Strange profile of missile velocity
-
Is it normal missile decelerates after 1~2 seconds of the launch?
-
Gravity?

Yes, depending on the missile…and the launch altitude - lower is worse. FOREX: a MAV can get really slow on a long shot, and a jet like a Viper can easily out fly one.

If that graph comes from someone’s ACMI, and the missile was fired by someone else, you may get desync issues that could do weird things to the position and thus the velocity of the missile.
The 120C is supposed to boost 7s, give or take. No reason for it to stop accelerating at this stage.

I ran in standalone: it was my record

Time between release, ignition and acceleration?

that’s what I was thinking with my “gravity” comment…

Most (if not all) missile motors are designed to boost and then sustain - i.e.; the Specific Impulse at launch is far greater than the Specific Impulse farther down range. This serves two purposes - 1) to quickly and cleanly separate the weapon from the aircraft, and 2) to maximize the weapons range and maneuver capability during it’s designed TOF. There are several ways to do this…here are two examples:

If the weapon were to continue to accelerate throughout the duration of flight its fuel would be exhausted VERY quickly. So this is all simply part of design optimization and shouldn’t be a surprise.

For the 120C in BMS there is only boost.
I can only assume it is an ACMI bug. Even in a vertical launch there is no deceleration that I can see.

…that’s discouraging.

Indeed. If you look carefully on the time scale of the X axis of the figures, the missile accelerates at a constant rate for about 7 s starting approximately 1 s from the beginning of the charts.

this looks like an ACMI thing yea. Tacview does the same thing with DCS.
