4.37 VR bugs Quest2
-
Hi BMS team,
Im happy to see the new update with the VR implementation and looking forward to further development.
Here are some issues I found after a first small test.My Setup:
Quest2
3090
5800x3dFirst of all performance seems to be perfect so far(only flew for a few minutes though).
Using Virtual Desktop, rolling with my head causes distortion in the image. A guy on discord reported same issue with his G2
Going back to OculusLink the distortion was gone and the image was perfect when looking up/down/left/right or rolling your head, However moving the head forward/backward/sideways (havnt tested horizontal movement) has a slight delay before the camera follows the head movement causing quite some discomfort.
I hope you can address these issues soon, if I can do anything else to test things feel free to write me here or on Discord (Pande4360)
Cheers.

Can you try it hardwired with USB3.0 port? Ill get around to this eventually with my normal VR stuff Quest 2, but my simming headset is a Pimax and that’s what I’m playing with first.
-
forget about having a good experience with Virtual Desktop if you don’t have wifi 6 or a dedicated wifi for your quest 2.
Do that first, we’ll see the rest later…

Let me rephrase
Virtual desktop is running perfecltly fine in performance. The only issue is the distortioon when tilting the head. Same issue confirmed with G2 for one person -
@Snake122 It is hardwired
-
@Pan_de Can you confirm you are disabling AirLink and using cable link? you can connect with VD or AirLink while HardWired.
-
@Pan_de For G2 guy I think you need a reprojection ON. But stream VR has no such option. What your experiencing is missing FPS. I could be wrong but I use to have that in DCS with even my very good PC specs.
Open XR with reprojection ON solved that because it locks your FPS to 45 and does not let it drop.
-
its about distortion which has nothing to do with missing frames but more about rendering aspects
for the other issue shouldnt be fps either im getting full fps

Air link / virtual desktop is probably not recommended by BMS devs so there is one less thing to debug but at least air link works fine for me. Btw this is with wifi 5 (even pc to router is wifi 5) but a better one.
I have the head movement issue too: it is lagging but only head movement, not rotation and the rendered image is not lagging either (e.g. radar cursor on FCR) I assume there is some smoothing on head movement applied in BMS (maybe unintentionally coming from trackir code?).
Additional minor issue: zooming in with the toggle zoom, zooms in but distorts the image, distortion is not updated (or not correctly) for the lower FOV.
Update:
After using the settings in https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/23871/couple-notes-to-vr-users the head movement issue seems to disappeared.Update 2:
I went back to using the rendering thread the head movement lag is back. -
Regarding the video distortion and warp issues, that really is due to virtual desktop and does not occur with Link and Airlink. Nevertheless most issues experienced with VD can only be fixed by the game devs, And since a big portion of quest users rely on VD it would really be nice if the issue could be looked into. (maybe in the end its just a small error that has to be corrected)
When it comes to wireless VR streaming of BMS, i hadn’t had any issues since i use a dedicated WIFI6 card to directly connect my headset with my PC. Any lag experienced when streaming is normally due subpar equipment being used for the wireless connection.
-
@MRTX the delay occurs with link not VD,
wifi 6 isnt even really helpful with VD thats been debunked already -
@Pan_de try disabling parallel render and see if it works well for VD.
-
Better performances on the edge of the screen rendering in the MQ2 with Virtual Desktop (Wifi6) rather than cabled mode.
Question as we’re on it: I have two screens on my comp, a little one for Discord/RTT. The VR monitor in 3D enlarges on both. Is there a way to set that? I’d like to have it only on my main screen (and try to capture video through it…).
-
@chinpok deactivating parralel Rendering worked for fixing the Delay on link.
VD is still being distorted, not a major problem as I can also play without VD. But just for information
-
Will check when back but I don’t remember having issues with the Quest 2 and VD on my setup during testing…
