IFF quiestion

I have a question regarding IFF.
Does anybody know what will trigger the VMU to say “IFF!”
We have been testing this and to my understanding you would get the “IFF” if you were interrogated in mode 4 and your jet did not respond correctly for some reason. (and you have set AUD in your IFF page) However the only audio indication we get is a low humming sound, and NOT the “IFF”?We have tested this in the MLU and blk 52

The sound existed in .33 as well, I wouldn’t be surprised it’s still not used.
-
IFF message is not operable in flight . Message is heard during ground test.

the sound exist from the beginning of Falcon4.0 I think

Which function the IFF ground sound check’s
If the IFF is operational? or power on?

Just VMU check, with the rest of VMU messages (CAUTION / LOCK / DATA and so on).

Yet it’s a good question
What would be the purpose of Betty calling IFF ? -
She wanted it implemented. You can remove the sound now :P.
More seriously, is there an opportunity for every word Betty says in the BIT? I didn’t check it all, but without listening to everything again, I think there are at list a couple things that could be strictly cosmetic or ear-candy (and it tastes good in the ears). -

What would be the purpose of Betty calling IFF ?To my understanding, same as what Nil was expecting; Someone interrogated your jet for M4 mode, and you jet didn’t reply (or sent wrong reply?) and your IFF backup panel has the correct switch set to audio, if you are in CNI BU; of your IFF via UFC is set to AUD if CNI in UFC.

What would be the purpose of Betty calling IFF ?Maybe on earlier transponder, the AUDIO tone was not a tone depending on interrogation rate (as it is now) but a simple VMU message.

But according to the MLU M3 documentation, the “IFF” call is not in the VMU anymore.
Aural Warnings
There are 10 Voice Message Unit (VMU) messages that may be heard through the headset: “Altitude, Altitude”, “Low”, “Out”, “Chaff, Flare”, “Counter”, “Data”, “Lock”, “Bingo, Bingo”, “Pull-up, Pull-up”, and “Jammer, Jammer.” -
Yep, it would make sense
especially with the IFF bit removed from the VMU bitit would then lead to the next question: is the actual IFF AUD bit included in the VMU bit
-
The IFF message, like the JAMMER message, is deprecated and not in use for USAF jets. The VMU doesnt operate on the ground, aside from the MAL & IND LTS button.
Which function the IFF ground sound check’s
If the IFF is operational? or power on?
It indicates the VMU is operating correctly, when you press and hold the MAL & IND LTS button and verify each VMU message is heard in the correct priority sequence.

Let me know if you get an answer … I will fix it.

Active BAF pilot confirmed me they still here the IFF call during MAL & IND LT test but has never heard it during flight, only the caution panel warning. Although he didn’t explicitly said his UFC IFF page was set to AUD of course, but I assume he knew what exactly I was asking

Block 10-15 only
IFF - Advises that the IFF code should be changed. -

For BAF I already knew it … But thank you very much for input Focaldesign.
