Cockpit wings model for F-16C25-D52 (Correct nose shape)
-
Oh whoops, I didn’t notice the pilot model. Installing the LVN models without the new skins results in a similar effect, though.
-
I installed wings model of Blk 52 and got the nose shaped like the one of Skwabie’s (see #1). The nose is rough and angular and the colour is also not proper (see my scrrenshot below).
I believe the nose shapes got by Demo (#25) and RPG (#57) are correct. So, anyone know the reason? -
If you know anything about LOD editor you can make it more detailed. I think if you look through this thread they will tell you how to do it. If you need help let me know.
Post 67 tells you how to do it

So after spending 3 long frustrating hours teaching myself how to use the Edit Model screen in LE (in figuring out what does what), I finally figured it out, and it does only take 5mins to do. You can do it in less by rotating, but there appear to be some big consequences of doing it, so I wouldn’t recommend others (like me who aren’t familiar with nodes/DOFs/switches) try it unless they know what they’re doing :D. Not to mention things said by MavJP earlier in this thread.
But, the test did show me one thing.
With the update made so the nose can be seen if you sit higher than normal, you still cannot see it sitting in the normal position. For example, this is the view I get when I center my track IR (keep in mind I already made the 5 degree change to the model so I can see the nose):

This is what I see in the same pit when I sit up high in my desk chair:

Block 25 - no IFF antennas
http://1stfightergroup.com/Public/2013-08-22_211434.jpgAnd since the model is already there in default BMS, seeing it doesn’t impact FPS. Personally I like it a lot more because it doesn’t feel like I’m flying a dashboard, and even though I don’t see it in normal flight, I like knowing it’s there when I lean up and forward. Plus it will look cool for screenshots and videos lol. The other cool part was that different blocks have different noses (some have the bird slicers/IFF antennas and others don’t).
Anyhow, I will wait and see if the people who know what they’re doing with LE can do it without screwing up other things fingers crossed. You can see the parent for the model by going into the 3dckpit file for that block and get the parent # next to this: cockpitwingsmodel
It seems hard for a rookie to be good at using Lod editor to modify the original nose model posted by Skwabie, which is still rough and angular. While I’m still learning how to use Lod editor, can Demo share your nose model showed at #60 as .lod files? What I care about is not the angle of the noses but the texture where Demo and RPG did pretty well in. Thanks a lot!
I finally understood what I should do recently. Below is the result I got. No obvious error here. Thanks for everyone.
My method to get upper effect is pretty easy: https://www.mediafire.com/?bfxd5lfiq4hm76n
Pay attention that I rotated 301.subtree with Y= -5.00 degree in those .LOD files. That is not consist with what I wrote in my explanation. Suggestions are welcome. -
@RPG:
Well if your adjusting blk 50 (1196) then try selecting very bottom subtree (302 I think its called), this will select more than nose but its easier and I can’t notice any graphical glitch doing this either, but try it and see how you go?, so block select that (subtree 302), from tools select ‘model-rotate’, in the pop up window change Y 0.00 to Y -5.00 and check the ‘selected’ circle thing before pressing the rotate button, then save lod……then go fly block 50 and see if you notice any errors?.
Note that with new JasHas models there is no need to do this as the god himself has fixed this problem.

Your word “the model is already there in default BMS” lets me understood what I should do. But I achieved it just by rotating. I didn’t find any obvious consequence you mentioned. Can you make more explanation?

There’s something that I don’t understand.
Can see alot of very good work in here, but most of them requiring people to use LE in order to use their work.
I see this as a drop back for all this serious efforts work, at least for the majority of us, not used/ no knowledge about LE.
Question:
Is that so difficult to publish your good work in a form of ready to replace files (including proper info about what/where to be replaced), and that way any of us (with/without knowledge of LE) can install and use easily your work???
Thankyou,
Cheers. -

I was referring to only rotating the nose and not any other part of the model. If you rotate any other part, things that attach to the model will not be in the correct position. I didn’t use any modified textures. What you see in that older post was stock… different F-16 blocks have different skins or don’t have the IFF antennas by default. But I agree, the default model has a better looking nose/IFF antennas than the first post, and my post is several months old. I use a rotated nose in my install.

Hello everyone. I started working on this myself tonight and have it working well on my system. I thought I would help others out and upload what I’ve accomplished as well as how I went about it. The archive in the link includes the original files released by Skwabie as well as backup files from the database that are named _original. I then included my modified files and instructions with screen caps on how to do it yourself. My settings are based on a triple screen setup with 120 degree FOV so they may not work for you. The instructions though, will show you how to use LOD Editor and make your own adjustments to Skwabie’s orginal files. Thanks for this MOD, this was an awesome addition!

@DEMO this try is the same with yours?
if not can you release the modified default lod?

No, I didn’t create the model and only rotated the nose so not mine to post. Didn’t aacat1 say he already posted his?
OK. I uploaded my modified .LOD file and also the detaild processes to get those rotated nose: https://www.mediafire.com/?bfxd5lfiq4hm76n

Hi,
I’m still confused to mod the nose shape.
I have found a pdf where is an explanation, but I do not know if it for one single LOD or do I have to use more then one and repeating the changes with LOD-editor.So, which file(s) I have to use for the correct nose shape and how?
Can someone please help me?TIA

Noone?
Ok, another question:
If I make a mistake…, which files are modified with LOD-editor? And is it enough to replace the modified files to have the previous state?TIA
Earlybite -
Backup the files in \Data\terrdata\objects. (or in any \objects folder from the theater in which you want to change the lod). Simply placing this backup back will undo your changes.

EarlybiteBack up objects folder then you can restore, ideally you should make a full back up of the installed FalonBMS 4.32 folder right after a fresh install of BMS…Anyway, I’m away from pc ATM but if you download Skwabies mod on first page of thread it will tell you the lod numbers you need to change for each block f16, there is only one lod to change for each aircraft (example: 3111 for block 52)…edit lod, block select last subtree, then model rotate the Y axes -5 with ‘selected’ dot thing checked, save lod, done, 1 minutes work.
