Mavs Issue (I know your sick of this but this one makes no sense)
-
Ok, I know how to properly boresight Mavs. No issues with training missions.
Start a campaign and go to do a BAI. I boresight properly the Mavs. I set up auto power on with steerpoint info and then turn them off. They turn on properly. I use TGP to point track target, it locks, NO handoff to Mavs, no “C” above stations. In fact if I reposition Mav seeker, I get OSB 20 Boresight light. (like I never did the previously accepted Boresight!). I am perplexed. My understanding is they should just do handoff and get the C, keep in keyhole and fire. Frustrating. I assume glitch, but is it possible I am doing something wrong here. Thank you for even looking at this one!

The BSGT mnemonic appears whether you did boresight them or not. The missile doesn’t know if it’s properly boresighted or not, so you can always redo the procedure if you need to.
Do you have the WPN page and the TGP page visible at the same time? It found that for the mavs to work properly, both TGP and WPN pages need to be called up. I don’t know if it’s proper behavior, but that’s how it appears to work.

Thanks for helping.
I do have both the TGP and Mav Weapon pages on when I point track, but the “C” doesn’t appear. Confusing.

The C should appear once you have got close enough. The DLZ bracket will appear… You probably have a T or I above the station… when the bracket appears, TMS down and then command point track again… You should complete the handoff then… From my humble understanding, the handoff occurs once the Mav can make out the target… Anyone?? Anyone??

^exactly that.
Maverick seekers do not have the resolution to lock up targets at the same distance as the TGP. If you try to initiate handoff before the mav is in range, you won’t get a proper handoff.
Depending on the target, you’ll need to be within 6-12nm slant range to get a good maverick lock.
I actually prefer to keep one MFD showing TGP and the other showing FCR. I’ll lock targets with the TGP from distance, close to within mav range, then DMS LEFT to show the WPN page and lock the mav manually. Prevents failed handoffs, and also minimizes time spent using the maverick seeker, which is limited.

After the handoff collimation, I keep tracking target just with Sniper pod and NOT WPN page on the other MFD. At soon Mav Bracket say it’s in range, I select WPN on the other MFD, locking tgt on Sniper soi, usually a pair, single pass, never had problems.

What F-16 block did you fly? Not all blocks are capable of the TGP handoff.
BSGT doesn’t display in these cases.

Confirm that when slewing TGP that WPN video slews with matched angles.
Confirm that when commanding TGP track (what range?) that handoff in progress message appears. -
To Everyone,
Thank you all for your advice, particularly on something I know you have seen way too much about. I believe that it must be something to do with the range that I must have screwed up. Although I have re point tracked well within the dlz of the mav, but I did not get the handoff msg nor did I see an “I” over the station. I once did get the “handoff” msg but it just sat there without any completion. I initially see that I had Model A/B Mavs loaded. I switched to D’s and it worked fine. I will keep trying.

Well, that might the reason. Not only do early model mavs have rather short range, I’m not sure if they even support handoff (likely not, considering how old those missiles are). Also, A and B models use a TV contrast seeker, while on the TGP you were most likely in IR mode. Not only is the former less reliable when it comes to tracking, but camera pictures look very different.

Only late model mavericks can be handed off. This is probably your issue as well as being in range. Only D/G can be boresighted.
-
Be aware DLZ only refers to kinematic range of missile and not seeker tracking performance. It is possible to be inside kinematic range but outside seeker range.

Agreed, L. Didn’t I also read that A’s and B’s are no longer fully modeled in BMS?
