Can an experienced sim airman walk me through a flameout procedure?
-
in text is fine, or point me to a resource?
I’ve had a few now, and I’ve never been able to recover, I either never get electric back, or the jsf won’t spin up past 30.
My MO has been as such:
throttle to idle
Master off
wait till 300 IAS and less than 5% rpm
master on
jsf start 2
wait for 30%
throttle to 70%
detent
???profit?
am I doing something wrong, besides getting shot in the first place?

Were you in the start domain ? (emergency checklist)
-
If you flame out due to battle damage it probably isn’t coming back. Practice with an intentional throttle lever shutoff.
-
In my experience, after combat damage sometimes it will start and sometimes it wont. I didnt see anything wrong with your steps. However do try different positions of the ENG FEED switch. Also although it happens automatically if armed, ensure the EPU is active.
-
On the opposite, I don’t understand most of the steps here.
Why Master Fuel off then on ?
Why wait for 300 IAS and less than 5% RPM ? This can only make the airstart take longer.Besides, I’ve just checked : those steps are not described as required in Red Dog’s Dash 1 and Emergency Checklist.

IRL … follow the checklist (can also apply in BMS).
In BMS …
- Cycle the throttle forward, then to idle;
- Move the throttle forward about 1/3rd;
- Click Idle Detent (ALT-I or 3D clickable);
- If the engine spools, throttle up;
- If the engine doesn’t spool, try again and/or pray and/or eject.
That has always worked for me in BMS if the engine is able to restart. Not saying it’s ‘correct’, just saying it works.
-
If the engine doesn’t spool up, you can also use the JFS to help it, provided you’re under 20,000 ft and 400 KCAS.

Hi,
I think you will find that pressing idle detent on 20%, instead of 30% Will work (of course depending on the fact that the damage is not too severe as mentioned before).
From the trainings manual;
Move on to the ENG & JET START panel. The JFS switch is moved to
START2 (right-click once); the JFS RUN light comes on after a few seconds
and RPM increases steadily to 20%. At that point check that the SEC caution
light is off and move the throttle forward (if you have the Idle Cutoff config option
ticked or press the idle detent callback) and monitor lights and engine gauges -
