF Flyup, Thrust Reverse, Anti Ice, Brake Channel, EPU On / Norm / Off, EPU Gen Test, Auto-Throttle
      • Fixed hotspots: Canopy Open/Close, JFS Start 1/2, JFS Cancel, Autopilot modes, Parking Brake, ECM Power / Operation, Throttle Idle / Cutoff
      • Replaced various old “toggle” hotspots with on/off or up/down versions
      • Cut off altitude tape on the HUD has been fixed
      • Backwards HSI has been fixed
      • Added smudges to left MFD
      • Darkened smudges on both MFDs

      Known issues:

      • Some switches don’t animate, including EPU, Pitot Heaters, Thrust Reverse, etc.
      • HDG Bug is reversed – set it to the opposite heading you want to use for the AP. (Unfortunately, there’s no easy way for us to fix this.)
      • Small upscaling artifacts in the texture.
      • The Auto-Throttle hotspot is enabled but it will not work until it’s enabled in the Tornado Acdata in some future release.
      • Taxi lights don’t work. Landing lights are okay.
      • TFR will not work if you start on the runway. Use a ramp start.
      • In 4.36, the Tornado TGP viewpoint is currently in the wrong position, causing masking against the fuselage. We haven’t been able to fix that by editing .dat files — hopefully the BMS devs can take a look at this when they have a moment.

(Thanks to everyone in the BMS Mafia for their help with this project!)

      Version History:
      v1.1:

      • revised cockpit text based on @arabianjules pics and a more careful look at the FMs
      • fixed cockpit wings model definitions
      • added hotspots: EPU On / Norm / Off, EPU Gen Test, Auto-Throttle
      • shuffled hotspots for autopilot on left panel (please see updated PDF for reference)

@Frederf That’s great! Can you share your work? I’m a big Tornado flier and have been meaning to do something similar.

I actually wrote a tool to view and edit cockpit hotspots for the BMS Mafia. Have been meaning to clean it up and post it here on the forum but haven’t had time lately. Can send you a prerelease if you’d like to give it a try.

You also might want to check out the BMS Mafia Discord, where we unofficially package up non-F16 fixes like this for players, theater authors, and BMS devs (if they think they’re useful to go upstream): https://discord.gg/ScjfswM9Ne

@Scorpion82 I tried activating the “hasATC” flag for the Tornado as well, but it didn’t work. I suspect the ATC feature is limited to the F-18 in some hardcoded way.

    • RE: Tornado cockpit mod for 4.36

@Vespa That’s basically right. The easiest thing to do is to drop the Art and TerrData folders from the download directly into Falcon BMS 4.36/Data, which will add these files to the Korea theater. Windows will prompt you to “Replace These Files” if you’ve done it correctly.

(If you’re adding it to a theater other than Korea, copy the files into Falcon BMS 4.36/Data/Add-on <Theater Name> instead.)

However, if you’re new to this, I strongly recommend backing up the files it overwrites, or else using a mod manager like JSGME , which does that for you.

    • RE: Tornado IDS G 3dButtons.dat improvement

@Seifer You guys are definitely welcome to add it. Here’s a link to the current release with source and some rudimentary instructions on use:

      https://github.com/musurca/bms_cockpit_hotspot_visualizer

I can put up a more dedicated forum thread for it if that would be useful for you.

@Frederf Unfortunately, it doesn’t load the 3D model of the underlying cockpit, as that format is currently undocumented. What you do with this tool is place new hotspots in relation to the other hotspots in the cockpit, then adjust as needed. My procedure is as follows:

      1. Do a first pass with this tool, adding hotspots roughly where I think they should be.
      2. Load up the cockpit in BMS, then make notes where I’ve missed the mark.
      3. Nudge the hotspots accordingly in the tool.

    • RE: ITO 4.36 -- Comms ladder empty

@Micro_440th Can confirm I took the right seat and did the “click dance.” This is in campaigns – tested in “Serpent’s Sting” and “Peace for Galilee.”

Note that this happens just with squadrons based at Ramat David. If I fly a mission fragged from another airbase, the comms ladder is okay.

EDIT: I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the theater. Didn’t help and same problem occurred.

    • ITO 4.36 -- Comms ladder empty

Hi – when flying missions fragged by the AI out of Ramat David in ITO 4.36, the comms ladder is mostly empty, having only filled in the tactical channel. (see below)

      alt text

I haven’t encountered this issue in the other 4.36 theaters I’ve flown yet (KTO & Balkans). Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

      Thanks!

    • Ground handling tweaks to OFM planes in 4.36?

Hi everyone-- I noticed that the 4.36 release notes mentioned ground handling improvements to OFM planes. Is there any more official information on what was adjusted here?

I was hoping it might be related to a comment by @Mav-jp regarding fixes for landing gear sticking to runways: https://forum.falcon-bms.com/post/332875

However, in the less-than-rigorous testing I’ve done so far in 4.36, my experience has been mixed; some OFM planes seem to take off more smoothly, but the gear on the Tornado IDS, for example, still sticks to the runway. No worries either way but just curious what the official status was!

(4.36 is otherwise fantastic, by the way – thanks for all your hard work!)
