Waste of time

Spent 2 hours writing down the 3 sweeps for pre-flight, was excited to just do ground school tonight, fired up BMS for the first time and although track IR was set up automatically, my Thrustmaster t-1600, WCS, and peddles, OMG, NIGHTMARE! Budgeted an hour and a half for some progress with TARGET, unsuccessful. DCS sooo much easier to use. I don’t care about the 7 bucks for 4.0, the wasted 4 hours sucks though. Just too damn frustrating with the controls, oh well. Back to DCS.
Edit 3/3 I should apologize to the developers and enthusiasts that I’m sure have way more than four hours vested. I do apologize I was frustrated and impulsive. I grew up playing Strike Commander with the speech pack on 5.25’s, Falcon 3.0, and controller voodoo back before plug and play. I took off about twenty years from gaming and purchased the hardware and DCS over Christmas: plug, play, and forget about it. I was checking out DCS tutorial videos on YouTube when I saw some impressive BMS videos, I’m sure I’ll give it another chance in a couple of weeks, with the proper attitude. Thanks for your devotion to the sim. Peace and sidewinders! -
Wow, four hours and out. The sacrifice…

Then don’t use Target.
Just program/setup the stick in the Falcon/BMS Setup Controller Pages.
AND Advanced -> Flight Control & Avionics Tabs

So DCS is better than Target?
That’s a bold call…

TARGET’s the same beast no matter what software you’re running. BMS isn’t as user friendly on the control setup compared DCS (unless you’re doing some tricky stuff in which case DCS is worse). Provided you know your way around TARGET and the airplane, actually setting up BMS is a tractable problem for that time frame. Of course most people are learning the F-16, BMS, and TARGET all ta-once which makes it frustrating.
It’s no threat to say “Oh well back to DCS.” If you aren’t smart or disciplined enough to figure out what thousands already have, that’s on you. Your attempts to shame software is just juvenile. You want help, you’ll get it. Otherwise skip the touch and go and just low approach. Our airspace is better off.

Had and still have the same issue with DCS. Whenever I fire up DC’s I just navigate for a few minutes.
So same in both.
It just needs time. U’ve spend the time on DCS and now it’s a different logic and needs time for Falcon.
So if u have time and will guys here will make it super easy for you.
You can do it your self also but I understand that now everything seems like u landed on Mars.
I feel the same way with DCS.
So take a breath and dive in. The excitement and fun afterwards will pay off greatly, and when time comes and u recall this u will laugh, and say oh dear…Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

OP that attitude will get you nowhere but outside of the fora. Luckily our members are nice enough to want to help you even though your first post was a rant and not a nice post about asking for help.

Ah so you’re looking for complexity in a sim but you rage quit on the complexity of setting up a joystick and then register on the boards for this one single post telling us how it all is not your fault ?
Take a good look in the mirror and ask people for help next time. Check the input devices section of the forum or have fun in DCS. -
Another proof that the main issue for newbies is not bms but the understanding of their own controller setup
-
I fly keyboard 70%…do the same at the begining…and enjoy your sweep

And confirmation that having an updated range of ready-made HOTAS config setups in the next version will help flatten the learning curve for those with limited time, or attention spans

The right rudder toe pedal is for gas, and the left one is your brake, yeah?
-
Actually I find dcs controller setup a major pita.
Regardless another victim of bms vetting…thow are not worthy OP.

Yep, but
my Thrustmaster t-1600, WCS, and peddles,
taking into account all possibilities will not be practical
knowing your hardware is the primary step to any flight sim use gents, if you can’t manage your own controller how can you expect to manage the flight sim itself?

Absolutely, though having a basic setup does help speed up the process and give you something to build on. I certainly found Dunc’s setup gave me a great platform to get to grips with the basics, understand what was important and then I was clear on what I wanted to change.
I agree that’s the best we can offer, as there are so many different combinations of controllers, as you pointed out, that sooner or later new users are going to have to customise things for themselves to get the most from their setup.

Let me see…guy is upset because it took him 4 hours to figure out his controller setup? Lol, wait until he starts reading the manuals! He obviously isn’t ready for a “study” sim.

Correct and I’m guessing his dcs experience is with the shallow end of the pool with the FC jets.
Also entertaining he tried a mission before learning to actually fly the jet.

Come on lets see it from Gravy’s side - when your only 11 years old 4 hours is a long time !!!
