Not keeping up .
-
I was just flying BMS with the my squadron and for some reason I can’t keep up. It is only when I play on line. I checked my hotas setting and everything check out fine.
I have Nvidia Geforce 1070 gtx I just installed new drivers update 387.92 which came out 10/9/17. it isn’t my lead . He will say speed and were both in the same setting CAS KTs
Just wondering if its the new drivers .
Thanks -
With what can’t you keep up?
Your graphics driver definitly won’t make you fly faster.
Did you check your Airbrakes?

GPU or drivers shouldn’t be an issue. What FPS are you getting? Hardware specs have no impact on airspeed, why should it? What’s your internet connection speed? Could it be lag since it’s only happening online?

Air Brakes?
Manual Flaps?
Loadout differential?
-
Forgive me for the stupid-looking question, but… did you check if your throttle is working?
I have exactly your same hardware + drivers combo and I have no problem in keeping up, except when leader is hurry after a single ship takeoff. -
What squadron? Ruled out any FM editing?

ThanksHi,
From my own experience, and I think also of my squadron mates, it’s usual for a wingman or Element member to feel like the flight lead is running. I think it takes simply more practice and experience to learn to fly close formation as wingman, and also for the lead to be aware that his airspeed may cause wingmen to have a hard time keeping up.
GFX drivers are for sure not related, as technically physics isn’t related AT ALL to the rendering. The physical code keeps moving the objects in space according to the physics of the sim, and the rendering engine just render them at the correct position/orientation, not the other way around…

A long long time ago, I flew a mission and I wanted to quit this with an AAR before landing…
And what follows, was the same behavior like in the OP:
I was near the tanker, maybe 2 miles out, but as much as I pressed the thrust controller forward I wasn’t able to get nearer to the tanker as ~200 meters, even with AB. And I then checked the brakes…2c

here’s a trick when you can’t keep up with your lead
go zero g (bunt forward) and see how fast the jet accelerates. then keep up and recover the loss of altitude
the loaded F-16 accelerates like a pig under 300 kts. stay above 300 and whenever you need to accelerate, use the 0g trickby the Viperdrivers the wingman who uses AB for rejoin because he doesn’t use the zero G trick gets his dessert confiscated the following night

Thank you, for your replies I didn’t think about throttle management like Red Dog suggested. Everybody that replied thank you.

As a flight lead it’s also important to realize that you are a unit of 2 or 4 F-16s and that you’re not flying alone. Flying in formation with an inexperienced lead that’s constantly speeding up and slowing down for no good reason is a tremendous pain in in the rear.
-
I thought that’s why you have contract speeds?

Unless they either get ignored by said lead or the situation calls for a change in plans all together. After all, what plan ever survives contact with the enemy?
