Is it possible to set what the active runway is?
-
Basically the shorter runway is for take off and the longer one is for landing but its not always the case (ie : heavies need the longer one to take off)
-
Ok, thanks. But the strange thing is that yesterday I got 34L and today 34R as the take off runway in the same TE. And didn’t change anything. So I was wondering if there was a way to perhaps set it manually.

Nope, this is not correct.
The code will look for an ILS on a runway (wind taken into account) If a runway has an ILS it will be used for landing.
The parallel runway is used for takeoff. On top, the code will check if the AC can use that runway for takeoff by looking at the length.
If the runway is too short, it will see if another runway is long enough.Gr Falcas

Thanks! I will have a look at the ILS.

i dont think there is any airbase with 2 ILS equiped runway, i mean in the DB….

Not in KTO and not the default ABs. But other theatres do have this.

mhhin that case the choice will be random i think

Would you be able to code it as such in the case of both L and R having ILS, the longer of the two would be prioritised for landing?
-
I’ve always had this same frustration when they want me to land heavy on a short runway. I typically ignore tower and accept my punishment later with the SOF…
“Did you want me to over shoot the runway or bring your jet home safely” 8-)

Actually IRL this is the other way around. The longer runway is mostly used for takeoff and the shorter for landing. (but not always)
The reason is very simple, for fighters most runways are long enough. But for larger AC, you would need much more runway to get airborne than you need for landing.
In general you are much heavier during takeoff. And in case the runway is too short, you can always get the other (longer) runway IRL.

Interesting, thanks for the heads-up Falcas.

I’ve tried changing the ILS to different runways, even removed it. But I keep getting the same runway now. So that didn’t change it. Any other options that could be set?
EDIT: ok, strange (for me anyway). So I had 1 TE that I was talking about in my first post that hadn’t changed. And that one switched runways for me between the first time I flew it and second time. In between those flights I did however make a different new TE. So maybe that’s what caused the change. Because since I made that TE, falcon started me on the other side of the airfield (the 34R side) in all other TE’s I made on Choongwon. Just now I created a test TE and for that one I set runway 34R to destroyed status in mission commander. Started that TE and falcon switched me back to the 34L side of the airfield, I guess because 34R is destroyed. And after I ran that TE, falcon now starts me on the 34L side of the airfield for all the other previous made TE’s again as well.

how do you change the ILS ?
you need to change it in the stations dat file a alright ?
-
I changed the stations dat file. Switched around the location that had the frequency. One runway location had an ILS freq. and the other had 0’s.

What is sure is that for alpha testing i use all the time wind and ils configuration to choose my take off runway
Never ever had a problem to choose the runway I wanted
On the other hand you need to ask yourself if in a real airbase you would choose your runway or abide ATC instructions
-
As a pilot its not your job to provide a service for ATC. The job for ATC is to provide a service for the pilots.

I wonder what would happen at CDG if you request a specific runway for take off instead of then one instructed by the ATC ?

That is very easy to answer. You will ask it because you have a reason to do so.
As long as the runways is not closed or any other other valid reason exist that ATC can not do that, you will get the runway you ask for.
It might take a little time so you will ask in advance so ATC has time to organise, but you will get it.
Happens a lot I can tell you.Gr Falcas

Example from yesterday. Or assigned STAR was on one side of the APT, asked for the other side due to weather.
And sure we got what we needed.
