RE: AI wingmen don't do their assigned tasks..
In FF AI also dumb but at least always in the same way.
In BMS4 I cannot use AI even for an OCA missions. AI controlled AC sometimes attack the target, sometimes not. Even if they are engage the target somtimes choose its own attack direction…
THATS the biggest problem. I don’t mind the AI being “dumb” really, as long as I can predict that dumbness and work around it :D. but I can’t find any pattern for F4’s dumbness - it just seems random

RE: AI wingmen don't do their assigned tasks..
@T-C:
You think that something can be broken at some times, when at other times it is not?
Either it is broken or it´s not, so if it´s only at part times working there must be some other reason for “there refusal of cooperation”, right ??Well, guess what. I drop 2 bombs on a single pass as well - am I broken too (I´m broke tho<gg>).
Why spare one?Greetings
TC</gg>I don’t have a great deal of experience with F4, so I’m not really in a position to judge whether the AI is “broken”, but as a player it just seems almost impossible to determine how to accurately control AI bombing.
I play a lot of games which require AI management (ArmA, Hearts of Iron, Men of War, Homeworld, etc) and so I know that any game which enables complex AI control is never perfect. The human player must create certain conditions (positioning, etc) before the AI will obey orders predictably. If the conditions are not correct the AI in these games will appear “dumb”. So, half of the skill in controlling AI is creating the correct conditions before issuing any orders. So perhaps my problem is that I’ve just not learnt the conditions required for Falcon AI.
I’m not a “lazy gamer” so I will continue to search for the magic formula for controlling F4 AI bombings. But so far, it has been very difficult and I haven’t found any pattern or logic behind their behaviour. When I designate a target 10nm out (in a threat free area), order my wing to “attack my target” and he just flies above that target in full AB burning his fuel before going bingo and then just RTBs…something might be a bit wrong with his logic I think.
But it is definitely not a game-breaker. It just means I have no faith in AI bombing abilities and don’t feel I can rely on them in missions …that’s a shame for an otherwise awesome game.

RE: BMS updated manual under WIP from Redog !! ?
Very well done RedDog. I have only scanned it so far, but looks VERY well put together. Very nice layout, containing critical information.
Big thank you!

RE: AI wingmen don't do their assigned tasks..
Haven’t had any experience with other Falcons to refer too. But I have to agree with lazy when it comes to ground bombings. It’s like a frustrating game of Roulette trying to get wingmen/packages to drop their bombs. Sometimes they will, and other times (for no reason) they just circle above the target in full afterburn until bingo. I try issuing a rejoin command, and then waiting for them to get in formation, before taking them +6nm out and then reissuing “attack my target” - and other such tricksBut when they’re in “dumb mode” (which is 90% of the time on bombing runs) they simply refuse to play ball.
And yes (from my experience) they drop two bombs on a single pass - always.

RE: Hud-projection mod
if the pilot mod is included, i hope it’s optional. but this one would definitely be nice.

RE: AI wingmen don't do their assigned tasks..
urgh, just failed a four ship deepstrike sortie in Rolling Fire because I couldn’t get the AI to drop their GBUs on the target (did ensure they had targeting pods) . The target was at steerpoint 6, so before the mission, I reconned the area and set the target manually in the data cart - just to be sure. I also set secondary targets at steerpoints 15 onward.
Arrived 15nm out from the target and immediately ordered my wingman to attack the main target (target 6) and the element to attack the 1st secondary target I set at at steerpoint 15 and they all confirmed (wilco). They then proceeded to hover around for about 10 minutes after reaching the targets, not doing much, before calling bingo and leaving me stranded. So I went in on the main target and dropped my two GBUs but was only able to damage it.
Really frustrating, wish I knew the exact trick to get the AI to do what you want it to do. Guess I will have to keep practising.

RE: Saitek X-52PRO Profile UPDATED 3-30-12
hey harddeck.
Been using the profile a while now and love it. There is one slight niggle I have with it though: when i pinky + mini stick, it dims and brightens my MFDs and HMCS at the same time. Personally I would prefer it to just control the HMCS (as I can’t see any time I’d want to adjust the MFDs’ default brightness).
I often want to control the HMCS using the mini-stick but with the profile that would also mess with the MFD brightness level.

RE: AI wingmen don't do their assigned tasks..
if i order them to “attack my target” on a ground target, they seem to always drop two bombs at a go.
anyone know how to make them only drop one bomb at a target? it’s really annying as I would like them to attack other targets but they waste two on a single target

very nice profile. i’m new to f4 and i’ve been using this profile for a few weeks now. thanks for sharing!

RE: Pilot model fo F-16
Found this thread because I was hoping to find a way to import information jpgs/pdfs into the 3D cock-pit (charts, maps, etc).
Clearly alot of hard work has gone into this cock-pit body, and it LOOKS great. However, it’s not practical and I really hope it is not included as a default feature in the next BMS. Sorry, but it clearly obstructs the instruments and serves no real purpose apart from “visual eye candy”.
What would be great is to have two simple “floating” clipboards (positioned where they would be on the virtual body but without the body!) which simply reference pages from PDFs stored in some designated BMS directory. The interface of the clipboard should enable multiple pages of the PDF/jpgs to be flipped (using left/right mouse clicks on the board).
Just simple floating boards….minus the obstructive body parts, please BMS. And if this body-mod must be include PLEASE make it optional to have only the floating clipboards. Information kneeboards are critical, but the bulky obstructive virtual body is not.

RE: Cursor speed
I am having the same issue. Mouse movement in the 3D pit is way too slow and it has nothing to do with FPS performance. FRAPS reports constant 30fps+.
I have a low dpi mouse which I accelerate via Windows 7 mouse settings. It seems in the pit this acceleration is ignored and I can’t see any setting to set game-specific acceleration
EDIT: interestingly enough, while looking for a solution, I have come across this old review written on Falcon 4.0’s release which mentions the issue of slow mouse speed:
…in the heat of battle I doubt you’d go about clicking buttons rather than hitting them on the keyboard, especially since mouse sensitivity seems to be somewhat low.
