How did you get your Callsign?
-
As you all know, in RL pilots usually "earn " their callsigns due to some embarrassing personal trait and/or event. Just for fun, how did you get yours, even if you gave it to yourself?
Mine was from circa 2010. I was floundering around in FSx flying (or rather trying to fly) a helicopter. A flying buddy was visiting and watching the antics. His comment was “Way to go , Airwolf”.
The rest is history… -
Mine was actually given to me by a USMC Aviator that I know, back in 2006…because of a pair of sunglasses I always wear that make me look like Stevie Wonder.
…and it took me a year or so to figure that out.

This thread promises to become very interesting, indeed :munch:
Mine is very simple, It is a short from my Italian surname. I inherited it from my cousin who is a retired civ pilot.
He got this in the first place from the name of a famous caracter from a 90,s Brazilian soup opera: Sasá Mutema. I adopted the H and the double SS to make it easier for english speakers, ortherwise it would sound like zazá…Note: My callsign in BMS MP is Sassah. The one I use here is similar, but from other times

I wasn’t thinking when I created my account here on the BMS forum
When I started learning BMS, I wanted to have the call sign “Glacier”.
I thought that sounded cool (pun semi-intended). I like rocks and mountains and glaciers and things like that.
A year or so before I built my PC and started learning BMS, I bought a gaming console and signed up for the accompanying network. I had to pick a name, and I thought I’d use the name of a type of rock. The network service appended “470” after “Mylonite”.
For some reason, I decided to be consistent when I signed up for the BMS forum, thinking I could pick a callsign that would be different from my username. I didn’t RTFM. I should have just used “Glacier”. Oh well, live and learn.
But I really do like mylonite, it is a really cool type of rock. It is highly deformed, and deformed metamorphic rocks are my favorite. There’s a nice photo essay about it at Sandatlas:

Icer is what we used to call that intense feeling in your head you get when you drink something real cold real fast…

A watery tart lobbed a scimitar at me
(lol)
PDX is the international airport in my city, Semler is actually my surname (IRL, people don’t call me by my first name) -
I’ve had my nickname / callsign since my early teens when my sister (4 years my senior) started dating & ended up marrying a local limey (we used to have a huge garrison of 6,000 british soldiers & dependants in my home town at some point). The english folks had difficulties pronouncing my first name “Uwe” properly and just ended up calling me “hoover”. That nickname has stuck through all the decades I’ve been online starting with mailboxes, FIDOnet back in the mid-80s and my german friends started calling me “hoover” as well!
I think it’s rather fitting to describe my “performance” in BMS too as you know what hoovers are good for generally
All the best,
Uwe

The first part of my nickname results from the first letter of my first and last name:
Martin D ……
I used this abbreviation to register at pinball machines (at that time only three letters were possible). Another reason is that I’m a (sometimes) little bit mad too …
The second part came about because as an instructor in recruit training I was supposedly too kind to my soldiers. As kind as the doctor. So they called me the medical officer, which became Doc. -
Paderborn?

I do a lot of B&Z. It should be boom and zoom but I like BuzzU and zoom better.
You thought it had to do with drugs didn’t you?

Back in the late 70’s I worked at an airfield in Northern California. We had a service manager who had a beard. One day a customer came in the hangar, saw the service manager, a close buddy and yelled “……Bill, ya bearded clam”. I just lost it, and for months I drew cartoons of a mythical bearded clam…It wasn’t until some years later that I actually found out what a “bearded clam” was…not the ocean variety.
So it stuck, and that’s what I am in F4BMS. Gavel1955 is a shortened version of my first and last name.Greg

Hi
“Caldero” is my typical spanish favourite food recipe, but when I read it in John Trotti’s book “Phantom over Vietnam” many years ago, I couldn’t resist
More than 20 years together, no cheating, and counting…

Got mine when I was at RDAF flight school. I was in the 9th grade (class of 88) in school and me and my class mates were trying out future jobs (educational internship). I wanted to be a pilot, so I made an application to try out what it would be like to be a pilot. Had a week of tasting the life in a military flight school. Got my first flight in the T-17 Supporter with a instructor that showed me what flying is all about. Great week and great memories.
Was later accepted to try out the pilot test but failed in math. So the dream was not possible. But today I’m glad I tried. Now I have my own virtual air force and live out my dream in BMS and for that I’m grateful.

it is funny, i have fly in all kind of flightsims since late 90’s and i havent think in a callsing, i was know in and old anime forum as RD because the robotech series, and thats how the pilos were called on the series Robotech Defenders, but that was to may years ago.
on that days i used to play online and i start the idea of make squadrons and tournaments, me and my team won a couple of battles but after a few weeks the rest of the guys crush us every tme, so we decide to disband the team and some of us including me left the forum, some how the others allways manage to aroaund us one by one and fire a rain of missiles at the same time, and we cant destroy o eveade all. now i prefer to stay offline.
