Warthog F-16 Joystick vs. CH Pro - anyone made the switch to TM?
-
Thanks for posting that picture of the work-in-progress Winwing gear, Tazz!
When I saw the F-16 TQS in that picture, I just about had a heart attack!
⌠I mean in a good way! :clap2:
Of course, it would need to have a good throttle position sensor, good enough to do AAR. I hope they donât skimp on that sensor. Nor on the RDR CURSOR thumbstick. But if they do a good job on those things, that would be a sweet piece of gear.
Fingers crossed! :pray2:

Thx Stevie, maybe iâll use it as a âDX Shiftâ or something, AP is pretty well coveredâŚ
I like to used CMS->dwn as a shift key because it isnât used for anything in the Viper. This way I can retain all of my basic Viper HOTAS functions as basic and directly assigned.
-
On any stick I used I always had the Pinky button as Pinky and shift as any button that needs to be pressed with the thumb makes it pretty useless as shift button on the stick as you canât press any other button with your thumb

CMS-Down turns on the jammer AFAIR

Thatâs another reason I like CMS->dwn as a shift key. On the WH stick it simply amounts to âsqueezingâ the stick. I use the combination of CMS->dwn and Pinky to command Ejection, forex. I donât assign any other shift functions to any of my Stick switches because BMS takes care of what I need them all to do for me. So my thumb is never trying to pull double duty.

That may be for the Warthog, but not for the Viper. A RL Viper stick doesnât have that switch position and thatâs why itâs not accounted for/used in BMS.
-
Depends on your setup. I have a few function like Visor, NVG flip Kneeboard Pages, AVTR, on my stick hats as shift layers. Therefore using Pinky switch and finger for shifting leaves more options open

Yes - if you want to go âoff-scriptâ with your HOTAS then thatâs another consideration. I try to keep mine strictly in line with the RL aircraft, otherwise whatâs the point of spending all that money on a set of RL representative controls ?
Once I have my cockpit built and have an actual Ejection handle, Iâll probably kill my shift optionâŚright now the only one I use is to eject.
-
In the -34, pages 18+20, it is stated that CMS-Right sets the jammer to standby (music off), CMS-Down turns it on.
Is that incorrect ?

Unshifted layer as close to RL for sure.
But even any RL Military simulator I have been trained on had either a shift layer or additional inputs for RL functions that donât have a system input representation in the real vehicleGesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk

Btw, Winwing Orion (a Chinese simulation gear manufacturer) is now also working on a F-16 FLCS and TQS (complete with the correct lift-gate for the ident and AB).

Itâs still in development but their F-18 HOTAS kits are now landing in the community, Iâm awaiting additional reviews but Iâm rather excited to see another option appearing, alongside the likes of Virpil.

At $500 USD, this is look like a very impressive piece of kit:

Ok, just curiousâŚThis was posted on April 1st. And the âwwsimstoreâ link is just a â502 Bad gatewayâ! Iâm suspicious!! :suspicious:

The Trainers I fly regularly have no such thing as âshift layersâ. But their (RL) HOTAS implementation/mapping does make BMS look like a toyâŚ

I just received my Winwing(WW) Orion HOTASâŚprice $583.00 out the door. I ordered on the 6/17/21 and it arrived in Alabama on 6/23/21 via FedEx of course from China! It was a total of 4 boxes for the throttle and stick, I quickly unboxed them with feelings of being a little kid on ChristmasâŚassembly required! Winwings customer support is very responsive via email within 24hrs. I was concerned about Key binding for Falcon BMS 4.35 because the throttle base panel: switches, dials, and axis were not recognized in BMS but in the WW sim app pro they all were active/operational! WW response:
Thank you very much for your support.
The BMS is too old and can not support 128 key hardware, please go simapp>test page of orion base, there is a selection to 4x32key device ,change to that model, you will have 4 device in BMS.I followed the instructions given and opened Falcon_BMS_Alternative_Launcher_v1.60. VoilĂ ! Everything worked on the stick , throttle, and throttle panelâŚwhat a sigh of relief? Now, Im trying to get things setup the way I had my TM cougar throttle and stick well over a decade ago!
POP QUIZ: Is there still a such thing as stick profiles and does anyone have one for Winwing(WW) Orion HOTAS? If so, please point me in the direction where I can get oneâŚthis is what I do miss about my TM cougar throttle and stick!
PS: WinWing sim app pro is geared for DCS only my opinionâŚI guess us Falconerâs are considered obsoleteâŚHA HA LOL!

I found this DX32 limitation when running a TARGET script that enables DX33-128 on my WartHog HOTAS (throttle only), BMS is the only place I have to stop the script (DCS and IL2 both utilize it) but since itâs a matter of simply clicking âStopâ in the TARGET Script Editor itâs a non-issue⌠you have the opposite issue, having to âhobbleâ the WinWing with backwards compatibility for BMS. With the âReleaseâ capability of Alt Launcher I get the same results, all switches function in all positions.

How, or why, would you do that? Is that to help with shift commands? Wouldnât that cause more problems because you want less than 32?

For BMS I do not run the script as it isnât needed (and DX33-128 is not even seen by BMS anyway) because we have the âReleaseâ function to give the Warthog Throttle full functionality for 2/3 way toggle switches that do not have a DX# assigned to every switch position. For DCS running the script makes programming every toggle position very easy in the settings window vs. modifying the LUA files to get the toggles to work correctly, plus it never gets overwritten by the numerous updates DCS comes out with. For IL2 it does the same thing⌠hope that makes some sense.

@icer Looking at the Warthog diagram, I think I understand as not every toggle has a dx for every position. Interestingly, I have no idea how the two POVs work as they donât seem to have dx assigned. How do you allocate more dx buttons?
Partly, Iâm interested because in some games the toggles seem to send constant input to a game causing problems, and I canât seem to switch them off. Even in Target, I tried some code text but couldnât set a dx or switch to inactive

.The index finger POV hat on the throttle is OEM assigned as POV1.UP /Down/Left/Right and as such doesnât use DX #'s. The hat under your thumb uses DX3-6 naturally. I would be happy to share the script I use if you want to try it for âother than BMSâ sims/games⌠https://www.dropbox.com/s/l4pftdd2k7b59tz/Target 128 Buttons.rar?dl=0
