ATC response too late.

i follow the appr control instruction exactly, when he hands me over to tower control, i was only 6 miles away airport.
i have to make a sharp turn, press ICP 2 9 2 3 0 enter (if i forgot the preset radio channel or land in random airport), call tower for permission to land.
if i was flying a 747, it’d be a fail landing (or crash).
even it is a F-16, this is not the comfortable situation.
i wish appr control can hand over 10-15 miles away. -
It could even be later IRL …
Manage and prepare your Comms presets.
And even if you have to set a freq manually, it takes about 5s to enter the freq with the mouse … lets say 10s the time for you to send the “On Final” call with the key board. Lets say about 10s to get a reply,=> 25s … round it 30s.
At 150Kts in approach, you travel 1.25Nm … So you have about 4-5Nm margin. Lets reduce it to 3 before reaching an MAPT => you still have about 1min margin to ask and get a landing clearance.
And if for any other reason you can’t … go around … Prepare the Preset this time.Welcome to the world of the fighter pilots flying a single seat jet aircraft.

UHF 2,3,4 leaving and 4,3,2 arriving presets seem to always work for me?

UHF 2,3,4 and 7,8,9 works fine too

i never saw any landing video make turning like this. (i mean, civil aviation)UHF 2,3,4 leaving and 4,3,2 arriving presets seem to always work for me?
random airport?

random airport?
if it’s your alternate you could switch to 11,12,13 otherwise if you know you land on a random airport you should dial in the tower frequency onto a preset before you even contact approach
-
With ICP on keyboard I can COM1-2-9-2-3-ENT pretty fast. Normally in dep/arr ops my inc-dec arrows are on the UHF preset. At unprepared field it’s true that manual freq entry is slower. Unprepared field is rare though. Even if the result came mid flight there is still all the time en route to prepare notes.
Do I keep a collection of airbase details for whole theater beside me when I fly sim? No. Do real pilots? Probably.

In KTO I do. With EFB on my phone, it’s all an arm’s reach away:)

What does mean “fast”?
but even i slow down to 150kt, 6 miles is not good for such sharp turn (for the pic above).
On straight-in final you can’t be much a above 150Kts configured for landing.
Or where you speaking about an overhead arrival?
Do I keep a collection of airbase details for whole theater beside me when I fly sim?
Just look at in-game pilot’s knee-map.
Do real pilots?
Obligatorily.

Absolutely. I moved all my documentation into my one drive. That way I can access everything through my iPad that I also use IRL operating Q400. Having an electronic flight bag for BMS and DCS makes the simulator more realistic and fun.

Sounds like you arent flying the correct pattern and/or pattern speed.
You should have all the frequencies for your mission programmed into your DTC. If everything is programmed in the DTC, all you need to do when handing off from approach to tower… is press COM1, “2”, ENT and you are now tuned to the tower. This is the way things work.

UHF 2,3,4 and 7,8,9 works fine too
Benefit of this way of doing it is you will never get caught out whether your departure and arrival AB’s are different or the same
…… all you need to do when handing off from approach to tower… is press COM1, “2”, ENT and you are now tuned to the tower. T…
Or if you make UHF the focus on the DED (with ICP DCS switch UP/DN), then simply hit the rocker switch on the ICP to cycle up/down through the pre-sets.

i wish appr control can hand over 10-15 miles away.APCH wishes that too! Its not the typical arrangement, though. More common inside 10 miles.
Places with parallel runways and dependent approaches, you might have to go from approach to director, director to finals, and finals to tower, all in the same amount of space!

Consider yourself lucky… Few days ago ATC transferred me from approach (U4) to tower (U3) ONE mile on final…
But it was busy time, 2x flights of 4 planes in a row … so it may be that … until ATC sorts all of them out. in the end it went smoothly.
