Really low FPS help

My FPS drops as low as 120 in the latest BMS with low CPU and GPU utilization and wondering if there is anything I can do.
System:
GPU: TITAN RTX - 2175 MHz, liquid cooled
CPU: 9900K 5.4 GHz, liquid cooled / MB: ASUS Maximus XI Gene
RAM: G.Skill 16GB 4600 MHz

DISPLAY: LG 38GL950GThe ability to push very high FPS is not only limited by hardware and operating environment, but also the software. Provided that you are not experiencing any throttling issues with your storage device in the event that consistently streaming data is triggering a slowdown, you could safely assume you are at or near “as good as it gets” for this particular software. Keep in mind, not all software is designed for extremely high FPS, it always depends on the title. Could be that you have found that ballpark for BMS. Could also be that some refined settings in the nVidia Control panel may help to a degree, or even making sure you are up-to-date with the latest nVidia drivers for that $2.5k video card.
Have you observed the boost state of the Titan during gameplay? Is it dropping from the boost clock to standard frequency during these dips to 120FPS? Are you running any Sync settings in the CP and/or with your display? Is the CPU working with a fixed multiplier or are you allowing it to boost as it needs to? And if not running an OC, are you noticing the CPU jump down from it’s turbo boost speeds during the 120FPS dips? Is the power mode in your Windows environment set to a high performance mode? ← same question for nVidia CP, GPU performance mode

Really low FPS help
My FPS drops as low as 120 in the latest BMS ….
Wait? What?
‘As low as 120 ….’ ?!?! And you need ‘help’ with ‘really low FPS’?
Consider yourself blessed.
I think you’re being sarcastic and this is really a ‘look at my new system specs’ post.
In which case, “Great system specs dude. Congrats.”

↑ maybe… But someone who spends that kind of money may be forgiven for wondering why Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA:V are both pinned at 150FPS on their fancy 240Hz (read: max 240FPS) display, or maybe ‘only’ 120FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 4K… Sometimes, it’s just a limit of the title no matter how much cash you throw at it - and sometimes, it’s a genuine “why am I not getting all the FPS all the time with this much OP?”. Actually kinda odd for anyone to expect dips of any kind, and didn’t mention dipping from what.
Otherwise, got me - and I walked right into it! Crazy system - if it was only powered by a Ryzen 3950X*, I’d say it’s the peak of high end gaming PC’s (*unless ONLY playing one game and doing nothing else is always the goal), nothing left above it but nearly useless SLI, or the HEDT realm of “money is no object, seriously”.

You guys are funny! The reason I posted was a few years ago when I played BMS I thought I had higher FPS with obviously slower machine. I have a 3840x1600 G-Sync monitor at 175 Hz, so I wish I could run BMS a bit faster.
As for the 3950X, my 5.4 GHz 9900K will be faster than it for games 99.9% of the time. I don’t do any video editing or anything that utilize a ton of cores, so going with AMD would actually be slower for like 99.9% of my usage.

lol lol and lol this is serius drama here

Well actually u r funny man. U increase vertical resolution to 1600 and hz to 175 and you want to have more than 120 fps.
I mention vertical only cause it’s more painful for vga to cope with.
Lower your resolution or what mav-jp told you to get higher fps. And if you have 55fps more what’s the difference? You will not be able to count all the bullets coming out of the Vulcan?
U r exaggerating man. Even your eye can’t tell the difference from 120 to 175. Hardly you would understand the difference from 90fps to 120fps.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T818A using Tapatalk

I was thinking that very same thing . . . With my system I’m getting 80 - 90 FPS with most of the bells and whistles turned on and that seems to work just fine to me

That is entirely subjective! Everyone is NOT created equal - we all have different physical reaction times, and varying levels of visual acuity and perception. And the type of display enters into it as well, in addition to display mode features, etc.

Yes we are. Read again what I wrote please.

If the the fps counter was not invented he would not post ,his perception is that he sees 120 fps not that his game is not fluent . Difference between 120 fps or 175 or 90 is not the subject here nor the capability of a person that in human eye above 60 fps the difference is hardly noticable .

Reducing resolution to 800600 or 640480 may help.

reaction time at 8ms ?
ROFLMAO

hi all,
my fps sometimes rise as high as 12 (twelve).
best regards. -

ROFLMAO
actually, I was referring to physical reaction times, where the human average is around 180ms. Was said above, kinda derailing this thread going down that road… just so you don’t think I’m completely insane, I’ll say that I’m on about the fact that some folks by nature and even by the display they use will be able to notice things on nearly a Tyler Durden film cut “couple frames are wrong” level, usually ending up in a different “feel” over a short time if not immediately perceptible. A display is only a massive technological magic trick to make us think we’re observing a moving reality, as we all know. Constantly dropping or skipping frames, going from a high rate to a lower rate (a jump of more than 40FPS) are all well tested and shown to be perceptible to certain players consistently. Apples and oranges comparing a twitch-game about spinning around and leveling crosshairs on an attacker versus a flight sim, but the general concept stands. We’re not created equal, and what feels smooth and unchanging to one person can be due to a number of individual personal factors even if that person is capable of detecting the different.
Talking everything from distractions of input in the game, tasks they are performing at the time, and the general distraction of the mind (or lack thereof) as our mind occasionally wanders SQUIRREL!! to places we’re not focused on. The only point to buy better gear and to tinker in our control panel options, and in-game graphics options, etc. is to correct and improve the magic tricks that fool our eyes. If we notice we’re not getting fooled properly, it’s back to the drawing board. You could drop to a low frame state and not know “why” the game feels different now, plenty enough to distract us from that if we don’t want to allow ourselves to be pulled out of any current immersion in a given game - but the fact stands that depending on the person/gear, the brain can tell, and that can translate to feel or sometimes visually noticeable changes.
I tell you, every single time I get some rare driver fail to where my 144Hz panel gets dropped in the OS to 75 or 90, I notice within a few seconds. (luckily learned a method to re-init it without restarting windows 10). We’re not all equal in perception. And that video game you’re watching is not moving at all - just a ton of 2 dimensional pictures coming at you to trick your eyes. Technology and improvements in it, and the money spent do develop it, are not wasted after we reached the 120Hz TN panel.

I can definitely feel the difference between 60 FPS on my 4k and 144 FPS on my 1080p monitor, but I don’t feel there’s any appreciable value in the increase over 60FPS for a flight sim especially if you’re using trackir. Lol at Really Low at 120 FPS Congrats on your super rig.
