I need some help… I’m running into a weird model issue when I fly the model in inclement weather. When I look around the jet the model does strange things when looking at certain angles. It looks pretty much the same as pressing the z-buffer key in the LE 3dViewer. It looks like the rain/clouds interfere with the model. Above the rain there are no issues, as is with the other weather types. Any idea’s what might be the culprit here? I already moved parts in the model tree (staight in series from the root) but no effect… I’m pretty much out of idea’s.
I also noticed that other BMS weapon models that use different poly types have issues when flying in the rain. Glass of the AGM-65 remains visible while the rest of the weapon is obscured by clouds. The clamps of the BMS pylons (ptype 5?) remain visible as well.

@Bad:
Did you updated your 4.34 U1 to 1.34 U2 or did you install a fresh copy of 4.34 U2 ?
I noticed the issue since u0 (It might even be possible the problem played even with 4.33). The 4.34 u1 and u2 update I installed has not changed the situation. I patched the current install.

I assume BMS U2 has some graphics issue. There is other thread reporting similar issue.

The no wheel bug is totally unrelated with the issue depicted by Jan has here

Looking at that I think there is something else playing here… [Guess mode on] It does me think the current values of “Switches = 62” / “Dofs = 99” in the standard PARENT.DAT are not enough for the current models. Maybe the same type of issue plays here as with lights code in the fm file (too many lights and the sim will only show at random some of the lights). If there are more than 99 dof’s in the model and the gear extends that might push it over the limit. Also wheels are dof# 50/51/52 and are higher # than the struts (19/20/21) might explain why it only shows the struts and not wheels. See what happens if you (extract/change dat file/compile) the value to 255 for both Switches and Dofs…[/Guess mode off]

https://www.janhas.net/Files/Image/Large_images/Inclement4.jpgI had than kind of issue during development on Kunsan AB when a/c is on “Light Feature” flood light surfaces and when view camera have a given angle (only visible in inclement and poor weather IIRC) 100% reproducible.

https://www.janhas.net/Files/Image/Large_images/Inclement4.jpgI don’t have any issues right now in inclement weather. I disabled the rain drop effect, maybe that’s why. I you can make some of you LV4 updated model I could do some further testing.

Might be a GPU issue? I remember having the same exact problem back on the FF days and even older OF days when i was using nVidia. That was the main reason that i changed to Radeon and the problem was solved! But might be not. Ill try to see it my self also in the coming days if i can reproduce the problem. I dont know too much of that stuff but it just reminded me that. Can Dee-jay and Jan tell us please your graphic card maker?? if they are different then it just remind me of this problem if they are both nVidia or Radeon then we might have a small clue
EDIT: Scrap what i wrote….
Just reproduced the problem…

Looks like z-buffer sorting issues.

Yeah but thats everybody wants to know. Why happening only in “new” models and when the weather is really bad? Tried with stock F-16 no issues… With The model i tried on the images i posted the same whatever the setting i change (graphics related)… Ill keep trying to see if i can find something… maybe something with the cloud texture or modelling? cause it reaaly goes bad when actually the clouds are behind the plane… like they cover and make transparent the fuselage…

To me it looks more like inverted normals on the model, with backface culling enabled in the renderer, mixed with some sort of transparancy sorting issue

Nop. Not related to normals or the model.
And only in inclement weather.

I did rebuild LOD4 in LE and gave it the same type of structure like the BMS F-16 model (via chPtr). No effect… the other poly types still cause problems. I did also change the poly type 7/9 to 11/13. That makes the model fully visible in inclement weather but the pylons and weapons still disappear.

Is there a chance for a conflict with the textures? I dont know what to say im just trying to figure out my self….

You mean .dds DXT3 textures?
Don´t think so.
My guess ( long shoot) is the new cloud rotation method somehow porks the transparencies in inclement weather.
I just dont make any sense to myself right now :dhorse:You, Jan and me are struggling with the same issue because we are developing new AC as we speak. Even 3D Devs missed it.
One thigh is for sure, not related to the textures or the models or the Ptypes. Something has changed in the BMS core to create this effect.

Well i use dxt1 textures for the fuselage and non transparent stuff so maybe thats the issue? Ill make tomorrow a test with one of my models to check. [emoji41]

You need to use the proper FM/AFM files coming with Jan’s bird package.
