@Hawkeye55 Nice setup! that 3080 and a UHD screen will give you a pretty nice and fluid experience with BMS. Enjoy.
-
@Fish44 Its @Atlas that has the 3080 not @Hawkeye55 . The screenshot crop is of Atlas’s setup.
-
@Hawkeye55 you gotta be kidding

OOPS, Well 3050 is pretty decent for BMS with 1080p. 1 step at a time @Hawkeye55

Hallo all,
this is my first posting, so let me say „Hallo“ at first.
A short first impression from my side:
For installation this week I have used the installation guide and the first postings from this thread. I must say, I’m a real rookie in handling of torrent-files. So the beginning of the installation was confusing for me because of the torrent-downloads, preparation in download-folder (I have seen, you can change it) and unzipping and … . And, to be honest, I can’t remember exactly in which sequence I have done the separate steps. After that I have had the normal setup.exe on my system and -surprise!- it was easy suddenly. The setup.exe has installed the base and the U1-3 without any downloads /handling from my side.
IMHO maybe it is possible to list the first actual steps in the installation guide, before the installation starts.The second surprise was Falcon 4.0. I have the old original Falcon 4.0 with the 2kg manual-book (such a thing you can’t imagine today …). And because of YouTube-videos and Google I did believe that the copy of my installation is enough for BMS-installation. But no! BMS has required the installation. Okay, no problem, I have done it and all was okay.
My first impressions: fantastic!!
And for a test I have installed the balkan-theatre yesterday; no problem, it works.I have had Allied Force after Falcon 4.0. A good version for that time more than 15 years before, but too old simply and so I haven’t used Falcon 4.0 for some years. Result: I will have a lot of questions the next time. But of course I will read the manual(s) and try to find the answers there. I’m an offline campaign-player, I can integrate it better in my day. And at the first step I will stay on ground to learn all the buttons and functions (I’m sure, it will take more than one evening).
Wish you a nice weekend!

@SledDog01 Hello, welcome to falcon BMS, I recommend that in addition to reading the manuals, watch tutorials on YouTube, there are many interesting channels where they teach in a didactic way how to use weapons, procedures, etc. Greetings and good flight

@SledDog01 It is quite confusing at first for sure but you will get the hang of it at some point. If you’ve installed via the new “all-in-one” method, it might be a good idea to learn how to install via the old method if you have the time. I would not expect the “all-in-one” method to be available right after a new update drops… unless a dev wants to correct me here??.. so learning how to do it the old way means you can take advantage of the new Update as soon as it becomes available.
Welcome and ask away! Most helpful replies will point you to specific sections of the manual or you can even say which parts you’ve read and how you’re having issues to get more specific help.

Certainly do not speak for the Dev’s, but not sure why they would take a step backward since “C:\Falcon BMS 4.36\Updater.exe” will (I assume) update you to the latest version easily?
-
The updater needs the new installer…
There are new keys that I am monitoring for it …
-
@Icer Just saying that the new way is surely welcome but would not be surprised if the next few updates will be released the old way first before being “integrated” into the new way. For us familiar with the old way, surely, just downloading a few MB of a new update is quicker/easier than downloading the whole entire thing each time a new update is released. If one of the reasons for torrents is bandwidth limitation (or something else I forget), the surely hosting an all-in-one chunky installer all the time will encounter this issue.
Just my musings and would be happy either way!
-
@Atlas The download is hosted on cdn.falcon-bms.com, which appears to be Cloudflare, which very nicely offers free egress bandwidth from their CDN locations.
But, too good to be 100% true…? because, how often the CDN cache loses the bits and needs to refresh from the origin … multiplied by the number of CDN locations on planet earth … is harder to estimate. Max is being justifiably cautious, with the rollout.
But anyway, on days of new releases, the cache-hit ratio should be quite high. Backend bandwidth cost will still be higher those days (because Cloudflare has ~200 locations that need to be populated). but not unlimited, so that’s nice.
-
@airtex2019 That’s a bit too technical for me, but like I said, I’m happy either way. Just recommending that new guys learn how to install from the old method so they won’t be missing out if the devs have to release via torrent for the same reasons they do now.
-
@Atlas anyway the key point is the new-hotness installer includes an ‘Updater.exe’ which presumably fetches incremental bits, without having to download entire 5Gb each time

Hallo all,
after days of reading and flying I have 2 questions:
The first Legacy-Installation I have uninstalled with Revo uninstaller and CCleaner. Then I have done it new with “full setup.exe”, so I have the Updater.Now my 2 questions, for which I haven’t found answers / solutions (maybe I have overlooked them in the Readme-files, then Sorry!):
A) In the Tactical Engagement I have seen, that some missions are not flyable (the “take off-button” doesn’t work). These missions are Formations, Tac_Turns, HARTS, AAR, Failures, IR Intercept, Barcap, Guns, Harpoon, 22Osan._Daegu, JTAC. Is it normal?B) The Default-kneeboard: I open it with Alt + C, then P. I see the kneeboard, but the right kneeboard is blank over all 16 pages. Only one sentence I can read on the first page: “intentionally left blank.” Is it normal or must I do something with the files 7982-97 in KoreaObj?
Thanks for answer!
-
@SledDog01 both normal
for (A) you sometimes have to click the dropdown next to the clock, to start it. it’s a weird old bug or quirk with F4 code
for (B) it leaves space for tools like WDP to generate mission-specific kneeboards
-
@SledDog01 or even A) you need to select the correct flight first!! Like in AAR, there’s a lot of flights and the first one listed is Package 2028 and is a Hornet flight.
-
@Atlas and @airtex2019 ,
Aha, now it’s clear. Thanks! -
I believe, this is the last question with relation to Installation:
Which files must I copy to save the settings and campaign-data, before I install BMS new?Greetings!
-
@SledDog01
just backup everything in your\Falcon BMS 4.36\User\Config
folder … at least the stuff in there with timestamp Oct 2022 or laterbut for restoring your data on a new fresh install… just your key file, your cfg files, and your various {PilotCallsign}.* files
-
@airtex2019 ,
okay, THANKS for answer and nice weekend!
