HUD MFD repeater
-
is there a way to do it without the FLIR?
hornet has no FLIR settings, so the HUD fix to the MFD seems unapplicable. Hornet HUD needs a bit of help, but also, just wondering about the feature across all jets.
Is there a way to slave a repeater from the hud to the MFD. someone explain me some stuff, I’m dumb.
-
You can set up a HUD page on your MFD via the data cartrige.
-
Afirmmative…I can find that in WDP. But I can’t find the button to just select the HUD on the MFD that is there in FAF…bummer!
-
oh wow, you can’t go back from hud or rwr on the mfds, in saying, once you’ve got those in, thats what they do.
better than nothing. how does this work in RL?
-
Evidently it doesn’t work in the F-16 like it does in some USN jets I’m familiar with…but if the selection works in WDP, what I’ll be doing from now on is to insure that HUD is one of my selections on each MFD in NAV Master Mode. That way I’ll have at least that backup, and maybe it works this way in RL in the Viper?
Remember - WDP will allow three toggled selections on each display for each Master Mode; A/A, NAV, and A/G.
Update - I verified just now that with BMS 4.33 you can get a HUD option on your MFD if you select HUD as a display option in Weapon Delivery Planner. Works like I’d expect it to, and really slick using the DMS switch to toggle displays. But you also get a HUD push button, so you can use that too.
Seems like it’s not there in the basic install, but mission planning lets you do it. Very nicely.

I just did it in the data cartridge screen and it’s there…big freaking help, nice to have the ability to repeat your HUD, also if your MFD and HUD goes out with the HUD on it, I had this happen last night in a BAI when i sucked on a sam, I just hit the swap button.
I read somewhere long ago that the tendency of HUDS to fail in flight has made this option a must. I was having problems with the altitude and airspeed ladders being outside of the frame on the hornet but there are so many backup uses for this.
-
Yes…it would seem very silly indeed to me if you couldn’t do this. Sort of surprised that this isn’t widespread knowledge - pass it on!

There’s no HUD mfd in the real viper.

There’s no HUD mfd in the real viper.
Mostly true but not 100%. In a two seat model it is possible to get the HUD video on the right MFD in the aft cockpit. This is not an option on the single seat model though.

I would even suspect that this is dependent on which Block single or two seat Viper we’re talking about. And I’d be very surprised if you could only get it on one specific MFD…what I’m also left wondering is if the option has to be enabled via the DTU, just like for BMS. Which would be neat, if BMS got that right!

Video, not only the HUD symbology. And BMS shows the symbology only when changing a certain setting. So that isn’t realistic.
-
…so…just to clarify - I’m not really talking about “video”…if I understand things, the head-up repeater in the back seat is actual video of the primary HUD from a camera. What I’m talking about in putting on an MFD isn’t that - it’s the raster HUD image that would be otherwise be driving the forward HUD optics. And that’s what I should think one should be able to put on any MFD anywhere - given that the MC software is written to allow it.
That’s totally realistic, and all USN jets with glass in the cockpit that I’ve ever worked on can do this. Which is why not being able to do it in an F-16 seems “silly”, to me. But I’m willing to give that may not all of them can - maybe just from a certain Block/tape and up.
-
As I said, they can’t. Not DTC loadable either.
Maybe block 60 could have it, I don’t know about that tape, but the rest 99% sure that they won’t. They don’t fail very often though so it’s no problem.
-
I’ll settle for this departure from “reality” for now. I rather like it.
-
Like it or not it’s the only way for home pit builders to create a realistic HUD.
Use a small high bright contrast monitor or mini projector and project on a glass area mirrored.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

You’re mixing things up Arty.
The question was if the F-16 can replicate the HUD symbology on an MFD page.
You are talking about extraction of the symbology to reflect it on a HUD glass.
Two totally different things. The first can be done via a setting in BMS but not Viper realistic; the second can be done with BMS extraction, MFDE or YAME etc. -
I’m not mixing it m8.
It’s clear that and how it works in real. Stevie was Crystal clear.
But if u want a HUD in your home pit u need the repeater.
Having it real means it must be coded.
In shared memory library iirc it passes the MFD HUD and not the actual HUD.
So… One cancels the other.
Coders must work on this internal and external coders, beta testers…
Besides the real there is and the practical issues in our beloved sim. So they are mixed by definition.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Yeap guys u know better. as i said IIRC.
