BMS Family Feud time!

Memory
-
If I’m current & comfortable, from memory, then a quick glance at the checklist to ensure all that I’ve done is per checklist.
If I’m not current, checklist all the way.
-
As my “memory” most times eludes me these days, I keep the checklist handy at all times
Though in RL checklists are mandatory before you even approach the aircraft, unless your flying a Red jet……LOL!!!demer

Memory. Love the three sweep process.
-
a german combat pilot told me, in their squad they were free to chose between two ways:
- read-and-do the c/l
- by heart, thereafter verify with c/l
personally, when simming, i do it by heart. using sweeps, it is easy to build a routine and be very quick. after some time, you start to notice, if a switch is not where it is supposed to be anyway.
(most of the time :))cheers,

What’s this supposed to mean?
-
Since I once forgot a major one on a Lowland Tigermeet mission (air source to Norm) where I lost the jet, I always use a checklist.
-
sounds like it’s gonna make a difference in the future. I welcome this very much!

What’s a Ramp Start ? Cant find it on the check list.

Maybe they mispelled ?

You should spoiler that, or someone should mark this thread NSFW.

Of all those who do ramp starts, how many do the system tests which are unnecessary?
-
on rampstart always by heart… but i verify everything at least once before take off…
all system checks as per red dog’s checklist by heart even the unnessesary ones… you never know if they will operate in a future version… -
I do all the ‘unneccessary checks’ which never fail. Even air refueling checks are done, even if for that flight I’m not going to air refuel.
I would even do the O2 checks, but the switches don’t work other than the OXY BIT. -
I tend to just do the quick version of a ramp start. I don’t really get much time to play anymore so i usually end up going straight to runway, but hopefully in the next few weeks life will slow down a bit and I’ll have more time to get back into it.

personally, i skip system tests, as long as random failures arent implemented.
the question remains anyway, what would be the consequences of random failures?
fly anyway? call “maintenance” and consult a minimum equipment list to decide whether you can go on mission with the failure : ) ? cancel the flight and get “mission success”, because you found the error? get another airplane?cheers,

that is a good question… i 've had a flameout 2-3 times during combat(one of those cost me my A/C) but nothing serious… i think most of the faults during ramp will be solved by running the test again…(ie flcs bit fault…) other than that… i don’t have a clue…!
-
It could be the airsource not being set to Norm. It happened to me (see previous posting) and I got a flame-out while pulling g’s.
-
Not Airsource, Engine feed. Airsource will create TRP fuel, not the same thing.
-
If you do a ramp start, I assume you go for realism (as far as possible given sim limitations and BMS implementations). Therefor, I would think you also do the necessary tests, even if they are only eye candy.
At least, that’s how I feel about it, and try to push that view in our sqn
Same goes for checking switch positions. Most of them are in the right position when entering pit. However, once one has a physical simp it for example, correct position of the switches is vital. So I do this already to teach myself a good habit just in case future brings a simp it and/or more checks in BMS that could influence your flight if you forgot anything.
Compare it to what we have already. If you don’t set tank feeding or air source correctly you might end up with issues airborne. If BMS 4.X in the past didn’t have that implemented, would you have skipped it? In that case, you end up with an incomplete ramp start from memory in a newer version with those things implemented.
I even note mentally I would have needed to check ANT SEL switches and set anti ice etc, which aren’t implemented (yet?).
