Help with maverick boresight
-
I am trying the training mission and i THINK i am doing everything right…
I can;t get the maverick to boresight witht the TGP.My maverick is powered on and uncaged and in PRE mode.
Master mode set to arm-sim.
I lock on the target on the TGP and hand off SOI to the maverick weapon page.
Slew the maverick cursor to on to the TGP target and press TMS UP.The maverick does not lock and no BSGT ever appears on near osb20.
I tried unlocking the target on the TGP - switch A-G mode on and off the reset the thing, no warning or errors.
Watched the video tutorials and i am sure (but probably not…) that i am doing everything right.
So what can prevent me from boresighting???
Thanks

Distance ? Maverick Model? F16 block?

distance below 20nm
I am trying to boresight, is distance relevant? This is the training mission for the new 4.34: KF-16 block 52
maverick in PRE mode. -

maverick in PRE mode.DO you have a friend to fly with that can walk you through the process ?? Its hard to see if your doing something wrong in a thread.

20nm isn’t close enough. Try less than 10. Depending on conditions (like in training mission) is about 5.
-
Maverick has to lock. That’s a requirement. 20 nm as, above me said is not close enough. Also remember that it’s gonna be slant range. So your altitude matters too. I wouldn’t be above say 16000ft or so for boresighting. Good luck!

i’l try again with your suggestions…
thank you -

but in the training mission boresight is done above 10:

And in the forums, other people are supposed to see your attachments, but……

Target size among others, plays a role.
Try on a building. -

Yes and it works, unlike what some say here. The picture on page 125 prove it.
It’s a big ship, easy to find and with very good contrast. And weather is not yet an issue and unlike what some have forgotten, there is also a cavok version.5Nm might be an accurate distance if you try to boresight on you actual target which is a vehicule, but that would be bad procedure IMHO
The ship serve that purpose in the Te and if you can’t do it on the ship, you have a second chance on the coastal city when you go feet dry.Lots of issues on this forum are because ppl trying to help just don’t consider the reference the Op give and all go with their own ideas, or solutions.
Just consider the referral and maybe we could solve the questions without dramas and in less than 15 pages of mumbo jumbo like seen before in other topic
just 2 cents -
thank you all
working now - i got closed and managed to lock.
What confused me was that i was not able to lock and boresight from further sway.
I thought that boresight could be accomplished at max range 15nm for D type and 20 for G. -
Quick note, BTW : the only prerequisite for boresight is to have the Maverick locked. No need to have the TGP locked before, after…
So it is perfectly doable to point the TGP somewhere, switch SOI to weapon, lock something, then put the TGP on the same thing afterwards and click boresight. You don’t even need to lock the TGP.

Even with one eye closed :P. For a matter of precision maybe. Isn’t it an insurance for accuracy and speed when it comes to targeting vehicles without having to adjust on weapon’s display, in comparison to the cost of a TGP lock during boresight?
Cool and slow with plenty of precision

Remember that you are NEVER going to achieve those kinds of ranges on tac sized targets. BMS is generous, you might get something at 5-6 miles.
We’ve got a RL Hawg driver who trains with mavs a lot. One point he’s tried to hammer home is that the Mav is primarily a VISUAL weapon. They never slave them with the TGP. The farthest distance he’s ever got a Mav to lock up reliably was 3nm.
Typically they attack from a 15k base alt on a 20-30 degree wire, rifling at 2-3 miles.
LMAVS are where they can get double digit ranges.
Here’s a little gem:
Standard tactics are to have the mav uncaged, roll in dive, and literally place the reticle in the target area as if it was CCIP. Let the scene develop in WFOV, go NARO, find the target, lock, wait 2 seconds and smoke a lucky, then rifle. This is all while your in a dive screaming at the earth and your staring at an MFD. Now try doing this at night. If you get a flashing cross you have to wait, and because of IR heating, its super easy for the mav to not lock up a tac sized target. I was 1/2 on the 69mph mover because the second time I could not get it to bound properly. This shit is old tech.

…LMAV iz da bomb.

+1
Also, you don’t have to boresight; often a TGP is not in stock or maybe it’s broken; then time for old school. If you want help via MP shoot me a PM

Here’s a little gem:
There is a reason why I put TGP in area, switch SOI to WPN, track missile, then SOI TGP and make TGP track what missile is tracking. See sometimes there are many targets close together and which object missile will track is a roll of the dice. So I don’t sweat it, let missile track something and then later I can go into TGP and make it track to match missile. TGP is much better behaved to track exactly what I want so easier to make that match missile than start with TGP and hope missile tracks same as TGP.
