Another Hall Sensor upgrade

How did you did it?
So far I’ve identified where most of the slop comes from.
The slop on mine is mainly from where the bottom of the stick rides in a race track shaped gimbal part. There is (hard to see in the photo) a good 0.7-1mm gap where it has worn. I’ve filed it smooth and polished it with some Autosol metal polish, and I plan to apply some glossy head shrink then cover it in a grease of sorts. I thought about teflon/PTFE tape again but I don’t know how I’d get it to reliably stick.
The second main area is the shaft that goes through the stick base and gimbal. The hole in the gimbal has warn and is too big now for the 3mm shaft.
In all areas that have moving parts, I have smoothed and polished mating parts:
In the second image, I didn’t dare remove any more material hence why it is still scratched. Once I have the heatshrink applied I may be able to remove more to get it mirror like.
I’m going to take them into the technology dept at work and have them drill them out to 6Wx2D mm do I can fit some 3x6x2mm bearings in the stick and gimbal. I’ll hold them in place with green loctite and a couple of washers. This should get rid of most of the slop. I just need to decide on what to do with the springs, then I need to reinvestigate the TQS and replace the ANT pot. I should have a relatively usable Cougar then

Update for Miles.
Have been perfecting AAR and formation flying, and has been really enjoyable with the Hall sensor in the TQS……
thank you Miles…!!
I confirm. This mod is excellent ! Thanks a lot, Miles

I did fixed mine almost zero gap from idle to start but another issue came up.
At the point the ab kicks in, and physically jumping the Rings the readings are way violent and it’s kinda low ab and full ab.
Hmmmmmm
Oh don’t be alerted that much as I have the shifted ab commands and maybe those cause the issue.
I’ll try to disable them as they might not be needed anymore. But I’ll have to re position the Rings. Darn….

PM sent Mines on the 5v board, woohoo! My cougar is only #2795 so quite old. I think I’ve been lucky…

Sorry to be a pest, MilesD. Just wondering if you got my PM and are still producing these kits please?
-
I am sorry guys, Its been a really busy month with no time to work on the sensor kits. I have not even been able to get back to PMs. I will be back home on Tuesday and plan on doing another production run. Thank you for all of your patience. I am supposed to be retired and just working on this stuff, but life keeps getting in the way.

Nice to hear you again MilesD, and keep waiting for your wonderful kits (hoping for the cougar stick force sensing mod).

Certainly no reason you should have to feel pressure once you retire. Figure all things come to those who wait so take your time Sir.

Thanks Miles

Hi MilesD,
Any chance a new production run will happen in 2017?
Could use some spares just in caseGrtz

His inbox is full and can’t accept new messages. I sent him an email from his Youtube videos ([email protected]) and did not receive a reply. I even sent him a text message and didn’t get a response from that either (he posted his cell number either in this thread or the one on the DCS thread regarding his Hall sensor mods).
Sadly no one can reach him. I would love to buy some of his Hall mods too. Hope he comes back one day.

Excellent post Planehazza … how you explain, that 0.5 - 1mm play on the mechanics translates to 1-2cm play on stick on top! So correct.

i solved this problem in “unconventional” ways (ball bearing 4 axis gimbal)

MilesAre you OK Miles?

Hey Miles, hope all is well. I am interested in a throttle Hall sensor if you are still producing them. Thanks for your work on this project.

Seems like he’s fine but too busy to do any sensor mods right now. I too hope he does another run. Missed my chance to mod my kit back in the day, now my throttle pot is drifting all over the place.

Someone with a 3D printer could easily duplicate them. Technically, a 10% change or “improvement” is considered a new design, if there was a patent in play.

I might just look into this……
