Stealthy MiG 29A in Instant Action?

Okay, I upgraded to U5 (I believe), but BMS says still 4.33.1 (bottom right corner). Is this normal? Can I see my current version or run the update istallers again?

The update verification string should read: Falcon BMS 4.33.5 BUILD 16084. If it doesn’t, something must have gone wrong. Make sure you are thoroughly familiar with the installation/update procedure, as described in the Release/Update section.

Okay, I will run all updates again…

And you have a right to be so, don’t be intimidated by anyone trying to make you feel bad because you ask questions.
This is nothing to do with “intimidating” people so much as it is being tired of seeing people come here with the assumption that it is either a problem with the program or “normal” abnormal behavior. Never once was the assumption made that he didn’t know enough. If the new guys and gals that decide to learn something this complicated automatically came at it assuming they had made the mistake and needed to learn more and posed questions that way you wouldn’t see responses like mine.

I suppose you feel concerned about my statement, it’s a good thing already.
I already made my comment about Instant Action.
Take care.

?? Hmm, darn, you’re an expert on IA, and there’s really nothing to be learned with/by it?? :?
Good to know!!!

Heh. My guess is Lorik sensed a brother in arms, as it were. I remember when Lorik was the FNG and he posted a video complaining about something being wrong when in fact he had managed to deep stall his aircraft and didn’t know what he had done. At least in his case it wasn’t the much more mundane FCR.

Back on track, sungad, if you install the free version of TacView and try the mission again (make sure to record it with the AVTR system) you can visually verify altitude differences and lateral distances. Simply put, if the target is not within the limits of where the FCR is currently searching, outside the gimbals, it won’t see the target. I suspect that that has happened here, but we can’t be sure unless we know where the 29 was.

In the first post in this thread is screenshot with a (faint) red rectangle in the picture. This is where the four MiGs were. They were not that far away, they were barely visible at 80° FOV on a 4K screen with smart scaling on.
My FCR was set to TWS with the scan area slewed to the left (where the MiGs were). Here is the picture (slightly cropped) again. The MiGs are in the extreme top left of the picture. From other angles than from head on (side, rear) the MiGs are detected so I could engage them from behind.

Glad you’re still posting here.
I’ll try to sum my feelings up here.1. Difficut to say if your radar is currently configured correctly to spot the contacts. It’s scanning 02-25 at 20 miles; I wouldn’t assume too much about the exact position of the -29, altitude wise in particular; your answer could be there. Planehazza already hinted in that direction. But you implied you knew this kind of things from other experiences, so I’ll assume they’re really likely to be in the conus. Also, you’re mentioning the -29’s attitude. If they are beaming (showing you one of their side), they will be hard to spot, not to say invisible, because that’s how Doppler radars work. But you seem to say it is not the case.
2. Instant Action and Dogfight modes aren’t necessarily given the love you’d expect to draw conclusions from what you experience there. I can’t say for this matter in particular, but don’t use it to test things extensively. You’re saying your problems start with a a particular “wave” of fighters, if I understood correctly. This is rather evocative of something related to the game mode more than anything, provided you’re not experiencing one of the above.Let us know how it is in TE and campaigns. Anyway, it’s in the latter you’ll want to spend time

You could fly MP and I’m sure someone can help you get to the bottom of it; lots of experienced fliers out there.

From the screenshot, in my opinion, there is no way they were in the radar cone, especially in TWS 3 bars.

I just don’t think there’s anyway we can prove it either way from that image. Scaling, resolution, jpg compression… they all affect the visual size of the target, which I can’t even see within the image. You could argue that the bandit is at FL200 at 30nm, but you really don’t know that for sure with out an ACMI. You need to know those precisely to tell whether it’s within the cone or note.

Crap, I was looking at his radar wrong. disregard previous comment.
You can put labels on, go in again and confirm the distance, freeze and do another test.
-
I think I got it where I can state it properly this time.
Your alt at 13,420 gives scan of 22/5 at 20 miles. That gives 18/9 at 10 miles. And 16/11 at 5 miles. _If he is close, and in your screenshot I see he is high.
All he would have to be is at alt 17,000 at 5 miles and you don’t get the return.
Or him at 19,0000 at 10 miles.I can see either being very possible._

I can tell you from personal experience that the first round of Mig-29’s “spawn” at 30k. So considering his radar scan area, the OP does not have his FCR pointed in the correct elevation to detect the Migs.

Agreed, Well then if they were at 23,000+ at 20 miles he wouldn’t get them there either.

In fairness to the OP, I gotta say that the first time I went into Instant Action today to test his issue, I got the strangest TWS response.
Bandits were close ( I had labels on to test) but TWS showed nothing until I pulled right 45 degrees and they showed up center FCR.
But nothing showing on labels there, that flight back to my left (labels) was still there.I can’t get it to repeat. So to the OP, perhaps you could keep an eye out for this.
Wish I could repeat it in case it’s my screw up. But the second I saw it I thought WTFrick?:???:
Then I thought, maybe he’s seeing a bug. I’m open to that possiblity.I ain’t trying to pile on his FCR skills so gotta mention this weirdness I saw once.

Your 2 cents has a lot of value. Glad you motivated me to revisit your post. I had missed where you mentioned about him scanning 25/2 at 20. I had read your post but that didn’t set in.
If I could repeat the oddity, my plan was to go to TE module next. I’m not going there unless it’s repeatable though as I’m not sure of all that was relevant at the time
I hit the oddity. I’ll try again in instant action module, later. But I suspect it was really the part where your glad he’s still posting.
Me too.
