Hung stores
-
@Tumbler31 Most interesting thing is that since I’ve been running with -mono I did not have hung stores anymore. Maybe it’s just a coincidence but I’ll keep running it.
In both cases I’ve pickled to release a HARM (verified by REL showing in MFD) but nothing came of the rail. It did also not result in a hung store and I could release the HARM after.
My HOTAS Cougar has allowed me to release all weapons perfectly up until 4.36…
I remember from long ago that for CCRP bombing it was advised not to press the pickle button until right before the countdown reaches zero or else there was a high chance of Falcon ‘losing’ the pickle input and the bombs not releasing. Is that still relevant?

Make sure you use DX for pickle and not emulated spacebar
I have been using a HOTAS Cougar with the following code: BTN S2 /H SPC for many years. Why would it make a difference when using DX?

Because the cougar and foxy are a piece of shit ( I own 2 of them)
Use DX for pickle, trust me

HARMs. USAF would ground their jets if they had this many "HUNG STORE"s.

do negative-G’s contribute to hung-stores, or just max positive-G?

I was more hoping for a technical answer.
Anyway, I’ve two Cougars myself and have been using them for years without problems. If the issue is with the input device I should have experienced weapons not releasing way before 4.36 which is not the case, considering that the delay before weapon release has been around for a while.Furthermore I’ve verified the proper operation of my sticks many times with a key tester and they work OK.
Also I’ve noticed that a hung store almost never happens when launching air to air missiles and almost only when releasing AG ordnance. If it was input related, I’d expect it to happen with all weapons with delayed pickling. And to make sure: the jet is never over-G’d or oversped and I always confirm that I hold the pickle button for over 1.5 seconds (way longer even) and that REL is visible continuously for that time.
I’ve also experienced a couple of times now that regular MK-84’s get hung while releasing them in CCIP without delay cue, so they should come right off upon pickling (one pair, no interval), instead they go hung…

@Bowser Might be totally wrong here but AG ordnance has a lower G-tolerance than the aircraft, hence the CAT I/CAT III switch, so even if you’re not over-G’ing the aircraft, you may have over-G’d your stores? Also AG ordnance has this limit but A-A obviously hasn’t.
What TE are you playing with so that I may have a go at it too? Thanks!

Hi, Airtex. Personally, I strongly suspect negative G as a factor

With that in mind, start you game with logs enabled (-mono), fly and when you suspect/experience a hung store. Pause your game and scan your logs and if the logs don’t make sense report back here and please include the logs.
If you find a repro for your suspected issue, also report back here.

Even with the ‘possible fix’ in one of the updates I keep getting hung stores while I shouldn’t have (no over speed/over G etc, pickle button held for the correct duration). Can you PLEASE fix this, BMS is not fun to fly anymore this way.
Hello, reading your concern and as another BMS pilot I understand your question, but before launching (BMS is not fun to fly anymore this way. ) I think the question should be asked and not invoke negative comments about our simulator.
Just a tip.

There does seem to be a bug with hung stores. I tested both my joystick and keyboard, both appear to be working properly but still get the odd hung store and it is not a short press as I always hold down until weapon release and not over G as I hardly ever do that. my 2c.
Seems to be totally random IMO. -

I have done exactly this and sent you log files and what I’ve observed in-game a while ago but you’ve never responded to this.

It was a bit of a puzzle but the bug was found. So don’t throw away your ol’ trusty Cougar, also no need to put in an Otto P1, just a bug hiding in the code since 1998 waiting to strike

@Tumbler31 that meme hits hard… some friends have a high-school aged son, and they are learning C++ in school. that alone boggles my mind… but to make it worse, the teacher seems somewhat clueless. (although I wouldn’t know what else to expect … how many h.s. teachers on planet earth know C++?)
so I have stepped in as “remote tutor” many times, over the past few months.
it’s fun, and an excuse for me to brush up on C++ especially the std stuff that has evolved a lot over past 20 years (and that we never could use in my line of work, anyway). but it’s also a harsh reminder, even the simplest of things like parsing a number from a string, are still inconceivably difficult…
-
@airtex2019 you’d be surprised what we do in high school these days, especially at career centers for “CTE” and “STEM.” I know at mine one of the computer teachers is pretty good with C++, but also get what you are saying about sometimes the teacher being lost. I know the first time I caught BASIC in the aerospace engineering class I used to teach I was learning almost as much as the kids.
The classes I currently teach are a mix of aviation flight and management topics that are dual credit even with one of the universities I have a degree from. Some of my students do get flight time with me and other instructors if they pass their Private Pilot knowledge test.
So to somewhat bring in back on topic, I’ve dabbled enough in C++ to write a program that mostly works with DCS to drive my 3rd Space Vest, but I’m glad that PS Cockpits supports it for BMS So kudos to BMS fixing a 1998 or before bug!!!
-
@Snake122 ok I’m officially jealous of high school kids in your city … we had pilot ground-school classes in college, and C++ there of course, too, but never in high school. the kids today grow up fast… lol

@Mav-jp is it because the cougar pickle button may have inconsistent contact and sometimes registers as a hold-and release-and-hold instead of a constant hold?
