Is it possible to set what the active runway is?

As a pilot its not your job to provide a service for ATC. The job for ATC is to provide a service for the pilots.
I wonder what would happen at CDG if you request a specific runway for take off instead of then one instructed by the ATC ?

That is very easy to answer. You will ask it because you have a reason to do so.
As long as the runways is not closed or any other other valid reason exist that ATC can not do that, you will get the runway you ask for.
It might take a little time so you will ask in advance so ATC has time to organise, but you will get it.
Happens a lot I can tell you.Gr Falcas

Example from yesterday. Or assigned STAR was on one side of the APT, asked for the other side due to weather.
And sure we got what we needed. -
Doesn’t count. What would any ATC refuse to à BMS dev? And anyway Mav probably coded these guys himself, so…

Sure this all counts. Inside the team we do a lot of these discussions (sometimes too much ;).)
What is happening in RL, what can be done with the current code, what makes sense, what and how would we want it to work.
Yes this all takes a lot of time.Gr Falcas

What is sure is that for alpha testing i use all the time wind and ils configuration to choose my take off runway
Never ever had a problem to choose the runway I wanted
On the other hand you need to ask yourself if in a real airbase you would choose your runway or abide ATC instructions
I remember from the past that changing ILS works. I forgot about that, but Falcas reminded me of it with his post. But I think something weird happened in my install from what I explained in my previous post. Somehow after I created a new TE, all my missions that I created started on 34R. Before I made that new TE, they starten from 34L. After I did the test TE with one destroyed runway, they now start back on 34L again.
it’s not so much the runway that matters for me. I fly with an F-16 from the California guard most of the time. And units usually have a fixed place on the airfield…Guard units usually have their own section on a commercial airfield. So for my TE’s I just like to start every flight from the same location. And on Choongwon if you start on the 34L side, you start in front of the hangars when you ramp start. So that’s why I asked the question.

Changing the ILS runway does work - what is not so obvious is which of the four assignments relates to which runway. This seems to be very much dependent on the runway IDs as set up in the RnwyDimListType and RunwayListType fields. I’ve spent a lot more time than I probably needed to messing around with these. In the end I settled on setting an ILS frequency to all four - 110.30 110.40 110.50 110.60 then flying around until I was sure which frequency related to which runway - before editing the stations+ils.dat file as required.

Well if you are still editing this file with a notepad… MC has this covered for many years already

yes, I discovered yesterday in MC that it’s easier to see which ILS goes to which runway. That was very helpful. Although for me it didn’t change anything. But I think it’s just something weird in my install.

I am slowly getting to grips with MC - I am currently on the Objectives tab
Seriously though, I wish I knew this sooner, could have saved me a bucket load of time - thanks again.
