RE: Where can I find info on the damage model in BMS?
weapon effects is probably one of the lesser developed parts of BMS. Should be able to pull up hitpoints and damage data with the BMS editor.
Where can I find the BMS editor?

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Running BMS on Linux/WINE with opentrack HOWTO
BMS 4.35 runs great on linux, considerably faster than on windows with the same hardware.
I have checked that it runs on ubuntu 20.04, 20.10 and 21.04. You do need
winetricks dxvkI use the latest winehq-staging version of wine, currently wine 6.15 (Staging)
It also runs on manjaro; select dxvk there too.

Does Somalia theater work with 4.35.2?
Can I install Falcon_BMS_4.35.2_Incremental.exe and still use the Somalia theater, or are there issues?
Thanks

Does Vietnam theater work with 4.35.2?
How well does this theater work with 4.25.2?
Thanks

RE: Does update 4.35.2 break theaters?
I use the theaters that simulate historical wars rather than hypothetical ones. My list of historical theaters, which may be incomplete, is Balkans, Israel, Somalia, Vietnam.

RE: Does update 4.35.2 break theaters?
Should we wait for the 4.35.2 version of the theaters we use before upgrading our BMS install to 4.35.2? Or should we use the current theaters with 4.35.2, and be on the lookout for bugs in certain areas?

Does update 4.35.2 break theaters?
Do the current theaters work with update 4.35.2, or is it necessary to update theaters such that they work with 4.35.2?
Thanks

Can the Bayraktar TB2 be added to BMS?
LGB-equipped TB2 drone swarms are having a big impact on conflicts in Syria, Libya and Azerbaijan:
Can the TB2 be added to BMS? The player could “fly” one or more drones and use the existing BMS LGB avionics.

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Running BMS on Linux/WINE with opentrack HOWTO
Has anyone been able to get current BMS running on Debian 11 (bullseye) or a similar/derived distribution?
If you have, which wine package did you use, what is you graphics card driver, and did you use any winetricks or other tweaks? For me on Debian 11 with the winehq-devel package from here (https://wiki.winehq.org/Download) and nvidia proprietary drivers from debian non-free I get a crash on startup.
edit: (using Falcon 4 from gog.com. works fine on Windows)
(vanilla Falcon 4 works fine with wine)BMS 4.35.1 works on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with wine-staging 6.7. Later versions of wine-staging will probably work also. Run
winetricks dxvk
before
wine Launcher.exe
I’m using a regular Intel i7 that is several years old with an nvidia graphics card

Flying Mig 21 scramble missions in the new Vietnam theater
I’m just starting to explore the amazing new Vietnam 4.35.1 theater that was released a couple days ago.
I think that in real life, most MiG missions during the Vietnam war were scrambled to intercept a US strike, rather than, e.g., pre-scheduled BARCAP missions. How can I arrange to fly scramble missions, rather than picking a mission from the list?
Also, since the MiG 21 in the Vietnam theater is using the default F16 cockpit, should I turn off the MFD and HUD displays for maximum realism?

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Running BMS on Linux/WINE with opentrack HOWTO
Another small update, I’ve tried Wine 6.6 (Fedora rpms), opentrack crash is fixed, but somehow mouse doesn’t work in a pit at all, ie no cursor unable to click anything I guess we have to wait a lil’ bit longer for Wine releasse good for BMS.
As usual, pls post your experience with Wine releases available for your distro. It might help others to decide if they wanna stick with what wine they have or upgrade.I see the mouse problem in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with winehq-staging, which currently is wine-6.6 (Staging).
When I switch to winehq-devel, which is currently wine-6.6, the mouse works correctly.

RE: What can you do besides flying to improve campaign outcome
1. Don’t let the HQ control the frag of the missions, control the mission generation with the priorities sliders and adjust them according to the situation and the requirements to win.
2. Take control of the ground troops and lead them to capture the required objectives in order to win the campaign.
3. If you take control from the HQ and you are not satisfied with the generated missions, frag your own missions on your preferred targets. Thanks for your reply. How do you take control of ground troops?

What can you do besides flying to improve campaign outcome
It’s easy for a casual player to think of BMS campaign as a random mission generator. But of course it is much more than that. What can you do in campaign besides flying that helps your side win?

RE: Cougar's condition…...and thanks for your support
I’m sorry you’re going through this, Cougar. Rehabilitation will be important. I’m no expert, but from what I’ve read there are dietary changes that can improve a cardiac prognosis:

RE: [UNOFFICIAL] Running BMS on Linux/WINE with opentrack HOWTO
Thanks for this - headtracking on linux is something I have yet to tackle.
I didn’t see anything about hardware in this thread. What hardware has been tested? Is this something that works with a webcam alone? Can I use a TrackIR5? What hardware is recommended?

RE: Iran-Iraq war theater
I guess the biggest issue is lack of F-16s in that arrangement. Outside that issue, it sounds like you have a good argument for.
Do you know how to make a theatre?
No, I don’t know how to make a theater, nor do I have time to work on this now. However I thought someone else might be interested in working on this real-life war. True, there were no F16’s, but you have mavericks for ground attack and F5’s and F14’s, so you get to use modern avionics.
I don’t think there’s a need to introduce fantasy elements into this theater. For the reasons I mentioned, I think the Iran-Iraq war was the real-life war most similar to the original F4 Korea fantasy campaigns. For challenge and immersion, the more realistic the Iran-Iraq theater can be, the better.

Iran-Iraq war theater
The 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is a rare case of two equally matched, technologically advanced countries fighting a long war which either side could have won.
On the Iran side, you have F4’s, F5’s and F14’s, with some F14’s configured as bombers thanks to bomb racks provided by the US under the Iran-Contra arrangement.
On the Iraq side are Mirage F-1s and the Soviet MiG-25s, as well as other French and Soviet aircraft.
This was an intense and protracted war featuring air, ground, sea and ballistic missile units which would be a good fit for BMS simulation capabilities.
Do you think it would be worthwhile to make an Iran-Iraq war theater for BMS?
