What's up with those rumors

Yes Korea is flat only in Falcon world. The KTO area is actually full of mountains all over.
I took a comparison flight in FSX some years back. Flew the same flight plan in BMS to see the difference - the C block 40 (I think 4.33? Perhaps .32). Kunsan to Seosan, first in the Evektor Sportstar in FSX, then the BMS flight. The difference in topology was phenomenal. Hills all along the coast, autogen scenery… it also really drove home the speed of the F-16 for me. That flight took me 54 minutes in the Sportstar, an aircraft I’m familiar with and fly from time to time outside simulators… So I have that gut feeling of how far you fly in 54 minutes.
I knew it before, but this flight was the point where I felt the difference. The BMS flight took 7 minutes and I wasn’t even trying for speed or anything… could have gone faster but I was too busy revelling in the sense of speed and power.
There was another thing BMS did far better, too… Both Kunsan and Seosan in BMS look far nicer than FSX, Kunsan in particular still looks better than even up to date P3D as I discovered the other week. The folks who put the effort into building BMS’ airbases really helped the sim shine.

To date, 11 ROK (not including Kunsan, Osan, and Kimpo), 2 DPRK, and 1 Japanese airbase have been remodelled. They will never compare to the professionally available out there, but they should offer some improvement over the 20 year old stockers.

I agree an update to the terrain would be a nice upgrade, that adding more precise elevation changes would certainly make a large difference in the feeling of speed and distance to the ground. But then what to do in flatter areas? The biggest impediment to the feeling of speed and elevation, and it’s always been the case in textured ground mapping regardless of the sim, is that there is no perspective change with the texture alone. A flat ground texture does not change appreciably with perspective. The solution is populating the ground with many more 3d objects, which helps in ‘adding’ back the perspective we lose when looking things on a flat monitor.

IMHO … auto gene is the key.
-
+1 on auto gen aka procedural.
Rules for this can be configurable or scripted which will bring ultimate variation on theaters.
Rule 1 for super trooper pc
Rule 2 for recommended pc
Rule 3 for min pc specs
No rule no procedural. And a nice community coder can create a gui with things grouped and with sliders to play around…

The most flattest terrain on planet Earth is large bodies of water. Even deserts and open planes have graduations and undulations. They are subtle. As you approach and pass that terrain feature, your sense of speed will be there, even on a so called flat terrain.

I do not agree. I should I say, sensations of speed and more critical, sensation of alititude are wrong over such terrain. Water, desert, and large and dense forest are “dangerous” in low level flight.

Even on flat terrain, considering high enough texture resolution, you can create details from either usual (Diffuse) textures or bump mapping, or both (Best choice).
Water areas aren’t really flat, actually water can have a lot of details and sense of speed will be even greater.Autogen sure is another thing that may have huge effect. Be it trees or autogen of buildings.

Oh yes. Flying low is very dangerous over those terrains. Did not say that. Even the oceans have swells that shift and change elevation. The point here is that visual que’s do help with the perception of speed. Nothing is truly flat, so even the slightest elevation can be a reference to speed. It is all in how the mind perceives it. Creating this in a flight sim is demanding. The terrain would need to have those slight/subtle changes. Along with field of view, the perception of speed is enhanced. Since most mission will take place well above 20,000ft, the sensation of speed is lost as the terrain slowly creeps by. So the reference of speed is passe’ (that’s my best french, sorry). This would be for the low level junkies in BMS. Even I do some high speed, low level passes during free flights. There is a sense of speed here, but it could be better as everyone has previously suggested.

I think there is a lot of speed sensing over large areas of water, but I would contribute that to how the light reflects off the water. The ripples and small waves do create that greater sense of speed.

Indeed… Something like this:

I mean, it stands out. Is there a better model of Kunsan AB in any other flight sim?
Im wondering if the scenery is even as good in Google Earth using the “F-16 flight sim” built into GE… BMS’ version is pretty damn good.

Maybe…
But this isn’t really terrain mesh, terrain is in red and less detailed

So… are those… waves?!
What is the motto of Wild Weasel?;)

Haven’t checked this one yet as my XP11 / Linux civvy flying (Toliss A-319 and Zibo 737-800) ist mostly centered around the Aegean and Europe, but they’re generally quite good.
All the best,
Uwe

you mean the animated ripples and animated small waves…
I-Hawk… you little devil teaser…

Nothing to see, its clearly swamp gas.

Woah, can’t wait to see more.
Seriously, there should be special VIP subforum for members that registered before, say, December 2011
Like Area51 on Fighter Ops forum;)
