F-14D Cockpit

Thanks for all the nice comments guys, they really help!
I just started to try to make the pit night compatible and I’ve ran into serious trouble right away. I will try to explain some of the symptoms to see what you think.
1. FACT - the pit works during the day but if I create a night mission it will only load partially and with the original (before modding) values of the tomcat pit.
2. FACT - if I modify the .dat files in ckpitartn with the new .dat files the pit will load completly but with some issues (will explain further down).
3. CONCLUSION - the tomcat pit looks still for information in the ckpitartn folder. From what I understood from other threads this is not normal behaviour as we should completly ignore ckpitartn folder as it is only relevant for 2d pits. What could this be due to?
4. FACT - on top of the issues mentioned above there is a problem with my pit at night (either fully or partially loaded). Flight seems to go well when I’m looking straight ahead but when I look to the sides the image freezes, game is still running and I can still hear sounds, but it’s like the image stops refreshing and froze. If I turn my head and look straight ahead everything goes back to normal!?! Could this be in relation with the rest of the issues?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!
Pepe
I can confirm the issue.

Fantastic. I can’t help you. But i see you great work. And it’s very good

Guys,
Small weekend update….I´ve struggled the whole day with a massive hangover but I got some work done.
I´ve done some more testing with the pit at night. Is good to know that ckpitartn issue is normal behaviour, I´ve also checked and it seems the image freezing when looking to the sides issue is related to the NVGs, it doesn’t happen without NVGs on, so that’s another clue!
I´ve modified the floodlighting to orange and also managed to illuminate my first panel (in orange too)! Its hard to get any pictures of the tomcat pit in general so to get any shot of the pit at night is just impossible. I´m not sure what colour the illumination should be or how the instruments should be lit. If anybody has any good reference pictures that could help me to sort out a realistic lighting I would be grateful, either similar instruments or aircraft of the same time/maker (Grumman).
Thanks!
Pepe

Wonderful pit sir!

That cockpit is getting every day better!! I think that when it will be released I’ll move to carrier ops with the Tomcat
-
Damn, that thing looks sexy Great work mate…

check this pdf
congratulations for your hard work
cheers

Thanks Dema but I had it already!!
Found these…seems I wasnt too far off assuming orange!
Grumman A-6
GD F-111

Arty,
Thanks for your reply! Did you have to do this for the F-16 pit? What about the other flyable pits?
So contrary to what everybody is saying ckpitartn is still functional…
Pepe
For all the pits.

Also the canopy opens and closes now which adds to the immersion and the “cool” factor (thanks to Wavey Dave for this as I was doing it wrong!). I love how the frame wraps around and integrates with the consoles. Once I add the canopy reflections its gonna be awesome! :headb:

Have a good evening guys!
Pepe
Hi, in case you do not know what kind of surface pType for canopy reflections, try using pType 26, and 20% of opacity more or less in the texture.
Best regards

Pepe…this is a dream come true…looking f§$%&/(ing insainely good that pit!!! I recommend putting on Deep Purple - Child In Time when taking a ride around ‘mother’:)))
Just a note on the lighting color, you guys talked about the orange/amber lighting…here’s a screenshot of the F-14A pit by ‘can’t recall his name’ dutch guy, hugely talented pitmaker who sold/sells his pits on his site…
so the color isn’t that far off. Either way my point is actually about the color itself, being a huge BMW fan and driver I know that the reason the interior lights on all BMWs are light red/orange/amber, whatever you wanna call it, is that they derived it from the aviation cockpit night design because apparently when using that color the human’s eye focus/refocus upon looking away from the outside onto a dial and back is allowing for the fastest adjustment. Hence, in aviation that color is often (always?) used as to maximize the focus time when flying (driving) at night…so my guess is that that is in fact the color used on the backlight of the dials in most aircraft. Please correct me if I’m going off into space here
-
The Intruder has more dials than my old car I give you that
Sorry for spamming just had to throw that in there…GREEEEAT to see you back at it Pepe!!!
EDIT: that is the F111 pit of course, either way if you take the A-6 pit picture and check the color frequency, it’s the same only the exposure due to the much lighter environment cuz it’s not as dark outside makes the color look more like a light red and less orange/red. I’m betting this is all the same frequency - the A-6, the F-111 and the bimmer
EDIT2: The site I was referring to is www.cockpits.nl if anyone is interested, still cannot recall the guy’s name, sorry.

It’s Aeyes.

What can I say…You the man! With the memory I miss your freefalcon signature…such a classic!
by the way the color wavelength is 602nm

Morning…
Metalhead thanks for the info, I did manage some reflections on the canopy on the old version of the canopy frame but its a great reminder! Thanks!
Stingray…thanks for the kind words and the info about lighting. Congratulations to yourself…your skins are looking great!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Gents….
Wasn’t in the mood of modelling today…so I did a small vid nothing fancy but some small details…enjoy
I’m having some trouble with the wind shield glass behind the hud, maybe somebody can give me a hand. Basically when I put the windshield with some transparency and some reflections the HUD projection disappears. It seems like the wind shield object is hiding the HUD information (projected in infinity). Anyone knows how to solve this? There has to be a way as the F-16 does the same thing. Any help would be appreciated!
Good night!
Pepe

Put the screen in the cockpitcanopymodel.
In the ckcpit.dat file there should be a cockpitcanopymodel 9999 entry. This is the parent number of a model that has the canopy and rtt surfaces. There should be a separate model for the HUD.
