Pimax Crystal BMS experience
-
Finally got my Pimax Crystal and got it working with BMS, OMG I’m getting solid 90 FPS.
Now the visuals are very clean and colors are popping. It’s like having 2X 4K HDR monitors in each eye. Steam Vr is never my first choice but still very stable.
Other thing I notice was that the mouse is only in one eye in 3d so was the JHMCS.
Anyways looking forward to Open XR support for this title.

Mouse in one eye is a known issue with all VR headsets so far. JHMCS in one eye is realistic.
-
@RISCfuture And you can change which eye JHMCS uses in BMS Config.

@Archer
Not using VR yet, what would Open XR change? -

Not using VR yet, what would Open XR change?Good explanation of the data flow here . You also have the use of the fantastic OpenXR Toolkit and XRNeckSafer…
-
@Icer Right, looks comprehensive. Does it “fix” or improve something BMS for the VR user? Or is it just a matter of avoiding Steam
-
OpenXR would also allow a pathway to use PointCTRL in BMS. @jayb it also can potentially increase performance besides avoiding SteamVR.
-
@RISCfuture But in real life it’s projected on to the visor where both of your eyes can see it.
-
@Archer it’s projected onto the visor but not both eyes. Much like VR that would make collimation issues with individual pilot’s IPD etc.:
“Day module is monocular with a 20 degree field-of-view (FOV) off-the-visor projection to the right eye”
https://jhmcsii.com/technical-detailsMuch simpler to project a for single eye to focused to “infinity”. The only issue is when you are not right eye dominant and very surprised to see the spec sheet here only list right eye. But BMS does have the option to project to the left eye.
Re: the mouse cursor, are you able to use it properly on large FOV? On my 8K X it was so far off of where the clicks were actually happening, it made it completely unusable with the parallel projections unchecked.
-
@Snake122 The mouse cursor is not that big of a issue. I was not unable to make the NeckSafer work.
-
@Archer good to hear its working !
I were unable to make solid 90FPS with my previous VR set (G2 Reverb), also, felt great delays
What PC setup do you have? -
@vAiCon Intel i7 13700K, 64GB DDR5-6000 , Zotac OC 4090 and I think the motherboard is some Asus extreme edition. I’d try to turning off hyper threading in your motherboard. I had lot of issues with it ON in VR.
In DCS with the new DFR and eye tracking I am close to 90FPS with ultra detail on 100% resolution.
-
@Archer What a beast!

You tried VRNecksafer beta 5a, not XRNecksafer, correct? What headset did you come from, and assume the Pimax is a vast improvement? At €1900 here its actually almost the same in cost as the Varjo Aero right now as Aero is including 2 Lighthouses with it…
-
@Archer did you also turn off the E cores in your cpu as well?
-
@Icer Yes VTNecksafe beta 5a. I had the G2 last year. Not sure about about EU but I paid little under 1599$ with tax and shipping & Crystal has inside out tracking. I also looked at buying the Aero, it was around 2100$ with shipping and taxes. I made the pre order of Crystal back in December.
-
@spotdott No just hyper threading was turned off
-
@Archer Do all the 2d screens sit to the hard left for you ? i.e. Front Screen/Campaign Screen etc. Any idea on how to move them would be welcomed, as I am getting a sore neck… lol.
-
@gonk fixed… I just reran the room calibration part… got me… but it is fixed for now.

My hardware review:
Next video I will do a in game and through the lens footage.
