Eurofighter Typhoon Cockpit Overhaul and Enhancement Project
-
Gentlemen,
I have decided to launch a new, dedicated thread for the Eurofighter Typhoon 3D cockpit overhaul and enhancement project for Falcon BMS. I’ll use this thread to keep you updated and will update this opening post with the links to the respective latest release of the Eurofighter Cockpit Package (EFCP).
Background:
The Eurofighter Typhoon 3D cockpit was originally developed by Qawa in 2008, with some minor assistance from myself. It was included in the optional Cockpit Pack released in conjunction with Free Falcon 5.0 in 2009. Due to the lack of a custom cockpit for the Eurofighter Typhoon in Falcon BMS I have decided to reintroduce the cockpit with Qawa’s permission.Contributors:
@qawa (original cockpit and textures + new cockpit display model)
@Chichowalker (New photorealistic textures)
@eddropper (Integration support for OFM Theaters and miscellaneous tipps on tool usage, cockpit wings model from @Manos1981 external 3D model)
@Gadfly (Texture upscaling and image enhancement)
@ccc1tw (Model update to make it convertable to BML format)
@Scorpion82 (Cockpit Model updates, Wing Model tailoring, Canopy model, HUD Model, Cockpit Dat files, further Texture enhancements, documentation, overall project management and integration)The Eurofighter Typhoon 3D cockpit in its present state is compatible with Falcon BMS 4.37.3.
NOTE: The latest state of the Eurofighter Typhoon 3D Cockpit and Advanced Flight Model are always included in the Other Fighter Mafia’s Add-On Theaters, along with additional database updates, which are excluded from this package.
Features:
- Cockpit model with animated throttle, stick and canopy
- Cockpit wings model
- Custom cockpit HUD model (NVG compatible)
- Cockpit flood lights
- Cockpit Mirrors
- F-16 cockpit legs model
- Photorealistic Textures (2048 x 2048 for main textures) resembling a Tranche 2/3 single seat aircraft’s cockpit layout
- Customised DASS Format on Centre MHDD
- Dedicated Warning Panel
- Partially dynamic Softkeys, Moding Keys, Sub-System Keys etc. with highlight bars and changing legends
- Several status and warning captions on the MHDDs and side consoles
- ~400 cockpit switch functions, fully rampstartable
- 44 pages manual incl. rampstart checklist
- Installation guide
Limitations:
- Still some graphical glitches and certainly room for model improvement
- No animated switches (switcholgy is designed to support unambigous selection of specific switch states, see manual for more details)
- Indicators functionality somewhat limited
Possible future enhancements:
- New indications (HSI with HDG/CRS readouts etc.)
- Further texture and model updates
- Updates to stay aligned with future versions of Falcon BMS
Disclaimer:
The cockpit and the Advanced Flight Model included in the package are approved to be used by the BMS Team and any Theater developers.Have a good start into 2024!

Congratulations for this beautiful project
have fun

Wonderfull job! Congrats!
Is it possible to put a “moving map” on the center display?
-
Hi thank you so much for this. Short feedback. I think in the installation files you provided there is a mixup of the content in the /Textures EFckptTex.txt and EFhudTex.txt .
I followed the manual very closely an got the Hud, Wing Modell, Upfront Panel to work. However I can’t get the left and right console to work. There is no real texture. I tripple checked everything, yet it doesn’t work. (All in Stock KTO) Also there is no canopy visible.
Again thank you very much

the side console textures are copy pasted into your KoreaObj folder? When some parts are textured and the others are not, it typically means there is a wrong assignment. In the cas eof doubt you can open the cockpit models Model_0.lod with the Lod Editor. Double click on “Root” and click on the “Output Texture File” in the window. You can create your own “EFckptTex.txt” this way. Edit the texture numbers in there.
Can you post a screenshot of the missing canopy?
-
Thanks. A MMD would certainly be great, albeit I currently have no idea, if and how something like that could be done. In the past it was possible to emulate it in 2D cockpits.
-
I checked everything again. Lod seems to be fine and the textures are as written in the manual.
This is what I’m talking about:
Canopy
Cockpit
-
There is clearly a wrong texture assigned to the cockpit model. Please list how you renamed the 9711 to 9714.dds and show me the first 4 entries of your EFckptTex.txt.
For the next version I’ll include an excel file to automatically remap new numbers on the slots. Should simplify the process.
The second screenshot is the external model and not the cockpit model. Use the search function of the forum “Eurofighter missing canopy”. That issue is not related to the cockpit. The solution was some graphics settings, if I recall correctly.
-
@Fieters-0 I had the same problem because I didn’t follow properly the step by step guide of Scorpion82. Check the texture’s number again.
-
@Scorpion82 Ahh copy that regarding the canopy. These are my numbers:

In your case, 2 should to be 9536 and 3 9535. I had the same mistake.

Can report a good fix. Thank you very much

Glad that you have solved the issue, suspected it were these numbers, @Dardo_01 beat me to it.
I have good news, as I have now created an updated package. More about it in the next post, to which I’ll link to from the opening post as well.

Gentlemen,
I have created an updated version of the Eurofighter Cockpit Package version 1.2.1.
The difference between this and the previous v1.2 is that I have completely revised the structure of the EFCP to make it more userfriendly. Based on the experience above, and I suppose the one or other may struggle with it as well, the following changes have been introduced:
1.) There is now an “Installations” folder included. Herein you’ll find two Zip files named EFCP_4.37.2.zip and EFCP_4.37.3.zip.
2.) I have included Parent subfolders numbered 11000 through 11005 and the DDS image files are now numbered 11001 through 11007. These parents and dds numbers should not be used in any existing theater and therefore don’t interfere. That means you save yourself the lengthy manual process of model texture assignment changes and parent folder creation! It is nevertheless your responsibility as a user to verify the actual usage of parent numbers and dds numbers in your target theater!
3.) If you have verified that the above mentioned parent and dds numbers ARE NOT IN USE, you can simply extract the EFCP_4.37.3.zip on the target directory. For the EFCP_4.37.2.zip you first need to extract the 3D database and then extract the ZIP onto the target theater and thereafter rebuild the 3D database.
4.) Only if the numbers are already used, or if you want to add the cockpit to other variants of the aircraft, for example the Balkans theater includes some additional variants, you have to perform some manual work.
5.) To ease the process I have included an excel spreadsheet where you can enter the renamed DDS files and parent folder numbers and it updates the texture slots and 3dckpit.dat entries. You simply mark and copy the entries into the respective files. You’ll find the new excel spreadsheet and the Texture import “TXT” files under the EFCP\TOOLS folder now.
6.) For further details refer to the Installation Guide under EFCP\Docs, which has been considerably updated and includes a CASE 1 Installation procedure (EFCP Default Parent/DDS numbers unused) and CASE 2 Installation procedure (EFCP Default Parent/DDS numbers are used or additional variants to be covered)
The link to the new version is in the opening post.
Best regards

Just a progress update on the cockpit. Having worked a bit on the external model with @Manos1981 permission, I have now returned to working on the cockpit.
In line with the model work a mirror data update has been performed. The seat pan in the cockpit model has been altered (some minor adjustments still needed) and I have started to work on the DWP captions, adjusting the existing ones to properly align with the display. I have implemented the “Canopy not locked” and “Seat Not Armed” captions into Typhoon’s left MHDD, mimicing the equivalent captions shown on the real aircraft’s ACUE start-up format.
Some development test screen shots:

Any request for new callbacks? (will not promise, just asking )
-
thanks for asking. At the moment there are enough existing switches that I need to work on.
-
@Scorpion82 let us know if you have any non confidential information that you want to share.
-
@Scorpion82 the delta-canard wings are not enough forward…
-
thanks, I know but that’s currently low on my agenda. The cockpit model and cockpit wings model are not the best match. Might be fixable within the wings model.
