Ff you could have one thing in the next update it would be…

I can say that I fly up my wingmans afterburner close as shit and no problems.
We are on the other side of the worlds so I never had a problem with this as long as everyone your flying with has a solid connection. -
As per your helpfully stated request, we (the entire community) have started the creation of such a list, hosted publicly, and editable by all.
Contributions are welcome. Ive started with the first two pages of the BMS-Manual.pdf so far.
For convenience sake, Id like to host a copy of the BMS-Manual.pdf file at the same location, but the inside front cover specifically prohibits this. At least, without written permission from the BMS DOC team.
Could you start a new thread at Documentation Forum?

would that help?

MorteSil,
I am really not known to be omnipresent in this forum here but I just want to throw in some thoughts. We know that the input system is likely one of the most crucial parts of the sim.
No input = no flying = no joy.We had quite some lessons to learn after the 4.33 update when the new key files etc. have been introduced.
We also know that a simple way of getting the devices to work (preferably out of the box) is of major importance.
I can assure you that most of the stuff discussed here (easy device setup, ready to use profiles, basic function descriptions…)
is been worked on as we speak. But, there is no one size fits it all solution.
We read a lot of complaints and quite often it comes to our attention that people are not willing to read what has been offered.
This is highly frustrating!Want an example?
Stuck keys is an issue reported quite frequently.
If you read the reports it is
a) 99.9% user error
b) 99.9% of a) have obviously missed the advices in the manualsWe’ve spent hundreds of hours writing manuals. I think it is just a matter of respect to take a couple of minutes reading them.
So, the manual you request is in the works. Shall I predict the future?
Users will have questions.
First, you will patiently answer any question until you learn that they have NOT read the manuals.
You read more complaints about various things regarding input devices. Over and over again.
Have you read the manuals?
No (of course not).
Ok, my answer is: Check your Docs folder, subfolder xy, abc manual, page 1234Wanna bet?
-
instead of a text manual, my advice would be make a VISUAL REFERENCE, like official tutorial video series, which is up to date. Official means first party.
If you don’t read, you are doomed, in general, in life- but for players born after the new millenium visual aides would not only be helpful but are borderline, requirements. I love your manuals, they are in depth and complete, if you read them with the veracity of a predator you will know everything there is to know about the systems, weapon employment, and even flight techniques and some history of the jet. If you neglect them you will constantly feel like you are under the bell of a learning curve.

Yes, we are familiar with the “game”.
I hardly believe anyone could miss the docs folder as it is:
- a direct sub folder of the main BMS install folder
- displayed as a link in the launcher
However, we try our best to get even better, promised.
-
Not sure the “new guys” click Instant Action because they want to blow stuff. I think they want to know if they will like what they do when they’ll start to feel comfortable… before they start to spend hours learning stuff. Not sure either, how to help them. I suppose “gameplay” videos like some us are producing helps a little bit in giving an insight about “how it will be when it gets really nice”. There’s a trailer for each BMS version if I remember correctly. What about more footage with comms and eyes on MFD, and a bit less flares dropping? It’s not just about the graphics, is it?

When you get around to flying the Tomcat with electronic battlefield pit, PM me. I’ve fixed the Phoenix missiles to work correctly (i’ve fixed a lot of things on this to sound/work correctly).
This includes:-Smokeless motor for C model, with contrail.
-Thrust values for A and C model (the slower motors) extrapolated by Heatblur’s team
-Accurate lofting values based on published altitudes and speeds
-Accurate terminal dive values to take advantage of potential energy (based on theorized impact velocities)However, still can’t change BMS’ missile lead calculations (just lead the target manually when you fire).
Hit me up if interested.

This is DEFINITIVELY community’s job.
BMS provides reference manuals (remeber the time when ppl were complaining not having up to date complete and extensive tech manual/description?) Now they have them. We even provides some training TE with documented explanations! (Which other modern combat flight sim are still providing the same level of documentation?)
Follow Krause’s path … And go for video tutorials if you think it is the way to go.
Anytime after the release.

I propose the following:
Once BMS is installed … Open a window EXPLAINING WHERE ALL THE DOCS & MANUALS ARE LOCATED. INTO “…/Falcon BMS 3.3x/Docs” folder.
Start a one week timer and don’t allow the soft to start before each .PDF has been opened at least ONCE.
…
THEN (one week later) … Before allowing the first access to the main UI, pop up a dialogue box with about 10 random questions about BMS’s basics. (Avionics, cockpit, ui … Etc …)Ppl will NEVER be able to complain again that they never found the Docs … impossible to miss it!
Edit:
To make it more “self explain” / visible, maybe we should rename the
“Docs” folder
… into …
“Documentation & Manuals”
… Maybe easier to understand (?) probably more visible.

On the other hand there is a slight probabilty of having something better than this in 3 to 4 weeks.

Not to mention the Documentation area of these forums.
You tube / Google are your friends….between Krauss, Supernova, Unleashed Code, Lorik, Crash Laobi there is probably not one topic not discussed (watching someone just stream a mission you can learn a lot). There might be some in the weeds odd details that are not discussed, but that is few and far between.
-
But no one from BMS, including Red Dog, or you, ever said in all these years that they were interested in anyone else helping with the documentation, so don’t give me your attitude like I should know to offer help.
And what about offering some help rather than waiting somebody requesting it if you think that Doc deserve it (?) … Or is it better to sit down and wait for someone else do the stuff? I know I know … I refused to write a doc about Taxi Branch recently. But Maybe also because I am already spending “all my nights” on working on a different area.
Making a list of all acronyms found on the documentation could be a good start … could be an impulse for what you are asking/proposing.
Doesn’t make sense? …
I don’t need acronym descriptions … you guys are proposing/requesting it.
…
Ok … fair enough.
So I do actually state that we (the entire community) ARE interested in a list (alphabetically sorted) of all acronyms present on BMS manuals and annexes …
If it is not used by Red Dog (up to him to see what he can do with it, such as a glossary or something like this!?) at least it will be helpful for anybody who like to explain each of them (directly on a separated docs or using link to BMS manuals) … up to him/them.
This is not something difficult to do. Read the doc (few page per days) … list on a Word Pad each acronym. Then, once done, filter them using any search tool … keep only one per each, finally, list them in alphabetical order using Excel tool or any other soft …
The listing can also be EASILY made by several ppl in sort of team to be quicker. No need to know how to use LOD Editor, or no need to know 3DSMax … no need to know C++
Jut need to know how to open a PDF and how to save a Word Pad file, and of course, have someone to start it … and coordinate it.
…
up.

b) 99.9% of a) have obviously missed the advices in the manualsI apologize I said it was not on the manual, It was on the “Falcon BMS Key File Manual”. I’m Sorry for RedDog and Docs team.
Still, If not implemented to stuck by design, I wish this to be taken away because it is noted on the manual that it is an “issue”. Or we need to note “You can call DX shifted callbacks without holding pinky by using this stuck feature”.
For acronym list, I don’t think its necessary. Dash-1 is already describing HOTAS acronym meaning and functions.
Current problem is that information is separated to several manuals. Dash-1, BMS-Manual and Key File Manual. Thankfully Doc Team is working on a dedicated chapter so in 3-4 weeks new user can find what they need to assign first is their HOTAS, find how to assign them, and they can proceed to BMS-Training to learn how they functions.

I know that this has been discussed about heavily on here but I believe vr would be a huge addition to BMS. From a technical perspective, I just wanted to know if this is possible and if so what are the challenges to make this happen?
I read a few of the post discussing vr support on this forum and it receives a lot of negative reaction. Yes, it’s early and somewhat pricey technology but a lot of people on here have invested a ton in hardware already and the technology is maturing. Prices are already starting to be reasonable.
Someone called it a fad and said mixed reality is the future. I tried google Hololens the other day and it is nothing like vr, not even close. Mixed reality is a long way before coming to the average consumer and I don’t believe it will ever be as immersive as virtual reality. VR literally puts you in the game. Mixed reality creates 3D renderings in your environment by projecting the renderings on a lens. It just doesn’t come close, at least not now and not for a while.
That same day I tried VTOL VR with oculus (yes I know it’s nothing like a simulator) but the vr experience was incredible, it really feels like you’re in the cockpit flying and hitting switches.
Imagine a similar feeling in falcon. VR gloves are already in work so I wouldn’t be surprised if we were able to interact with the VR world with our hands in the next year or 2. I’m sure developers will find ways to incorporate vr with physical hardware (like a HOTAS) as well. Theses issues will most likely be addressed and a decent solution will come eventually.
Bottom line, like it or not VR is here now and will only get better. So with that said I guess it boils down to one question… Why isn’t VR support for bms seriously considered?

But there are an awful lot of new players who don’t even know the Docs folder exists, I see it all the time in the forums.
There is a link to the Manuals and Documentation on the Launcher?! Maybe this link needs to be at the top of the list, and the Launch link two-thirds of the way down? Then the forums can be full of ‘can’t start the sim’ instead of ‘can’t find the manuals and docs’ complaints.

Depends… do you really want to be teaching a rookie the best way to use cluster bombs is to fly low, straight and level over an enemy column while mashing the pickle button on multiple occassions?
