How do I transfer my keyboard maps to new computer?
Hi all.
I got a new computer and I want to take the file that maps my inputs with my HOTAS.
Which of the Falcon 4 files would I move to the new computer to keep everything as it has been on my old computer. (Of course I will move my HOTAS files as well). Thanks!

RE: BMS 4.33 u1 - slow down in TE - what is the cause?
So I found this interesting.
I turned down the trees and the grass and now the TE’s are totally smooth - however the Campaign is still a slide show - yes I know it is a much more sophisticated beast, but it suggests to me that there is hope.

RE: BMS 4.33 u1 - slow down in TE - what is the cause?
@Cik:
3.3 is x86 limit AFAIK
you are running antique ware hombre, you should upgrade the OS at least and make sure you aren’t running antique memsticks.
LOL.
Yes, I understand.
When I see I have enough time to devote, I will upgrade.Any idea why it runs smoothly on dogfight and instant action, but is a slide show on even a basic TE?
I thought they were all loaded up in the same virtual world. Thanks!

RE: BMS 4.33 u1 - slow down in TE - what is the cause?
Overclock, stop services and apps running in the background, reduce gfx settings.
I believe u can find all in the Hot List.
There is a performance section.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk
Hi guys. Thanks for the reply.
Can you direct me to the Hot List (and performance section)?
You guys will laugh, but this gaming rig I have is running newly installed Windows XP - there is pretty much nothing on it except Falcon 4, my HOTAS and TrackIR software.
It does run fine with dogfight and instant action.I am pretty sure the ram is 4 gig, but in the system specs it comes up as 3.3 (not sure why).
I basically want to make sure that I am going to have enough time again to dedicate to flight sims before putting more money into a new gaming system. For now I am ok with lowering graphics settings if they will give me better frame rates in TE and Campaign, as long as they don’t take away too much from situational awareness - this is what I am looking to optimize.
Thanks!

BMS 4.33 u1 - slow down in TE - what is the cause?
Hi all.
When I do instant action or dogfight mode, I get very good frame rates.
However when doing even a basic TE’s my sim turns into a slide show.Is there some setting that I can change that will stop this from happening?
Is it a graphics setting or detail setting?I’m using an old rig - 3.3 gig ram, Intel Core2 Quad, q8200 2.33 ghz with nvidia geforce 9800 gtx/9800 gtx+ (512 mg ram)
I’m trying to avoid buying a new system just for gaming, so I am hoping to optimize things with just adjusting the settings.
Thanks for any suggestions!

RE: What are the key commands to use aim-9 and guns?
@Red:
The manuals do not refer any specific keystroke by design. There are so many different keyfiles that it would be too counter productive.
If I start referencing keystrokes, then ppl will complain that it doesn’t work but they will never have thought of trying with the keyfile the manual refers to.Beside 1: back in the F4 binder times, there was only 1 keyfile
Beside 2: the author of the manual does not use the default keystrokeby the way, did someone say it was a game?
Hi,
I would think that for the beginner, just refer to one keystroke file and leave it at that - the same way the original Falcon 4 did. It is not difficult to say “refer to the default keystroke file to learn basic key commands” and not too difficult to update this part of the manual as needed.
Approaching this in a way that is more complicated than the beginner needs, is surely to prevent newbies from joining unless they are fully devoted (even without knowing what it is about) - and to deter those who want to come back but simply have limited time (life, work, family, etc…) and just want to hop on in the jet every few weeks for an hour.
The keystrokes ARE an option in the game, so it I don’t really see how any argument against them really makes sense - they are just another way to interact with the sim. Now i’ve done it - you guys are going to remove the keystrokes all together, aren’t you?
I can understand the desire to make this an esoteric simulation that only the few devoted virtual pilots can use, but I’ll tell you, the early days when things were more simple and much more popular, I could easily find a group a people to fly with on IRC, pretty much 24 hours a day, and overall things were certainly much more fun.
My view of this sim has always been that it should be made it easy enough to approach by many, and deep enough to be appreciated and utilized by the devoted (at least that was what I tried to push for when working on SuperPAK & F4 Gold/OIR).
But what do I know? I’m not the one in charge of the path this sim is taking. Perhaps it IS a religion. (definitely not a game). Thanks for all the information.
Happy Holidays!

RE: What are the key commands to use aim-9 and guns?
Hi guys!
Thanks for the information!
I had forgotten to import my old keystrokes - once I did that, then everything is working fine.
The manuals definitely need better information to help make the transition from “in cockpit” controls to “on keyboard” controls - at least for the beginner.
I do this because I have been flying this sim sim since 1999 and I know how freaking awesome it still is - almost 20 years later.
A newbie will throw their arms up and walk away since they will be denied the experience I had when things were more simple and down to earth.I would suggest in the manual that it, in each section, refers to one of the default Keystroke files and teaches how to use them to help program the HOTAS. This will help recruit new members rather than pushing them away in frustration.
So for example, to get to dogfight boresite mode (although this is for my keystrokes and not the default, but the point is shown):
- press c = cockpit MRM/Dogfight override cancel
- press d = cockpit dogfight override mode
- press CTL F5 = radar ACM Boresite
This is what we used to do with the original release (and this is what is in the 400 page original binder Falcon 4.0 manual, which I still have), and I think up through BMS reigning supreme over the past few years.
I hope the manuals could be updated for this information - or an addendum/appendage to the manuals could be added.
I would go so far as to say this could be crucial to helping get and keep new flight sim members. It is not a religion (really it is not) - it is a game.
(We are like the last of the Jedi Knights!)Thanks for your help and your consideration!

What are the key commands to use aim-9 and guns?
Hi. I am trying to return to Falcon 4 from a long hiatus.
My old hotas config does not function properly with this latest BMS version.
I cannot find any instructions on what keys I need to press to get the guns to work or to use the aim-9 in boresite mode.
None of the 3 manuals I have found have this information & none of the youtube videos I have found show the specific key commands.
Can someone help me directly or show me a link that shows the specific steps?
Thanks!

RE: How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
Oh the drama….
Everyone that posted here was trying to help you. Turning around and saying that we’re all distasteful, immature and self-righteous was a unique response on your part – slow clap. We provided you with our opinions and in turn you shit on us.
You’re welcome.
Trying to help me? Odd.
hhmm…I asked a simple question - you did not answer it. I kindly asked you to answer the question again. Your reply? “No.”
(perhaps you should read the thread again since you have forgotten here)You want to decide what is best for me - someone you know nothing about?
By that logic, your first set of advice could have been “first buy a new computer”.My first thought was to ignore your original response, but I didn’t actually think someone was intentionally being difficult, but perhaps did not read the OP carefully, so I asked again.
See the title of this thread?: “How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?” Well if you genuinely feel that refusing to answer the question of a post which asks a specific question and instead give out other advice is the proper way to behave, then I apologize for my response to you.
I never thought that someone would try to “help” that way, but I guess that could be my ignorance. Perhaps you can realize that by that same logic any time anyone asks any question on the forum, you can reply - “first buy a new computer - I’m just trying to help”.The forum is made by its users…
(sorry, I have spent enough time on this thread. I shall move on. Say as you wish - you may have the last word if it pleases you)

RE: How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
If you think answering a question with care as to the outcome instead of a simple fact is distasteful, you need better taste. Someone wants to tickle a polar bear which is more respectful, advice that they are dangerous animals or directions to the zoo and which fences are short? The community also has to deal with the person with noble independence coming back with “guuuuuys my profile has a problem.”
I was going to post a link to the online help but I couldn’t find it.
http://www.stickworks.com/keycodes.htm
http://www.stickworks.com/contents.htmIt’s actually a little hard to find because the CH programming is so useful and geared toward NOT doing the virtual keyboard thing that it’s hard to find the tiny part that is for that.
Only smuggles sign their forum posts with their username
FrederfNah, you guys were just being difficult.
Your example, while interesting, is not appropriate to what happened here. This is after all a “CH” forum to discuss the functions of CH gear - asking about basic functionality should not lead to this type of self righteous response. Perhaps I have been flying versions of this sim for the past 15 years and perhaps I have a finely tuned way of doing things that work for me? Who do you think you are to feel that it is your right to exert your way of doing things upon me?It was easy enough to answer the question or to keep one’s mouth shut.
If you want to live that way, that is your choice.
I believe in helping people, not being a pain in their butt. Again, giving me the simple answer and then telling me there is a better way would be the respectful thing to do.
Apparently I am asking for too much from some people. I guess I need to go ask questions elsewhere (as I did already - thus giving me the answer I was looking for). One of the first posts I make here, with just a simple question, and I get a bunch of garbage in response - nice to know what I am dealing with here.
Bye,

RE: Making Buttons Act as Modifiers
For “alt” functions just type ALT
For “ctrl” functions just type CTL
For “shift” fucntions just type SHF(Looks like you can also put a R or L in front of the function (without a space) if you need to specify Left or Right)

RE: How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
Wow. I certainly was not expecting a simple question to be answered with such distasteful replies.
Sad what has happened to the flight sim community over the years.
Used to be that people would help you out and answer the questions posted.Sure, I understand that people feel there is a better way to go about this, but why not answer the question and then give opinions? Withholding the answer is really immature or self righteous - I guess one can decide which they want to be.
This tiny community really should work together rather than pissing people off and driving them away. For any of those looking for the answer, I did find it out by myself.
It is quite simple.
For “alt” functions just type ALT
For “ctrl” functions just type CTL
For “shift” fucntions just type SHFI hope this allows any and all individuals to do whatever they so desire with their HOTAS programming setup.
Good luck and have fun!

RE: How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
You don’t need to do it this way. Once you’re in dogfight mode, you can quickly switch to the various modes using TMS. There’s no need for fancy programming. The F-16 HOTAS is efficient… Focus on mapping your setup as closely to real as possible.
Ok, I will have to learn about that since I don’t know how to set TMS on my HOTAS.
In the mean time, can you tell me how to use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
Thanks,

How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
Hi,
I want to have a one button solution to change into dogfight boresite mode.
I need the button to enter
c d ctrl F5How do I get that to work with the CH software?
I can do the “c d” no problem, but how to I add a ctrl function?
How would I do the same thing but with the alt or shift buttons instead?
c d Shift F5?
c d alt F5?Thanks!

RE: How to shoot guns and missiles?
Both BMS.key and Keystrokes.key have an associated PDF in your docs folder.
You do need to load one of them (or make your own …. or modify one of the defaults to suit you).
IMHO … BMS.key is a better start for a HOTAS or Pit setup and keystrokes.key is if you need to rely more on key commands (limited HOTAS/joystick functionality, for example); Keystrokes seems to have a few more of the legacy Falcon4 bindings. ymmv.
Thanks!
Slowly relearning this stuff.
Feel like a newbie all over again!

RE: How to shoot guns and missiles?
Have you loaded the bms keystrokes file inside the game setup Paul? If your keystrokes are loaded, and should be able to press them and check from the controls page on what command it registers. Also, if you haven’t try depressing your pickle button for at least 2-3 seconds to fire SARH or ARH A-A missiles.
P.S. Welcome back
Hi KidVicious! How have you been? Good to see you after all these years. Any of the other guys still around?
I looked at the default setup and I noticed that no keys are assigned for the gun nor for the weapons pickle - odd. I also noticed that the key commands on the keyboard layout pdf file that comes with the game are not the same as what is in the default setup - also odd.
Am I supposed to load up one of those default layouts in order to have things setup like the pdf file shows? Looks like there are 2 options - which one corresponds to the pdf file?
Thanks!

How to shoot guns and missiles?
Hi,
I am a long time veteran of Falcon 4. I have flown since 1999 on the various versions of Falcon 4.
After a hiatus of many years, I decided to try BMS again.
I have installed up to patch 7.
How do I get the guns and missiles to fire? I can lock onto the enemy jets without a problem. Master arm is on. Neither pressing the space bar, nor the weapons release on my HOTAS (CH fighterstick pro) will fire any missile or the machine gun. I have never had this as an issue with any of the prior renditions of Falcon 4.
So far I have just tried this in instant action and in dogfight modes.
I have tried looking for instructions on youtube.com but I have not been able to find anything that helps. What is the trick to get the weapons to fire?
I would appreciate any helpful directions. Thanks!
