4.33.1 will release shortly: what you need to know and how to be prepared
-
I get it Bluwolf, Arty, et al., I get it, you have valid points even if I don’t agree with them and will probably become more hashed out when we actually get the release. So please let’s get to some more important bitching, it has been almost 48 hours, why has it not been released yet?!?!
-
Its the fact it makes the drive less tidy.
Maybe you need to work on your OCD. Just a little.

Crikey…£2 on GOG…TWO QUID!
Personally, I think this amounts to the best bargain in PC game history. It’s like buying an old Fiat or something, and the dealership telling you that you get a Bugatti Veyron thrown in as a thanks for your business.
Precisly what I feel about this!
All the best and good luck in finishing the update guys!
Falcon Bms forever!

Nope. Sophisticated DRM software needn’t be that size, although its attendant libraries might come close. Even if it did, what I was advocating was not sophisticated DRM, just relying on the simple Steam API (for example) to query public account information. Barely even kilobytes.
Which would leave behind everybody who bought a Microprose CD back in 1998.

Thats not the case, as mentioned above.
-
Just bought 3 from GOG to give away as gifts to support the new owners. Great to see progress being made.

The requirement is that everyone who installs and uses Falcon BMS owns a legitimate copy of the original Falcon 4.0 game by some means. Mechanism for how any checking is done on that requirement is not up for discussion (save your breath, really ;)). However the team reserves the right to modify this over time, should that seem prudent, to preserve the team’s ability to continue making Falcon BMS releases.

Seriously, won’t you stop bitching about it?
It is the first time ever a Falcon 4 modding group is officially allowed by the legal owner to edit data AND source code. I think that is the best outcome which could happen.
Technical stuff to keep it that way should be the less of our worries.

TBH I’d chalk that up to a win for BMS and modding teams in general. Similar to how Valve gave the BlackMesa team its blessing.
Best Regards,
Fulcrum

Do we seriously need to have falcon 4.0 installed every time we start falcon bms ? This has no sense. If we installed Falcon BMS we should have Falcon 4.0 so why checking it every time ? Why do I have to keep 500 mb of old (pardon me) crap installed ?
This has no point, but okay… I still don’t get what we’ll get from this agreement though. A brand new splash screen and the ability to keep updating Falcon BMS… wow… so the agreement was actually forced. Nice one Tommo !
Nice to see 4.32 and 4.33 both disappeared from the download section…
-
So its not hacker’s nest anymore…? We need independent forum modding this mod.
-
If this little change causes that big crying around, what will happen if someday a really new version of BMS cames out and EVERYTHING that has been added in the past isn´t able to work with it (theater, tiles, and so on) because of a new code and engine? Spending a few bucks for a working Falcon 4 version can´t be this huge problem… Why can´t we just enjoy what has been given to us? Why do we alsways have to nag around on everything?

I think Switch said it perfectly :

Exactly!
Guys who are suspicious about all that, look at this “affair” as a whole to get a bigger picture:
-Falcon BMS, and in the past other Falcon projects, based on a source code which got leaked in probably not-so-official way.
-Up until recently, the only way of obtaining legal copy of Falcon 4.0 was a second-hand copy. They were sparse, and in case of some more remote countries, shipping costs could be several times more than the box itself (which could sometimes be quite expensive, due to age and “collector value”).
An now, we have:
-The BMS Team got an official green light from the new owner of the Falcon IP to continue working on enhancing Falcon, being no longer in the legal grey-area.
-The Falcon 4.0 itself is available worldwide at a bargain price on two digital distribution platforms, several bucks and few minutes of downloading away from ending on our hard drives.
And we’re arguing about disk space, modders being toasted and ways to “enhance” legality check?!

I seem to miss the essence of some of the debate going on here.
A bunch of guys are creating/ enhancing/ improving BMS voluntarily and on their spare time…as well as negotiate with the legal owner of Falcon 4.0 so all of us can continue to enjoy this exquisite sim…and…and…
Life is simple: just say thank you and wait for the update.
Yup…that’s my only grievance with this thread…it’s not fast enough lol.
So…THANK YOU for a job well done !!! -
We’ll see… if they can bring out very great enhancements out of this, great. Otherwise it’s clear that Tommo messed it up.
Just try not to get too much carried away from this. What about the modders ? We’ll see that too.
Sincerely, I don’t trust Tommo.
EDIT @POLARISI basically to continue developing they had to make an agreement with Tommo. That’s going backwards, and I blame Tommo for it entirely. This is clearly not a complaint to the BMS team itself.
Eagle Dynamics messed it up badly with the new EDGE engine and bad communication (no one cares about people having performance issues, great), do we have to see another mess up ?

Thank you BMS for all your hard work.
Its hard to believe people are whining about this. Sad really, crying over 150mb. -

Don’t like it, don’t have to use it. Stop whining.
