BMS status rant

@Bad:
No need to be sorry but sorry to say : such report doesn’t help us at all.
Please provide us some explanations (and if possible some repro cases) of all your issues or some crashlog in case of CTD with some reliable bug reports and we’ll do our best to fix all them
Cheers,
BBI know you shall do your best.
I know my report doesn’t help.
Current state of BMS is lacking in too many ways that something drastic has to change regarding development, development process, development cooperation and development testing.
The path taken leads nowhere good.
More than that…I think the community and especially the devs share my concerns.
Maybe there is no viable solution ATM and you are just trying to salvage what you can.
BMS deserves more than being salvaged and it’s either a peaceful death or a glorious future.
4.36 won’t be the solution.
It will only add issues.
The current problem is the foundations are crumbling.
Fix them before anything else for I would sure hate to watch a ghost of such a glorious past rotting in-front of my eyes.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

All BB is saying is that if you do have a crash log or whatever post it in bugtracker or to the apropriate forum thread so the testers & devs can see a work around about it.
Theres is a lot of things in the sim that needs fixing and yes there was a lot of change within BMS team but i dont think that thats lacking cooperation or testing force or even coders or 3d modelers but i would say cause exactly there is many things changed that needs some time to get back on track and believe me when i say it looks promising cause before the delivery of U2 we where more than enough testers working together and cooperating to find solutions.
I dont think there is a foundation crumbling as you said i would say exactly the oposite but as i said it needs time to fruition as it happens with all changes…just my 2c

We enjoyed open falcon with Ctds back then , btw don’t know what happens in the team and how this has impact to the game

But…BMS is becoming more and more undependable, unstable, undocumented and a source of too much frustration instead of just fun.
I share your feelings, and we are trying really hard to change things.
I am sorry U2 did not work out well for you. We tested it really hard for days, but none of our testers had this screenshot problem.
The focus for U2 was exactly stability. We barely added some new things there. If you look at the logs, you will notice a lot of “Fix…” lines. But we are humans, not perfect, with limited test power and time, so some bugs passed unnoticed.
On the bright side, the screenshot issue is already fixed. Hopefully for a U3.
Have no fear of posting problems, but keep in mind that the more direct your feedback is, the better. Reports like:
“hey, I have a CTD if I do X Y Z in this order” are very useful, specially if they come with a dmp attached.
-
I have never posted something like that here, or elsewhere for that matter.
I really appreciate all the effort by the devs, voluntary effort.
But…BMS is becoming more and more undependable, unstable, undocumented and a source of too much frustration instead of just fun.
Too many important devs are leaving with their responsibilities half replaced/ taken care of, too many documents are not updated on a regular basis, too many crucial bugs emerge instead of being taken care off during testing, too many flights just cut short because of software issues.
Just finished a 25 minutes of my squad’s flight night with two aircrafts hanging above the control tower wheels down and a CTD when taking a screen shot with 4.35.2
Just one too many bugs.
The state of BMS is just driving one too many away.
I know that if I wouldn’t have belonged to a BMS wing I would just say the hell with it and go have fun elsewhere.
Sorry for being too harsh.
Sorry for speaking my mind so bluntly.
It is becoming less and less fun flying it.Too bad for you and your mates
We are doing our best so we dont have to be sorry in anyway
Personally I am very proud of what we did , what we do and what we will do
I think some people still enjoy what we do as well so at least we don’t do things for nothing
If you have no fun anymore you take the right decision to uninstall.
Enjoy other sims , get fun back and thanks for your contribution to BMS
On a side note , I would be interested to know what is undocumented so we can work on it ?

Nothing special happened to the team
As a matter of fact we have a lot of new workforce that are really helping to improve and to enter into the next decade

Well, options are:
-
Submit specifics, detailed sequence of events leading to an issue, crashlogs, etc.
-
Whine without specifics that leave more questions than answers.
hmmm…… 1? or 2? So hard…

Very nice to see such a peaceful thread …
Complains/feedback without hard words, just a factual explanation from one user POV.
Gentle, honest and constructive answers from the Dev …You can be proud guys.

Our vFW members kept 4.34U4 installs and that is still the version we use for wing flights until the newer versions are proven stable.
We still go on “unofficial” flights using the latest version to keep up with the new procedures, test for CTD’s etc.
Just throwing this out there because I still think 4.34 is still worth flying and maybe you wouldn’t get so frustrated if your wing took a similar approach. I can wait a looooong time for the ship to be righted as long as the previous version still gives me what I want.

We are driving the (what I think) the largest weekly open BMS Event in the community, with a constant participation of 20-30 people connected. And followed the update process along with a maximum of 1 week delay for updating in internal testing.
Our dedicated Server runs on an Amazon AWS EC2 instance even without a GPU.
The very rare server crashes I can remember since 4.35 came out were mostly related to the same issue due to the specific setup and very easlily avoided by the person dealing with the server during the event (RPD connection closed buffer overflow). And the communication to the dev team just lately really improved as we have a lot of developers by trade in our group and try to do as much as analysis beforehand if we encounter any user CTD in our events to provide proper use cases, repro cases and dmp analyis.
I really appreciate the latest change by the devs in getting a bit more straihght communicative with the community.
Secondly the number of reported Client CTD in flight were as well marginally compared to the numbers who encountered non. I personally haven’t encountered a single one in those large events since 4.35 came out.
To the OP
As beeing very acitive in various BMS discord trying espaically new people finding their way through the docs I don’t see any substantial issue with the documentation or undocumented stuff.
So as Mav-JP stated if you think there is undocumented stuff point to it instead of just making a vague statement -
Im very interested to hear how U2 is doing for you folks.
Apart of the visor down text overlay and break point assertation bug we already point you to by our members abelian and Fritz, we will at least run 3 larger BMS events only this weekend again. If something comes up which I dont expect (as we will adives the participants on the visor issue) you’ll get immediatly informed with detailed pre analysis

It is becoming less and less fun flying it.When it comes to the documentation, changes are comming. The task is big, complex but we are getting there. In time, i hope, you will be satisfied.

Hi,
We are still waiting for your reliable bug reports.
Sorry to say but speaking about what’s happening inside the bms team (in the past and in the future) without beeing part of the team is pure speculation and doesn’t help us so much.
Cheers

I personally don’t see it like that
For me that message is so disconnected from the facts and reality that there is nothing to argue actually
Nearly every sentence is actually wrong , in particular the one about our dev capability , it’s fun the guy believes he has some insight but it’s just an uninformed opinion
We like very much the comments and criticisms because it allows us to improve
A post like that has no meaning and is of zero interest for us so no need to loose our calm
I prefer to spend time on discord with the people actually flying and that report constructive and helpful comments
Let’s go back to work

Your previous reply I disregarded.
As for this one…I shall not treat you with the same attitude you think you are entitled to treat others while preaching others who have different manners or thoughts.
Sadly, your answer just strengthens my take on said BMS issues.
Have a wonderful weekend.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Okay that’s fun because now I know who you are
Sorry for that I know I am the cancer of BMS
That’s no newsPoint is that we all would like you beeing more precise in your assertions in order to start constructive debate and eventually make BMS progress but for now you just failed to do so
Enjoy life and please stop beeing frustrate with us and bms , it does not worth it

Polaris,
If I may add my non-Dev .02, and admittedly go “on my soapbox”.
I understand your frustration, BELIEVE ME, but…
In 4.35.2 my ctds have dropped to-none. And that’s in KTO, Balkans, Polar Vortex, even the 4.35.1 Viet Nam , Taiwan, and Nevada. My MP gang has changed over to 4.35 (yes, we were using 4.34) And this is all happening with a modded F18E. But this did not come easily, I literally fussed for a day to get U2 running(long story, suspected anti-malware blockage)
Anyway, what I’m trying to say is , and please excuse the directness, why not be part of the solution instead of just bitching about it?
If you’re having problems, post them. If you have Crashlogs, share them. If you have questions, ask them. Be a productive part of our Community.
When 4.35 came out and the Dev-focus became , shall we say, 'more Viper oriented", we had the Great Hotspot Disappearance in the Hornet. We of the Mafia( actually there wasn’t even a Mafia then!) had 3 choices. We could go to DCS, we could live with them, or we could solve the problems. We solved them. I’m not saying this to brag, although I am proud of what we’ve done ,and are doing. I’m saying this as an example of what even one person can do. -
I’d say @Polaris please leave the talking and maybe seriously consider start doing and contributing your sand granule or stone or rock or mountain or planet or galaxy or universe to the community?
What do you say? -

You’re right, indeed I was completely wrong!!! LOL …
Thank you for the huge work you’ve all done lately and please apologies for my pause/break in Dev duties.
