Updating some 3d models for ground vehicles
-
@Betto man… you have some skills… Your M60A3 is AMAZING!!! In my opinion, you don’t need to add ERA, i think the M60 is more “cool” without it. But… Is your model…
Thanks for the work!!! It is fantastic!
-
@VDK i think i can make a version with ERA and one without it, thanks a lot man i appreciate this
-
thank you for this!
-
Looking good!
How many triangles BTW? -
@Xeno said in Updating some 3d models for ground vehicles:
@Topo-0 Yep, but do we want to get stuck in low quality models for eternity? Also many 3D artists are more discouraged by limits put on their work than amount of work needed to get things exactly how they wanted it to be.
BTW poly count is less of a problem since new 3D model format was introduced. Now draw call count is the arch-enemy.
Can we consider this comment as a confirmation that the presented PT-76 preview with its detail with the highest LOD is feasible and similar will be the new “standard” for ground vehicles?
-
@I-Hawk the m60 has booleans that increase the total triangles without affecting the space that the tank occupies if downloaded or if implemented, the tank in its current state is only 62 KB
-
@Betto triangle count he means, on blender you can:
Check the Statistics box in the Viewport Overlays to get those counts back, though in a different location.
If you need to see them at the bottom right of the screen you can enable the information using System > Preferences, and in the Interface section enable the information you want to view as part of the Status Bar
-
@okayasugf yep for now he has 100k triangles for the fact that there are booleans

Hi guys, just a quick update for the models, the pt76 and M60A3 are finished but thanks to @okayasugf and his advice I have to rework the models a lot to fit BMS and the standards for the number of triangles that needs to be lowered. I decided to leave those 2 models there for a while to start another vehicle that would satisfy that modeling request so as not to waste too much time. Thanks everyone for the advice and let me know which tank i should do!
-
@Betto good decision! cant wait to see you breathe these one’s to life aswell, and the one you’re proceeding to do
-
So quick update, I’m currently modeling the 2S1 and I’m working on the triangles and I have to admit that I didn’t expect to get such details with so few polygons, considering that what you see is the final shape of the tank, only external parts with details are missing to 2000 triangles
-
@Betto Just wish to ask. What program do you create your models in, and do you use blueprints, photographs or what. These look really good by the way.
-
@Bird_2 thanks, I actually use Blender for modelling and yes I use blueprints for reference
-
@Betto Cool. I have blender but I just goof around in it. I might try to model something as well but I might start with a trash bin or something. Thanks for the info it gives me some motivation to improve. Hope to see your models in game someday.
-
@Bird_2 the goal is to improve BMS even further and make a contribution to the simulator like many others are doing, I’m very happy to be an inspiration to you, thank you very much

modeling the 2S1
Nice job! Some Artillery systems need some modeling
Great job man!
-
@VDK thanks a lot!
-
Awesome work!
We really need some better poly SAM models! The radars in particular for some are really outdated and they are what are viewed the most in the sim.
Also various artillery and MLRS - seeing as north korea have so many mobile surface-to-surface launchers.
-
@Dusty SAM’s will be reworked too
-
The 2S1 is complete, obviously missing the more refined textures (dirt, rust) which will be added to everyone when I reach a number of complete vehicles that satisfies me. Having said this, the 2S1 is the first tank that currently meets the BMS requirements for the number of triangles which are currently 39k, enjoy!
