Any resemblance to the TOPGUN logo is pure chance.

An old photo that I took during an airshow at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Here’s my current wallpaper (2560x1440). A photo I took of a flight of 3 Japanese RF-4EJ Recce Phantoms taxiing in at Hyakuri Air Base.

Why did the forum post it if it’s not valid? Do you mean you don’t see it or I shouldn’t have posted it?
You do realize you posted it too?

He means we can’t see the picture. Follow the link he gave you to see how to post photos on the forum.

This is where I got it. Lots of good wallpapers.

To embed an image, you first copy the direct image link (right click on image on that website, and select “Open image in new tab” or “Open image in new window” – copy the URL)
URL Examples:
https://wall.alphacoders.com/big.php?i=110947 (this is the website, it won’t work)
https://images3.alphacoders.com/110/thumb-1920-110947.jpg (this is the actual image by itself, it will work)If it’s a pic on your PC, upload it to a good free image hosting site like imgur.com and then “Open image in new tab” (or “window”) to get the direct link from it’s address bar.
Next, come here and click on the image icon* in the editor tools →
In the pop-up, select the tab “From URL”, and paste in your link… UNCHECK the box next to “Retrieve remote file and reference locally” and click OK
*If you’re familiar with BBCode, you can just toss IMG tags around your URL (as long as it is a direct link to image, not a webpage WITH the image as an element)
[img]https://images3.alphacoders.com/110/thumb-1920-110947.jpg[/img] ```_(↑ BBcode, not HTML code - only way to **not** get IMG tags to embed for this example)_ **In the end, when done right, it auto-embeds a full sized image into the post instead of a link that reads "Attachment 42080" or such, like this:** ![](https://images3.alphacoders.com/110/thumb-1920-110947.jpg)

It had an option to post an image from my computer. I used that and when it took the image I thought everything was fine and it would show the image. It just showed attachment but when I clicked on it I got the image, so I thought everything was ok.
Seems to me I did the same thing when I posted a picture of my Jeep and it showed up fine.
So, the problem was it wasn’t a jpg?

Maybe it was outside the parameters of allowable attachments, but when I download that image to my PC, it is a .jpg of 188kb at 1920x1080
*(well within params)
When I follow the same procedure (as in, upload from my PC, same image) it results in a less desirable thumbnail format, and although it is visible in edit preview only and not in-post, it does upload.
like this:For me, once posted, it’s just a url but it DOES resolve to the image when clicked, as opposed to the one in your post which goes to an invalid attachment page. Does this image appear as a thumbnail to you all, or is it just the words “Attachment 42087” as a URL? Does the link lead you to the image, or does it go to ‘invalid attachment page’?
Can’t imagine what the issue would be, but for best display, it’s better to upload to an image hosting website like imgur.com or just a direct link to the original image wherever that may be online, and use the method in my previous post. As long as you uncheck the box for “Retrieve remote file and reference locally”, it will always embed a full sized image (limited by the forum page width), which looks best on page.

It goes to invalid for your link. The same as what you see on mine. Forum seems kind of picky.

Well, then we learned something - I certainly did. When I click the link, it goes to the image, leading the person who posts something like that to assume nothing is wrong. Totally understandable that this happens so much here, where we need to remind our friends that an attachment is broken in this manner, and to repost/fix it. I wonder if it’s a vBulletin thing, or due to some settings on this site - these forums are locked to guests, one has to have a website account to view them, very appropriate for BMS but non-standard by a small degree.
A permalink to the instructions on embedding image from URL is this if anyone needs to link a friend: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?17569-Wallpapers&p=553824#post553824
I might find somewhere to add that into my sig, simple but not obvious SOP. Cheers, bro!
