@Icarus:
I have had good luck with that. I do periodic install/check/uninstall with other anti virus and malware programs to check if MSE is working and never get any viruses show up in three years. No issues here.
Same here, I’ve never used any anti virus software in the 20 years or so using windows platforms basically only as a gaming / sim launcher. The recent “Locky & friends” encrypting virus / trojan disaster has clearly shown that most AV vendors really only have their own bank accounts in mind instead of their customer’s security as they’ve been unable to keep the sig dbs up to date to play catch-up with self-modifying, mutating code.
One of our customers had six Locky incidents in a single month. Do they use AV? Sure! Did it help? No. Do they educate their users and allow them use the right tools for the job? Apparently not. 😜
Add to that the inconvenience of scans being scheduled at the worst possible moment, exessive use of system resources (i/o, cpu) and plain refusal to being uninstalled and wiped from a system cleanly and it’s easy to see why one shouldn’t touch AV software with anything less than a 10 foot pole. 😉
Click carefully, use a proper browser with noscript, flashblock and ublock origin and you should be good to go. If you’re really paranoid boot some custom linux distro off of a stick from time to time and run a check from there.
All the best, Uwe
