Help with setting up comms
-
After a bit of a hiatus, I’m back with Falcon 4.34 U2
I’m having a hard time figuring out the comms starting off on the ground, everything is greyed out apart from options 1, 2 and 6, all the Tower commands are greyed out, I can see the preset frequencies change when I use the step up and step down button for Comm 1 /2, both in UHF/VHF
I even downloaded the AVCS Voice attack profile, and whilst you can see it going through key presses, again, I can’t actually hear anyone respond.
I set up a quick mission in the TE, to check out Dima’s F16N skins, and when I try to get clearance to taxi……all greyed out.
What am I missing in the set up to have working comms?
-
There’s a whole new comms structure since 4.34. Check out the new manual “BMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdf” in the Falcon BMS 4.34\Docs folder.
-
I have that manual opened, and all the comms preset, as you can see with the attached screen, it’s set to Ground, for that airbase, but there’s a lot of greyed out options, if I then select the Tower ( preset 3) on comm1 (UHF)
Everything is greyed out, can’t even ask for weather checks, so I’m missing some sort of step.
I checked the info on the data cartridge, it loads the correct info…
Maybe the tower just can’t be arsed talking to me? The thing is, it’s stopping my wing man from moving off his position too.
-
You’re on preset 1 which is Airbase ops
To talk to ground, you need to be on preset 2
to talk to tower, you need to be on preset3It’s all explained in the docs
-
It is on preset 2, UHF comm 1… 275.8, you can see that on the screen in the UFC window,
I am trying to ask for taxi for departure, so even if I move off, the wingman remains, There’s no communications from the tower about patterns or holding short, I then switch to comm 1 preset 3, and press T when I’m just short… all greyed out.
Is it possibly because I’m starting from the taxi way? and not on the ramp going through a full cold start?
-
Did you wait for Ground to clear you for taxi?
As usual, we can’t see your attachment.
-
Sussed it, I had to shift the UHF to the various numbers, I was looking at the presets, and not the UHF numbers, thanks again for that, I was wondering why you said no, I was on preset 1 … dummy of the week here
-
Sorry, but on that picture in your attachement, you are not on preset2 but you are on preset1
It says UHF1 top left
Preset 2 is Indeed 275.8 but it’s not active or set on your radio, it just display the corresponding preset/frequency pairLorik, you need to click the attachement to see it
-
disregard my answer, I see you figured it out as I was typing

@Red:

Me neither. I suppose you have extended permission on attachments

well, this picked my curiosity as I indeed though it had something to do with me being a moderator so I went checking.
Fact is there is no difference on the permission between moderators, admin and registered users as far as attachment permission is concerned. So I Don’t see why you guys can’t access it and I can

Aaah !!
It seems to be browser related.
I am still on a very old internet explorer, and attachment work fine.
I just switched to edge and I can’t see the attachement anymore, it reports invalid attachment
Same if I try with Chrome, can’t see the attachment as it’s reported invalid.I guess we have the explanation of the attachment issue nagging this forum. I’ll report it as it seems different from the past attachment issue we had in the past.
Yet I think we have some forum maintenance planned in the short future, so … -
Can’t see them on Safari on my iPhone either.

Finally after all these years we’ve found something that works best in Internet Explorer

Can’t see it with the Brave browser either…

So I have to report a bug, would it help if I use ICQ?

I get the same error as Lorik… mobile chrome

Glad you got it, Keeno. As you can see, you not only have to be on the right preset, but that preset has to be on the right freq. One trick that seems fairly common is:as you’re loading the DTC (hopefully you are) click on comms then comm plan. That seems to help with freq setting. Whatever works for you, just as long as the freqs in Briefing are what show up in the 'pit
